Carpenter FYI Employees across the Company are gearing up for Athens Operations’ big ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, January 27. Originally due to open in April, the facility’s reveal date was moved to this month thanks to dedicated teamwork of employees around the world to begin addressing our customers’ needs. “The ribbon cutting will mark the cornerstone of our new plant. We’re thrilled with the countless efforts of our team that went into making sure key equipment was up and running ahead of schedule,” says Dave Strobel, Senior Vice President – Global Operations. “Engineering, maintenance, production, and safety employees from many different locations really stepped up to the plate to make this possible. And it’s great that we can celebrate this early success and continue focusing on completing certifications and qualifications moving forward.” The facility, which will produce 4- to 18- inch ultra-premium alloy round bars, is the world’s most advanced specialty metals manufacturing facility. It will ultimately increase capacity and reduce our lead times. When paired with Company’s latest primary melt investments in Reading and Latrobe and other expansions world-wide, Carpenter is well-positioned to become the most respected company in specialty metals. “Our customers have asked us to be there with them as their demands grow, and Athens Operations gives us the ability to do that,” says Andy Ziolkowski, Senior Vice President – Commercial, SAO. He adds, “We’re prepared to meet demand in the biggest way possible. “We can now fully entertain new and expanding markets—especially the oil and gas industry and chemical processing industry. In fact, we already have orders coming in associated with our new capabilities.” Carpenter leadership, board members, employees, and dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony to celebrate the turnkey milestone. Employees will be able to celebrate during our Q2 FY14 employee webcast, scheduled for later that week. Photos and video from the event will also be made available to employees world-wide.
