Showers of Blessing

“I will make them and the places all

around My hill a blessing; and I will

cause showers to come down in their

season; there shall be showers of

blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26 NKJV

As April opens before us and we

long for showers to come, I can say with

confidence, I do not know what the

weather holds but I do know who holds

the weather, and cares for his people in

times of need. What a contrast is the

verse above from Hosea 8:11 which

says,

Behold, the days are coming,”

says the Lord GOD,

“That I will send a famine on the land,

Not a famine of bread,

Nor a thirst for water,

But of hearing the words of the LORD.

God has clearly promised,

“And you will seek Me and find Me,

AN MISSION OPPORTUNITY TO HELP! Our names are Zach Van Dyke and Zach Pieper, and we are current members of the Zion and have been raised here our whole lives. We are both studying health professions at Chadron State College. While away at school, we were presented with an opportunity to go on a mission’s trip, and we felt led to do so. As a result, we will be traveling to Falmouth, Jamaica. We will be leaving May 10th and returning May 19th. This is a medical mission’s trip; while there we will be focusing on sharing the gospel and working in the medical and dental clinics. There are also a number of construction projects and orphanages that we will visit and lend a helping hand. This trip does not fall under the umbrella of any mission’s organization, and is entirely put on and funded by the people that are going. Because of this, we are each in charge of our own individual fund rais-ing. We would like to ask for your support in this en-deavor, both through prayer and financially, if you are able. Please pray with us that we will dedicate our en-ergy to serving the physical and spiritual needs of the families of Jamaica. If the Lord is leading you to help financially, your gift can be made to Zion Missions and sent/given to Linda Peterson or Barb Kautz. We are extremely excited for this opportunity and anything you can give through prayer or otherwise is greatly ap-preciated. Thank you and may God bless you richly!

SINGSPIRATON

In both services on Mother’s Day, May 12th, we

will be doing a SINGSPIRATON and we are looking

for volunteers! You can play an instrument, do a solo

or sing as a group. Join in this celebration of music

and sign up at the Welcome Center.

Call the church office if you have questions

at 632-8125 or see Pastor Garry.

Wondering about how to become a member of Zion Evangelical

Church? We would love to have your join our fellowship of believers. If interested, call the church office at 632-8125

or talk to Pastor Garry.

~ AWANA NEWS ~

Congratulations to our February Clubbers of the Month:

Sparks – Ashtyn Silverman & Brayden Hale; T&T – Hope Scha-

naman & Cameron Meyer and Trek – Austin Rhamy. Way to go,

Clubbers! There are only four regular club nights left!!!

We are getting “down to the wire” on clubbers completing 30

sections in their handbooks in order to be presented with

their invitation to the Pizza Reward Party on April 21st.

Congratulations to Danara Abshire, Maddux Janecek, Tristan

Deem, Tristen Brannan, Claire Powell, Delaney Haun, Isaac

Ashford and Molly Stricker! Great job, Clubbers!!!

Congratulations to Danara Abshire for bringing two guests to

club and receiving 30 shares!!!

We had a wonderful time with our special

guests – our grandparents - the last club

meeting in February for Grandparent’s Day.

My cousin, Vern Benzel, was the guest

speaker and he shared with us about the

very serious car accident that he was in-

volved in about 15 years ago. The young lady

that hit him had just graduated from high

school a few days prior, had her whole fu-

ture ahead of her and due to being a dis-

tracted driver, she died in the accident and

was laid to rest a few days later. This led to sharing the message of salvation - no one is guaranteed

tomorrow! As I remind the grandparents every year, their godly example and prayers for their grand-

children are a treasure! We enjoyed a great evening of fellowship and a variety

of freezer pies.

March Madness: We started out our celebration of mad-

ness/craziness on the 3rd by wearing our crazy socks. We

had some fun and crazy socks and Josie’s mom found a new

way to display her crazy socks! (It didn’t last long,

though.) Like I told the clubbers, some of them wear

“crazy socks” as a part of their normal, daily routine so it

probably wasn’t a real special/different club time for

them.

