============================================ Chapter Officers – the Brains of Our Association
If Chapters are thought of as the body of our Association, Chapter Officers are the
brain. Without the brain directing the various bodily functions, the body will die. Without
Officers providing direction for various Chapter activities, the Chapter must close. And as Chapters
close, our Association begins to die.
Being a Chapter Officer is not a difficult, time consuming, job with a lot of requirements. Yes,
there are some responsibilities associated with being an Officer. While they are important and must be
done, they do not take a tremendous amount of time to accomplish – in many cases, only a few minutes
when done on a monthly basis. How long does it take the Treasurer to make the bank deposit and balance
the check book each month? How long does it take the MEC to call and welcome any new Members to the
Chapter each month, then let the District MEC know contacts were made? There are nearly two years’
worth of Rider Education newsletter articles already written and waiting for the Educator to include in
the Chapter newsletter. How long does it take the Educator to fill out the N.6 Chapter activity report
and send it to the District Educator?

Becoming an officer may not be for everyone, but too often it is viewed as something to be
avoided at all costs. Every one of us has made some type of negative comment regarding Officer
Positions. Instead of offering thanks and congratulations for accepting the position, we make remarks of
condolences, sucker, or I'm sorry you had to do this. Did you get the engineer's hat when you were
railroaded into taking this job? I've been (insert position) and I ain't doing it again. What about
comments regarding how much time the position takes? I don't know how Bill was able to do this since he
still has a job. If you were a Member, especially a newer Member, if you overheard any of these, how
interested would you be in taking on an Officer role? Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies.
The reality is that Officers are supposed to have FUN too. That's not to say it’s always roses and
candy – there can be difficult situations that must be dealt with once in a while. But, those are the
exception, not the rule. Taking an active role in your Chapter will be a very rewarding experience. After
all, being an Officer really boils down to doing two things: 1) provide opportunities for the Members to
do what they enjoy most and 2) ensure the Chapter continues to exist into the future. While each of
those can contain several elements, if you are accomplishing each of those, you are fully benefiting not
only your Chapter, but also GWRRA as a whole.
To those who are currently Chapter Officers – THANK YOU! Jack Wagner Deputy Directors, D, H, K 405-359-7892 [email protected] from the March 2017 Insight
Newsletter http://gwrra.org/oconnect/newsletter/2017/InsightNewsletter0317.pdf?v=1

What’s so special about 40 to Phoenix?
40 to Phoenix is an event that started because Members wanted to come to visit Home Office. It
just so happens with the correct starting point you can ride Hwy 40 from the east coast almost to
Phoenix (well to Flagstaff and then down the I-17).
It was a Member, Greg McKinney from Arkansas, there is always a Member, who took this project
on and made it happen. He has passed the reins to Russ Schaffer, who has run the event for the past 5
years, who is having fun with it today. When they arrive in Phoenix, it will celebrate the 40th
Anniversary 40 to Phoenix Ride and this is year 8!
What is my lesson with this event? It wasn’t an Officer who made this happen, it was
Members wanting something to happen and then one of those Members stepping forward to
make it happen.
As Officers, we are always too hard on ourselves! We think the only person who can
do it is me, or someone on my team, another Officer. We are cheating ourselves out of some really good
ideas and events by closing our minds and our ranks with Insight this thinking. It’s time for a breakout!
It’s time we ask for help! When you read Wing World magazine that is coming out
any day now, you will see an article from me asking for help! We are a special organization
as we rely on and thrive from the good thinking and volunteering of Members who care!
When we don’t reach out and ask for help we are not showing value to those around
us who would help us out in a minute. For some of you, stretch out of your comfort zone
and reach out and accept the help around you, be bold and ask for help and then graciously receive that
help. They will need guidance and you are just the Officer to provide that guidance. If you are used to

asking for and accepting help, reach out again and freshen up that volunteer pool, Members love to be
asked and they love to help.
Enrich your life and that of a Member and show them that although you can do it, it will be even
better with them!

