The Panther’s Pause, Jr. Issue #2 News in the Park Holiday Party 2012 By: Staff Writer On Friday, December 7th, the Middle School Holiday Party was the place to be. 86 kids spent the night dancing, playing basketball, eating yummy snacks, and spending time with friends. The dance floor was a jumble of flailing arms, kicking feet, and sounds of pleasant laughter. The playlist was a fantastic mix of modern songs and holiday classics. Eighth grade president, Tori Maslov says, “The Holiday party was so successful with the amazing music and food! I was surprised by how many people actually came! We definitely had a lot of fun.” Naturally, most of the guys spent the majority of the night playing basketball, but at least they had a good time. Stay tuned for details about the next Class Officer event: Movie Night! (Sorry! No student pictures are available online at this time. Please request a hard copy of this issue to see the images. Thanks!) Various 7th and 8th grade students participate in some of the activities offered at the Holiday Party. The Saddest Flash Dancer? By: Staff Writer On December 21st at the Pep Rally, the whole school got to feast their eyes on a surprise Flash Mob, a somewhat discombobulated dance from the awkward seniors and wannabe Mr. Andersons. Whether you were there to witness the spectacle, or saw some shakycam videos online, you probably thought it was great, but what you may not realize is that there was drama during the dance. We did some investigating to find out what happened to Mr. Grubman during the faster encore dance. Everything was happy and dandy during the first runthrough, but the second time was a mess for the lonely Mr. Grubman. When it was time to grab your partner and twirl them around, Mr. Grubman was left all alone. Now all of the hard work is really starting to pay off. The 2012 election had many record breaking wins for women. First of all, there are 20 women in the senate now. That is more than there have ever been before! This means that women will have a bigger and louder voice in our government. “Following two years of unprecedented legislative attacks on women's reproductive rights, the 2012 election will go down in history as a groundbreaking, glassceilingsmashing milestone for women,” says the Huffington Post. Records  Blasted  By  Women  Throughout  Congress

By:  Staff  Writer

Throughout  our  country’s  history  women  have  always  had  to  fight.  Now  all  ofthe  hard  work  is  really  starting  to  pay  off.  The  2012  election  had  many  recordbreaking  wins  for  women.  First  of  all,  there  are  20  women  in  the  senate  now.  Thatis  more  than  there  have  ever  been  before!  This  means  that  women  will  have  abigger  and  louder  voice  in  our  government.  “Following  two  years  of  unprecedentedlegislative  attacks  on  women's  reproductive  rights,  the  2012  election  will  go  downin  history  as  a  groundbreaking,  glass-ceiling-smashing  milestone  for  women,”  says

Hurricane  SandyBy:  Staff  Writer          A  nagging  issue  that  came  along  withHurricane  Sandy  is  all  of  the  days  wespent  sitting  in  our  cold,  silent  houseswallowing  in  our  own  sadness.  The  truthis,  those  were  all  days  we  should  havebeen  daydreaming  in  math  and  doodlingin  English.          Teachers  need  to  teach  their  studentsfor  a  certain  number  of  days,  whichmeans  we  have  to  make  these  days  upfrom  time  off.  But  will  these  mysteriousdays  be  coming  from  the  winter,  spring,or  summer  break?  At  least  at  this  pointwe  have  made  up  2  of  the  days  by  goingto  school  during  the  teacher  conventions, and  we  will  make  up  another  since  wenow  have  a  half  day  on  Martin  LutherKing  Jr.  Day  this  month.          So  how  will  we  make  up  the  remainingdays?  Will  it  be  three  days  looking  outupon  a  sunny  sky,  dreaming  about  thecrystal  blue  waves?  Or  will  it  be  duringsnowy  afternoons,  when  you  can  almostfeel  the  snowflakes,  and  taste  hotchocolate?          I  interviewed  Mr.  Capuano  to  sort  outthis  Sandy  crisis.  Our  April  Break  will  becut  short  by  three  days!  So  unfortunatelyfor  us  it  will  be  three  days  in  schoollooking  out  at  spotless  April  mornings, thinking  of  what  could  have  been.

Cafeteria  AnnouncementBy:  Staff  Writer

An  8th  Grader  washes    his  face  in  the  schoolwater  fountain  before  English  class.

