YGL Ganhuyag Ch. Hutagt, Vice Minister of Finance and President of Mongolian Students Association, is promoting

the NewMe Smoke Free Initiative in Mongolia, in order to prevent early age smoking among the youth and raise

the public awareness of cancer and other various diseases caused by smoking.

Two out of three people smoke in Mongolia, becoming the fth country in terms of tobacco users in the total

adult population aged between 15 - 64 in the West Pacic region.

42.9 percent of current and ex-smokers are inuenced by friends indicating, peer pressure and peer environ-

ment are key factors to begin smoking.

We had interviewed youth directly, to give opportunity to express their thoughts on smoking, peer pressure and

environment. The interviews were uploaded and shared through the Facebook page in order to reach out to

youth.

Mongolia launched the Law on Smoking Ban in Public Places, which became eective from January, 2011.

To raise the public awareness of the

Smoking Ban Law, Mongolian Students

Association, in cooperation with the

Ministry of Health and other relevant

agencies, launched a 4 month long

campaign among university students.

IN 2010, WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ORGANIZED SECOND CONSECUTIVE

GLOBAL DIGNITY DAY REACHING MORE THAN 150 TOP STUDENTS AND

100 KIDS OF 5 SCHOOLS. THIS YEAR, WE ARE UNITING UNDER THE MON-

GOLDIGNITY.ORG NGO, WHICH SHALL INCLUDE THE NEWME SMOKE

FREE INITIATIVE IN ITS SCOPE OF OPERATIONS.