============================================ Harbor Freight Trailer Recall
Harbor Freight trailers are very popular amongst the motorcycle
crowd: A low-cost trailer frame from Harbor Freight, a Sears
car-top carrier, and you've got a cheap, light and reliable cargo
trailer to tow behind your Goldwing.
Some people use the trailers as a base to build campers to tow
behind their motorcycles - some just a tent on top of a board,
while others are elaborate with electricity and plumbing.
The NHTSA insisted Harbor Freight issue a recall for virtually all of their trailers a couple of years ago,
and Harbor Freight declined - resulting in almost a million dollars in fines. They have now issued that
recall.
If you own a Harbor Freight trailer, chances are you are affected by this recall. Read on to see if your
trailer is affected, and download the forms to order your replacement parts: Harbor Freight Trailer

============================================ Interesting News:
The brand-new 2018 Goldwing - again
Post by WingAdmin » Thu Jul 27, 2017 6:05 pm
This post has been floating around on a few sites. Is it true, or yet another claim of an "insider" who is
posting his wishes as fact? Only time will tell.
I have to say however, everything said here makes sense, except for there being a DCT 7 speed in the
Goldwing, and a manual 6 in the F6B. Unless they designed the block to handle both transmissions, I
can't see how they could shoehorn either transmission into the same space.
No other time in the History of the Goldwing, has Honda Corporation shown a new version of a new
Goldwing to the buying public.
To make this even more special, under 30 chosen few got to not only see the New Goldwing & F6B. But
they actually got invited to test ride the new bikes, at a secret location owned by Honda.
This was the only viewing & Test ride in the USA. (My friend was part of history)
The Consensus was overwhelming in the Positive.
Both bikes were rebuilt from the ground up.
Both bikes share the same engine.
The Flagship is a DCT 7 speed. (can be manually paddle shifted)
The F6B is a manual 6 speed transmission (Still a stripped down wing) ECM (now a central computer) has different modes of operation. (I won't say how many)
Suspension also has different modes. (I won't say how many)
Engine is a totally new power plant. (That info was kept confidential).
All new bodywork.
LED Lighting front to rear.
80 pounds lighter.
Without getting to in depth about each and every item Honda has created in this all new bike.
I will say that to describe the look and features is in a word. "Radical"
Through the years everyone has had a list of things they wanted on a new Goldwing.
Well Honda has been listening, and put together a bike that should please everyone.
Well almost everyone, after all Goldwing owners are never satisfied no matter what you give them!!!
(Sarcasm inserted)
I have a ton of information, But will not post it here for my own reasons. It’s Honda's new bike.
I'll let them have the Honor of telling everyone exactly what is on both new redesigned bikes.
I decided to share this Important news here on "The GL Forum" Because it's where I call home, and
where I have friends I wanted to share this information with.
I have asked the board Administrator to lock this thread.
I will not answer any questions period, or divulge any more about the new Goldwing than I already have.

Subject: Bike MS 2017
Hello again everyone! BikeMS is (nearly) here again and I know you would not want to miss
out on the opportunity to help out as a Motor Marshal on Oct 21st and 22nd so I wanted to get in
touch early enough to avoid calendar conflicts.
I know that last year several folks held back because of the new venue or the one way
route (or both). This year's event will still be going out of La Grange but the routes are loops this
time around so the flow should be very smooth for cyclist and Marshals alike. After last year's
event I can say that the venue in La Grange is very good and the routes are nice to ride. You can
check them out with the "Ride with GPS" links below.
As you all know the ability to keep the cyclists safe along the various routes is highly
dependent on our participation. In order to effectively provide this service we need 24 volunteers
for Saturday and 12 for Sunday. The only real requirement is a motorcycle (or scooter) but HAM
radio operators are also highly sought.
Compensation is limited to lunch, snacks and the occasional thank you from the cyclists
however, the miles driven are tax deductible if you are so inclined. Of course there is the benefit
of getting to hang out with really great people that happen to be motorcyclists.
In the interest of keeping the message brief (too late, I know) I would ask that you reply
to let me know if you are interested in joining the effort. For the time being a simple "Yes,
Saturday" "Yes, Sunday" or "Yes, both days" will suffice. Once I get your response I will send
more details as we get closer to the date.
Just like you, I hate getting spam messages, so, if you're no longer interested in
participating just reply to me with "Stop" and I will remove you from the list.
Thank you all for you past help and I look forward to a great turn out. If you have any
questions, comments or concerns feel free to email or call me individually at your convenience