Face  Steaming  -  Facial  steaming  canend  up  making  your  skin  clearer.  Thishappens  because  the  moisture  softensthe  surface  layer  of  dead  skin  cells  calledthe  stratum  corneum.  This  process  helpsto  free  any  dead  cells,  dirt,  bacteria  orother  trapped  matter  that  could  becausing  breakouts,  and  it  can  allow  yourskin  to  better  absorb  any  other  productsyou  might  use  after  the  steaming.

Castor  Oil  -  Use  this  oil  for  one  day  andit  will  make  a  huge  improvement  in  yourskin  by  making  it  look  brighter  and  morehydrated,  while  making  your  pimples  lookless  red.  Castor  oil  does  this  because  thericinoleic  acid  in  it  works  to  inhibit  manyviruses  and  bacteria,  and  as  castor  oil  isable  to  penetrate  skin  tissue  deeply,  thismakes  it  an  effective  treatment  for  acne.

To  treat  acne,  dab  a  hot  damp  washclothall  over  your  face  in  the  evening  beforeyou  go  to  bed.  The  heat  will  gently  openthe  pores  on  your  face.  After  this, massage  a  little  castor  oil  gently  into  theskin.  Leave  the  oil  on  overnight.  Repeatthis  daily  for  1  to  2  weeks  to  see  results.

pick  up.  These  women  are  not  yourmothers  and  should  not  have  to  clean  upyour  messes.  That  is  why  this  rule  hasbeen  put  in  place.  The  staff  needs  tonarrow  down  who  is  leaving  all  this  trashin  the  lunchroom.  Although  it  is  upsettingthat  we  can’t  sit  with  our  friends  and  have

the  free  time  we  were  promised  in  thebeginning  of  the  year,  it  is  as  equally  asimportant  that  the  7th  grade  classunderstands  the  respect  we  should  havefor  our  school  and  our  staff.

Twilight  Fan  ReviewBy:  Staff  Writer          The  Twilight  series  has  done  it  again. The  first  week  out,  the  movie  sold  somany  tickets.  Personally,  I  thought  themovie  was  amazing.  I  haven't  read  thebooks  but  the  movie  was  so  dramatic, action  packed,  and  more.    It  was  sointense  and  the  twist  ending  wasamazing,  I  would  never  have  expected  it.Bella  (Kristen  Stewart)  and  Edward's(Robert  Pattison)  child,  Renesmee,  is  indanger.  The  vampire  council  think  theirchild  is  a  danger  to  the  human  race,  sothe  council  decides  to  get  their  child  andkill  her  before  she  can  do  any  damage.          The  movie  was  truly  amazing  and  Irecommend  that  everyone  should  seethis  thriller.  Some  of  the  fans  may  bedisappointed  with  the  ending,  but  it’s  anice  change  if  you  were  unhappy  with  thenovel’s  conclusion.  Maybe  this  isn't  theend  of  Twilight.  Be  sure  to  watchBreaking  Dawn  Part  2  when  it  arrives  onDVD  soon!

Beulah  died  in  the  Appalachians  whileCraig  died  at  sea.  Everyone  was  much

happier  with  Craig's  death.  Why?

Congresswomen

(continued  from  page  1)

The  voice  is  not  just  increased  becauseof  senate  though.  There  are  also  a  recordnumber  of  women  in  the  House  ofRepresentative.  At  least  77  women  arenow  representatives  in  the  house  andthe  previous  record  was  73,  so  this  reallyis  a  huge  push  for  equal  voices  for  bothgenders.

As  well  as  the  number  of  women  inCongress  breaking  records,  there  werealso  some  record-breaking  individuals.According  to  the  Huffington  Post“[Tammy]  Baldwin  is  the  first  openly  gaySenator-elect,  and[Mazie]  Hirono  is  the  firstAsian-American  woman  in  the  Senate.”As  well  as  these  women  in  the  Senate, there  are  record  busting  women  in  theHouse,  too.  Tulsi  Gabbard  is  the  firstperson  of  Hindu  faith  in  theHouse  and  she  is  also  the  first  womanunder  40  years  old  and  the  first  femalewho  has  combat  experience.

Clearly,  the  wall  of  white  men  dominatingthe  congress  will  finally  be  broken.  Thisis  a  huge  step  in  the  right  direction  forwomen  and  for  equal  voices  throughoutthe  government.