On the 10th, we had Inside/Out night. Last year, we had

Backwards Night so I thought that we’d try inside/out this

year. I have to say that in my opinion, wearing your clothes inside out is MUCH

(Continued on page 5)

EASIER and MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE than backwards!!! We had a

dad and son duo that went “all out”. Can you guess who they are? There

was also a leader that didn’t read the sentence in the

flyer about keeping it appropriate as I didn’t want to

see anyone’s underwear! Yes, Zion Church, it is one of

our newly elected deacons in his inside-out boxers –

HAHAHA!!!

The 17th – St. Patrick’s Day – we were in our green!!! This was by

far our most highly participated of the March Madness activities!!!

At check-in, the clubbers had three containers to “take one” out

of – a green basketball necklace, a green chocolate candy coin and

a green noisemaker . . . yes, I said, “noisemaker”. My Staff was wondering whether I

was in my “right mind” to do this and before the whistle was blown to start Opening

Ceremony, I had several of them threatening to resign! As you can see by the pic-

tures I included, there was a headband that was a favored item of the Trek group to

take pictures in – even their “fearless” leader! Looking good, Randy!!!

We are in full swing with AWANA Games practices and as of this

writing, we are less than a week away from AWANA Games competition at WNCC

on March 23rd. We have had some changes in the games that the clubbers compete

in as well as the T&T boys and girls are combined on a team rather than separate

this year. We would love to have a huge cheering section from Zion. The Sparks

compete at 1:00 and T&T at 3:00. Hope to see you there!!!

The rest of March we do not have club due to Palm Sunday on

the 24th and Easter on the 31st. The AWANA Staff will not be

“off”, though, as we will be serving our annual Easter Break-

fast to the Zion Congregation between the two church ser-

vices. Looking forward to visiting with and serving all of you!

As we are on the verge of closing out our 30th year of AWANA at Zion, my prayer

is that we will not resign from making noise when it comes to declaring the Good

News of the Gospel – for the NEXT 30 years (or until Christ returns!) You can be

sure that I will

continue to remind you that . . .

GOD IS IN CONTROL!!!

Zion AWANA Commander

LADIES GUILD:

Zion ladies met March 4th with 16 la-dies present. Prayer was given by Linda Peter-sen and two hymns were sung. The Secretary and Treasurer’s report was given and ap-proved. In old business, final plans for the Soup Supper were discussed. Angel Food cakes will be made the day before the supper and sell for $7.50. We will also sell noodles, butterballs and rye bread during the supper. The Guild also approved buying 2 new noodle machines. In other business, Elaine gave an update on the new faucet for the big kitchen sink. The Guild voted to accept the bid that Erik got for us. Elaine will get with Eric to see when it can be installed. Our Mother’s Day Tea will be May 6. We will have an update at our April meeting. There was no new business. Our devotion was given by Linda; it was the Easter Story using a Easter tree and put-ting ornaments on it that go with the different events leading up to Easter. Our hosts for the evening were Barb Steffensen, Helen Maier and Kathy Jay and our next meeting will be April 1.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

YOUTH - The only way to describe the month of March for our youth programs is

busy. In addition to all of our normal weekly

activities, every Saturday in March had ac-

tivities planned. We started the month with

our ski trip on March 2. Our group of 13 ski-ers enjoyed good snow, beautiful weather,

and clear roads. It would be hard to imag-

ine how we could have had a better day for

this trip. The next Saturday several of our

youth group members volunteered to help

out with the soup dinner hosted by the

Ladies Guild. The ladies made the night a great success, and I was proud of how

hard the students who came to help

worked. On Saturday, March 16, my Sun-

day school class got together to enjoy a fun day together. We began with a hike

out in the beautiful hills south of Ger-

ing. We then had dinner together before

ending the day with a movie that eve-ning. The following Saturday our Awana

Club participated in the Awana Games at

WNCC. On the last weekend of the month

our students were busy with Easter week activities. Students participated in the

Easter Egg Hunt as well as preparations

for Easter breakfast. We also took advan-

tage of a long weekend off of school to

get outside and enjoy a hike during that weekend. As busy as March was, I was

surprised not to have been worn out by

the end of it, but all of the activities pre-

sented important opportunities to spend valuable time with students with whom I

love to spend time. I trust the relation-

ships built doing things together will in-

crease the impact of the lessons I teach on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thurs-

days. Now that March is over, we have

less than two months of the current

school year. Please pray that I can take

full advantage of the remaining opportuni-ties to teach and encourage the students

to trust God with more and more of their

decisions.

Andy
