Feb. 22. 2pm. O'Leary 222. What the Trump? UMass Lowell Political Science Faculty Reactionto the New Trump Era. The Political Science Department cordially invites you to engage in thediscussion about the new era of the Trump presidency. What does it mean? What is going tohappen? What does the new administration really believe? When something important orsurprising happens in our society, one of the core purposes of social science faculty is to discuss

and attempt to explain events. Seven Political Science faculty: Jeff Gerson, Joshua Dyck, JeniferWhitten-Woodring, Morgan Marietta, Angelica Duran-Martinez, Mona Kleinberg, and JohnCluverius will be on hand to give their reaction to the new era and discuss your questions andconcerns. We hope to have an open discussion of the meaning of the Trump presidency. Theevent is sponsored by the Political Science Department.

Feb. 23. 8 pm. Durgin Concert Hall. Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition Concert - DanielLutz, Conductor. The Wind Ensemble, comprised of some of the finest musicians at theUniversity, performs in concert on Feb. 23. The concert will feature the winning soloists of theAnnual Concerto Competition along with other works for wind band including Van der Roost'sSpartacus, inspired by the legendary Roman slave turned warrior. Multiple Dates. UMass Lowell Philosophy and Film: Monthly Film Series at the Luna Theater.The Philosophy Department is partnering with the Luna Theater in downtown Lowell to present theUMass Lowell Philosophy and Film series. Each film will be followed by a talk from a member fromthe Philosophy Department. The series is held on the last Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. andis free and open to the public. The Luna Theater is located on the fourth floor of Mill No. 5, 250Jackson St., Lowell.

Feb. 22. 4:30 pm. O'Leary 222. Solid State Mythologies Exhibit by Morehshin Allahyari Curatedby Professors Misha Rabinovich and Caitlin Foley. The impact of modern-day technology onpolitical, social, cultural and gender norms will be explored in Solid State Mythologies, man exhibitby Iranian-American artist Morehshin Allahyari. Works on display have been created using avariety of media, including 3-D printing, digital archiving, video and animation. The exhibit will be

open through Feb. 28. Allahyari will present a lecture to the public on Wed. Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m. inthe O'Leary Library, rm. 222 on South Campus. The reception will follow afterwards from 6-8 p.m.in the University Gallery in Mahoney Hall. Presented by the Department of Art and Design, theevents are free and open to the campus and community. The Department of World Languages and Cultures,the Kappa Omicron chapter of Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish Honor Society) and the Latin AmericanStudies Program are pleased to host Dr. Ronald Friis, Professor of Spanish at Furman University.Professor Friis specializes in Mexican and Chilean poetry of the twentieth century. He has authoreda book on poet José Emilio Pacheco, a Spanish conversation textbook, and articles on LatinAmerican poetry. Please join Professor of Philosophy John Kaag for areading and Q&A about his book, which is a New York Times Editor's Choice and was selected byNational Public Radio as Best Book of the Year. Come hear how a collection of rare and ancientbooks-a keystone of classical American philosophy-was discovered in the hinterlands of NewHampshire and was saved by members of the philosophy department at UMass Lowell. Thebooks are now housed at O'Leary library and constitute one of the most valuable troves ofAmerican intellectual history in the country. This is an event for book lovers and philosophers-andanyone who thinks that philosophy can still matter in the lives of flesh-and-blood people and theircommunities.