1.  Odor  TesterThis  one  is  pretty  odd,  but  some  chemisthas  to  make  sure  that  all  of  thosedeodorants  and  anti-perspirants  areoperating  properly  to  keep  their  users  freeof  funk.

2.  Citrus  Fruit  DyerHave  you  ever  passed  by  the  lemons  atthe  supermarket  and  thought  to  yourself,“Man,  that's  some  good  looking  citrus!”?Well  it  might  be  because  there  arecommercial  farmers  out  there  who  dyethe  fruit  a  more  vibrant  color  to  hide  theripeness  of  the  fruit.

3.  Fortune  Cookie  WriterYes,  we've  all  wondered  who  the  heckwrites  these  fortunes  in  English.Finishing  a  take-out  Chinese  meal  isn'tonly  full  of  MSG,  but  those  delightfullywitty  pieces  of  advice  that  people  are  soquick  to  heed.

4.  Furniture  TesterEver  been  sitting  in  your  favorite  chair  orsofa  and  say  to  yourself,  “Wow  I  wish  Icould  do  this  for  a  living.”?  Well  somereally  lucky  human  being  actually  testsout  furniture  for  companies  like  La-Z-Boy.

5.  Dog  Food  TesterWatch  out  guys,  this  gal  is  going  to  havesome  great  breath  in  store  for  you.  Justlike  any  other  meals,  dog  food  needs  tobe  inspected  too.  I  suppose  they  can'tuse  dogs  to  test  the  food  so  thisprofession  requires  a  taste  testing  ofsuch  a  delicious  cuisine.

6.  Garbage  Bin  ArchivistA  step  up  from  dumpster  diving,  somepeople  make  money  off  scouring  filesand  archives  retrieved  from  filthy  garbagebins  for  legal  reasons.

7.  Fake  Review  WriterUnethical?  Yup.  But  a  weird  job  is  still  aweird  job,  and  this  one  involvesprofessionally  writing  fake  businessreviews  –  positive  and  negative  alike  –for  consumer-driven  sites  like  Yelp,Citysearch,  and  Urbanspoon  in  order  toartificially  bolster  ratings  and  verballyslam  the  competition.

8.  Hoof  TrimmerCows  and  horses  need  their  hoovestrimmed  for  their  own  safety  and  comfort–  really  not  much  different  than  a  dog  orcat  owner  clipping  the  nails  of  their  pets.

Poor  Mr.  Grubman

(continued  from  page  1)

Originally,  it  was  planned  that  Mr.Grubman’s  partner  would  be  Mrs.Kuperus,  but  all  heck  broke  loose  whenshe  wasn’t  even  in  the  second  dance!          So  where  exactly  was  Mrs.  Kuperus? We  asked  her.  What  she  told  usunleashed  behind-the-scenes  drama:

Kuperus:“We  didn’t  know  that  we  weregoing  to  do  that  two  times,  so  I  had  to  beat  5  different  places  at  one  time.”

A  likely  story.  Was  she  willing  toapologize  for  leaving  Mr.  Grubman  on  thedance  floor  all  alone?

Kuperus:  “Well,  alright.  It’s  notnecessarily  a  public  apology  because  itwasn’t  my  fault.  Really  it  was  all  Mr.Anderson’s  fault.  *points  fingers  at  Mr.Anderson*  He  never  told  us  we  had  todance  twice.”

Anderson:  “It  wouldn’t  have  been  asmuch  fun  if  the  faster  version  wasplanned.  Mr.  Grubman  did  fine.  It’s  notlike  he  would  get  embarrassed.”

These  shocking  accusations  drove  meright  to  the  source  himself:

Interviewer:  “Mr.  Grubman,  how  did  youfeel  in  that  moment,  all  alone  on  thedance  floor?”

Grubman:  “At  first  I  was  confused,  and  Ididn’t  know  what  to  do.  Either  I  shouldhave  acted  embarrassed  or  acted  like  itwas  a  joke.  So  I  sort  of  did  both.”

Despite  Mr.  G’s  great  acting  skills,  we  allknow  he  was  really  filled  with  pain  on  thedance  floor.  But  whose  fault  was  thishistorical  mistake?  The  world  may  neverknow.  But  this  reporter’s  dibs  are  on  Mr.Anderson.

Mrs.  Kuperus  in  one  place  at  one  time.  Or  is  she?
