NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD

CHAIR OF THE BOARD The Dallas area chapters, along with the Southern Region, rolled out the “blue” carpet for Nation-
al Executive Board members and visiting sorors in January. The NEB met at the Hilton Lincoln
Centre. Beginning on Thursday, January 6, the board traveled to “The Bridge at Fair Park”, an
adult daycare center as part of the kickoff to a year of service. Board training was held later that
afternoon as well as committee meetings.
Over 200 sorors assembled for the opening of the board meeting on Friday morning, January 6.
Greetings were brought by Chrischeryl McDaniel (Basileus, Kappa Zeta); Antoinette Carey-
Spring (Basileus, Chi Upsilon); Rhetta Washington McCoy (West Texas State Director); Kay
Jones Rosebure (Southern Region Director); Jennifer Jones (International President, NPHC);
and Dr. Mary Breaux Wright (International Grand Basileus). Response was given by Leigh-Ann
Williams (3rd Anti-Basileus). On Saturday, in commemoration of the Year of the Amicae and the
Year of Youth, greetings were extended by Amica Tarnisha Hill (Chaplain, Dallas Amicae Auxilia-
ry) and three inspiring Dallas Kappa Zeta youth—Pearlette Londyn Thomas, Amicette Kendall
Spriggins and Archonette Angel Moore.
A special thanks to the sorors who assisted in making the meeting successful, including the Na-
tional Meeting Planner Mercedes Alexander; the Protocol Director Sheryl Collins; the Amenities
Director Dana Moore; and the myriad of sorors from West Texas Chapters who volunteered to be
escorts, doorkeepers, timekeepers and hostesses. A special thanks to all the DFW Zeta chap-
ters who provided snacks to the board members and to Carmalie Williams Sims for serving as
our musician during the Saturday honorary members’ activities. Thanks to Shaneesa Ashford for
doing an ex-
cellent job
with our tech-
nology.

1. Approved the National Executive Board minutes for August 9, 2016, and September 8, 2016.
2. Grand’s report was accepted with commendations.
3. Approved the Zeta Organizational Leadership Program’s recommendation to add “Renewal” as an official com-ponent to ZOL. The recommendation was approved with the request to consider a different name for the com-ponent.
4. Approved the Auditor’s report.
5. Approved the 2017 Zeta Organizational Leadership Program’s Budget.
6. Approved the 2017-2018 Operational and Programmatic Budget.
7. Approved plans for implementation of the Social Action Committee.
8. Tabled the attendance policy for board members for further review.
9. Tabled the report on the National Campaign Reform to the next NEB meeting.

YEAR OF SERVICE KICKOFF AT THE NATIONAL
EXECUTIVE BOARD
The Year of Service Kickoff started at the NEB on January
7 with a presentation to the Dallas chapter’s Elder Care
Initiative partner, The Bridge at Fair Park. The Bridge was
founded and is operated by Ms. Paula Watkins, a retired
educator from the Dallas Independent School District. In
its 10th year, The Bridge is the daytime home to approxi-
mately 35 adults. residents. Over 3000 items and $6000
in donations were presented at the board meeting to the

HISTORICAL TIME IN ZETA: HONORARY MEMBERS INDUCTED AT A BOARD MEETING
Three of the four honorary members, approved at Boule 2016,were inducted into our
great sorority on Saturday, January 7. This was the first time honorary members have
been inducted at a National Executive Board. Kudos to the National Director and Co-
Director of Honorary Members, Sorors Natalie Brannon and Shunte Fuller, for a job
well done!

NATIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD VISITS “THE BRIDGE
AT FAIR PARK” ELDER CARE ADULT CENTER
Several members of the NEB toured the local adult daycare center that
was the recipient of the generosity of board members and visiting
sorors. The center offers services to adult experiencing dementia or
other common chronic diseases such as chronic hypertension, physical
disability, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental illness or a developmental disability. Kicking off the Year of Service!
NATIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD RECEIVES TRAINING ON THE NEW RISK
MANAGEMENT POLICY
Members of the Board, State Directors and ZOL Steering Committee Members attended the offi-
cial Risk Management Training, on Thursday evening, prior to the start of the board meeting on
Friday. Kudos to Soror Gina Merritt Epps, Esq., National Director of Risk Management, for an
excellent session.
