As Chairman of the New York State Assembly/Senate Puerto Rican and Hispanic Task Force,

I would like to personally invite you to join us during the Task Force’s 2013 Somos El Futuro, Spring Conference.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of this Bi-Annual Conference, which has two primary objectives.

First of all, it looks to spread awareness and recruit support to current and upcoming legislation that would improve issues pertaining to the Hispanic community. And secondly, the Somos El Futuro Organization uses the funds collected to sponsor Hispanic youths with: scholarships that encourage furthering their education, internships while in college, which help to promote retention and through apprenticeships, which introduce newly graduated adults into both the public, nonprofit and private sector.

With the vast, recent growth of the Hispanic population and, as seen in the recent Presidential elections, the undeniable impact that this community is making nationally; it is only fitting that this spring’s theme is “The Time is Now” to empower and nourish Hispanic youth minds with the tools necessary to make them successful. This year’s workshops are composed of experts in economy, health care, immigration, veterans’ affairs, policy development, project coordinators, housing, mental health, domestic violence, bilingual education, and LGBTQ issues. The panelists will provide insight and data, paving the way to much needed improvement.

If you have not been part of this great team in previous years The Time is Now to become part of the movement, which only objective is to help propel and flourish Hispanic youth’s potential to its maximum level.

Como presidente del Grupo de Trabajo Puertorriqueño e Hispano de la Asamblea/Senado del Estado de

Nueva York, deseo invitarlo personalmente a unirse a nosotros a la Conferencia de Primavera Somos El Futuro 2013.

Este año marca el aniversario 26to de esta Conferencia bianual, la cual tiene dos objetivos principales. Primero, busca esparcir conciencia y conseguir apoyo para legislación actual y futura que mejoraría los asuntos pertenecientes a la comunidad hispana. Y segundo, la Organización Somos El Futuro utiliza los fondos recogidos para auspiciar a jóvenes hispanos con: becas que los animan a fomentar su educación, internados mientras están en la universidad, lo cual ayuda a promover la retención a través del aprendizaje, que introducen a adultos recién graduados al sector público y al sector sin fines de lucro.

Con el vasto crecimiento de la población hispana y, como fue visto en las recientes elecciones presidenciales, el innegable impacto que está haciendo esta comunidad nacionalmente; solo cabe que el tema de esta primavera es “El Momento es Ahora” para empoderar y nutrir las mentes jóvenes hispanas con las herramientas necesarias para hacerlos exitosos. Los talleres de este año tienen expertos en economía, cuidado de la salud, inmigración, asuntos de veteranos, desarrollo de la política, coordinadores de proyectos, vivienda, salud mental, violencia doméstica, educación bilingüe y asuntos de LGBTQ. Los panelistas proveerán información y datos, allanando el camino a la tan necesitada mejora. Si usted no ha sido parte de este gran equipo en años pasados, únase a “El Momento es Ahora” para ser parte de este movimiento, el cual tienen como único objetivo el ayudar a impulsar y florecer el potencial de los jóvenes hispanos a su máximo nivel.
