PEPPERDINE TO HOST THE PARKENING INTERNATIONAL GUITAR COMPETITION IN MAY!The opportunity to see some of the best guitarists in the world comes to Pepperdine only once every three years. This year from May 29 through June 2, Pepperdine’s Center for the Arts will be host to the Parkening International Guitar Competition preceded by the Young Guitarist Competition. This is the most prestigious classical guitar competition in the world with cash prizes in excess of $65,000. It was first held at Pepperdine in 2006 on our Malibu campus where Christopher Parkening is the Distinguished Professor Music. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GRADUATING PEPPERDINE AMBASSADOR COUNCIL STUDENTS!Crest Associates and the Crest Board congratulate our graduating Pepperdine Ambassador Council (PAC) students! PAC members celebrated graduating seniors, as well as the incoming members at the annual end-of-year banquet at Malibu and Vine at the Malibu Golf Club. We appreciate our PAC students for their service and outstanding representation as some of the best and brightest of Pepperdine. We wish them an amazing future as they move on to the next phase of their lives, carrying forward Pepperdine’s mission of purpose, service, and leadership!

PEPPERDINE CELEBRATED EARTH DAY WITH COMMUNITY AT THE MALIBU CAMPUS!The Green Team is a group of dedicated members of the Pepperdine Community—students, faculty, and staff—working to better our world by educating campus and community on living a sustainable lifestyle. They partnered with the Center for Sustainability and the community for Pepperdine’s annual Earth Day Celebration in April. Some activities included e-waste recycling, a tour of Pepperdine’s organic community garden, free food, and multiple educational exhibits including Crown Disposal, Sodexo, Southern California Edison, the Department of Public Works Water Conservation, Tree People, and the Pepperdine Bookstore.

CREST IS INVITED TO THE OPENING RECEPTION OF ON LOCATION IN MALIBU 2012: PAINTINGS BY THE CALIFORNIA ART CLUB!Crest Associates are invited to meet the artists at the free opening reception of this exhibit on Saturday, May 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art. The exhibit consists of over 70 paintings of Malibu created by artist-members of the California Art Club. Most of the paintings are done in the spirit of “plein air.” This term, derived from the French for “open air,” refers to landscape paintings executed outdoors. The beautiful paintings capture Malibu’s picturesque scenery, from idyllic beaches to craggy canyons and mountains.
