Newman Mission Statement “cor ad cor loquitur” The Newman Catholic Center includes the students, faculty and staff at the University of Massachusetts and extended community.
Empowered by the Spirit and inspired by .John Henry Newman’s motto: “Heart speaks to Heart” we explore, believe and reach out inclusively to make Jesus Christ present to all who share their journey with us.
Newman Vision Statement The Newman Catholic Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst provides a safe, comfortable, and caring community in which students can
grow spiritually, form new relationships, and deepen the rich traditions of their Catholic Faith. As Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman desired, we put the Catholic faith to work in conjunction with students’ secular education. We offer encouragement in worship and study, aid in the development of lead-ership skills, and facilitate in building a faith community that provide lasting memories. Through the sharing of meals and prayers that sustain the body, mind and spirit, we create a “home away from home” environment that helps to break social barriers while supporting each other in the growth and un-
derstanding of the faith. We act as models to those around us through our commitment to God, Church and Community.

St. Francis’ Environmental Corner Pray for the leaders
at the Paris Climate Conference The international climate conference is meeting in Paris from November 30 to December 11 and the leaders in this conference need our prayers. The conference continues work that began in 1992 with the adoption of a UN Framework Convention on Climate Change which is an international strategy to “stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at levels that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. “
Please pray that international leader must make bold, effective and practical commitments at the conference to keep the impacts of climate change within limits that human societies can manage and must make fair commitments at the conference toward an equitable distribution of the costs and consequences of climate change.
John the Baptist cried out and made ready for the Lord. Who will promote
the gospel in our community? (Luke 3: 1-6) If you think God is calling you, call Fr. Gary Dailey at 413-452-0816, or email at [email protected]. Website: www.myvocation.com Prayer of Intercession: For each of us, that we may prepare our hearts to receive Christ, we pray to the Lord…
Lessons & Carols Thursday, December 10th @ 7:00pm
Come reflect on the stories of Christmas time with the Newman Center Choir. Listen as nine scripture lessons recount the Fall, the promise of the Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission to preach the Good News. Each lesson is followed by a carol or other song that reflects on the lesson’s message and a brief prayer. A great way to slow down and get into the Christmas spirit!
