The World Governing Body for Chinese martial arts, the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), has announced that they have officially created a World Wushu-KungFu Day for all Wushu and Kung Fu practitioners to celebrate. WWKD will be held annually on the first Saturday after Aug 8
th of each year,
(8-8-2018), with the first celebration being held this year on Saturday 11
th Aug 2018. The theme for this year’s WWKD was ‘Kung Fu in Everyday
Life’ and was open to anyone and everyone to participate in any way they saw fit. IWUF posted entries of the event around the world on their website www.iwuf.org with all submissions being sent to [email protected]. For more information about World Wushu-KungFu Day, please visit WWKD.
The New Zealand Kung-Fu Wushu Federation celebrated the launch of WWKD at club level in 2018, however will look to promote it as a recognised national event from 2019 onwards, which will be on Saturday 10
th August 2019.

Athletes selected into the National Wushu Development Squad receive special training under the NZKWF appointed Head Coach and are set on a path to then have an exciting opportunity for further selection to represent NZ in international events.
Aims of the National Wushu Development Squad:
1. Develop competitive wushu in NZ 2. Select emerging wushu athletes that have the potential to compete internationally 3. Improve the NZ wushu level to approach international level of competition 4. Unite wushu clubs in NZ by providing opportunities for their students to compete 5. Develop a stable national team for NZ

PREPRERSENTING THE INTERESTS OF THE NEW ZEALAND KUNG-FU WUSHU FEDERATION IN THE AUCKLAND REGION

The Auckland Wushu Association (AWA) was formally established by the
New Zealand Kung-Fu Wushu Federation Executive in April 2018.
The Inaugural Chairperson of the AWA is Peter Gordon, with Wei Zhao as Vice-Chairperson; David Wong, Diana Lau, Delia Wang Committee Members.
The AWA shares the same goals as the Federation and acts in its best interests in the promotion and development of Wushu in the Auckland region.
Associations are planned for Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin with an initial focus on bringing together all Chinese martials clubs in those regions.
Following that the focus will be to organise regional activities that are both ‘local’ in nature, but also aligned to the future direction of the Federation.
The establishment of the AWA will hopefully be a good benchmark and model for growing wushu activity in other regions in New Zealand.
The AWA got off to a great start and will report on its activities at the New Zealand Kung-Fu Wushu Federation’s AGM scheduled for later in the year.