polished the trike this year, HOW SAD. Oh well, enough crying in my beer. My day is
coming! Judy on the other hand may have issues for a while yet as her back, even with PT
is not responding very positively.
Fall is upon us and riding will be a bit more challenging due to the possibility of wet
roadways and leaves, PLEASE RIDE CAREFULLY!

A few words from Your ACD’s/Ride Educators… Every biker should carry a first aid kit - just to help prepare
for the unexpected. I carry this one in my own bike. You have
one in your bike already? Great - how about your car?
It comes in a waterproof, soft sided pouch that measures 8"
X 10", and can be folded and shaped for easy storage in your
trunk, panniers, even your fairing pouch. It has a velcro strip
along the top that allows you to stick it in place inside your
pannier if you like, to make sure it's accessible. The interior
packs are color coded for easy identification and it includes
the following contents: In an accident, you’ll NEVER have enough pads, Sanitary napkins are GREAT!
Item Quantity
Heavy Woven 1" x 3" Strips 10
Heavy Woven X-lg. Strips 2
Heavy Woven Knuckle Bandages 2
Heavy Woven Fingertip Bandages 2
Butterfly Closures 4
3" Gauze Pads 2
4" Gauze Pads 5
5" x 9" Abdominal Pad 2
1/2" Adhesive Tape 1
4" Sterile Gauze Bandage 1
Antiseptic Wipes 6
Antiseptic Towelettes 20
First Aid/Burn Cream Packet 2
Triple Antibiotic Ointment 2
Extra Strength Non-Aspirin painkiller 4
Motion Sickness Tablets 4
Sting Relief Wipes 1
Latex Exam Gloves 4
It’s a good idea to have riders in a group have multiples of each item listed above in their trunks.

Help! I Dropped My Bike!
User G-Wiz started riding motorcycles about 9 years ago. He
started out, as many do, with a Rebel 250, and gradually progressed
to his current mount, a 1984 GL1200, which he has been riding for
about a year now.
While turning a corner recently, he managed to stall the bike, and it
decided to take a nap. Fortunately, he was able to make an
expeditious dismount, and landed on his feet. Some passers-by
helped him get the bike back up on its wheels.
Despite riding for nine years, he admits to feeling like a newbie on his GL1200, and has asked for help
from the GoldwingDocs users. He really wants to do a ride in September, but at this point is a little
unsure of himself, and whether or not he should try it.
Of course, our users jumped at the chance to help a fellow rider, and what ensued was a huge outpouring
of valuable advice based on many years of Goldwing riding. It's my hope that G-Wiz will take some of the
advice and improve his riding confidence.
If you're a little unsure on your bike, or could simply use any help you could get when it comes to
maneuvering your big bike around - particularly at slow speeds - you owe it to yourself to read this
topic: Dropped My Bike

Hello everyone,
Our annual picnic is coming up on the 7th of Oct which is just a little over a month
away. I'll have a sign-up sheet for salads and desserts for attendees at the next
meeting. The Chapter will again provide the fried chicken so we will need a head
count by meeting time also. Please plan on coming, it's always a fun time to enjoy
each other's company play some games and "EAT!" Among other games, Barb
Schleicher came up with a terrific idea of each of us bringing a baby picture to post up
on a board and we'll all try and guess who's who! What do you think? So please reserve the 7th of October for our
Annual Picnic at Meek's Park, 12:00 PM.
