facilitate in the reading and inquiry –based learning.
The workshop further strengthened the skills of PYP facilitators to develop
students’ aptitude towards Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Viewing and

Service and Action Activity
MYP students celebrated "World disability day" on 3rd Dec
2017 as a part of Service and Action in collaboration with
'Nandavanam', a centre dedicated for the welfare of children
with disabilities, situated in Neelankarai, ECR.
Students planted medicinal trees on the streets to promote clean
air, carbon sequestration, temperature control and flood control.
After that student participated in a creative Art and Craft activity
along with the children from Nandavanam centre. Students also
culminated the programme with songs to entertain the children
and made them happy.
World Disability Day
Entrepreneur Day
November is designated as National Entrepreneurship Month (NEM), students of
Gateway International IBPYP and IBMYP students were entrepreneurs on Nov
9th, 2017. It was a time to celebrate the initiative of the students who had the
courage to take smart risks in trading, enriching and innovating their lives with
the results of their efforts: Buddy Books, Stationery, Food, Nail Art Painting,
Novels, Hand-made Books, Video games, Tattooing, Games, Art work, etc.
The enthusiasm, cheer and delight that the students experienced selling their
products, as well as hosting, organizing and bargaining, developed the sense of
leadership, team spirit, innovation and taught the values of entrepreneurship.
Students donated one-fourth of their profit for charity – Children’s Welfare
Centre, Karapakkam, Chennai.
Parents also played an active part encouraging the student entrepreneurs by
supporting the trade and the spirit of service to the society. The parents and
students of GIS PYP, MYP are now eagerly waiting for the next year to
implement new ideas and strategies to increase their sales and collect more money
to contribute to the society at large.
A Trip to Orphanage –Children’s Welfare Centre
The much-awaited day had arrived when the students of PYP3-MYP 5 were eager
to visit and give their offerings to an orphanage at
Perungudi on 18th December 2017.
Our students met the little angels and were awestruck
for their eyes each told a story. A story of loss and
despair, each set of eyes reflected a haunted little soul
beneath. The students entertained the little ones with
mime, songs and Santa cheered the tiny tots.
The students will never, ever forget these children
because their actions were etched in their hearts. The
way they eagerly reached out to touch with their
hands while receiving the sweets and cakes, craving
affection, the gratitude they felt for small things that
the students would normally take for granted.
A soft mattress to sleep on at night, a pencil box with
a pencil, eraser & a sharpener, a pocket dictionary
and a pouch with a pen for children were the things
bought with the contribution collected from
Entrepreneur’s Day and those given by the students,
teachers and administrators.
It was indeed a wonderful and lovely experience.
Christmas Celebration
Christmas celebration at GIS IBPYP and IBMYP connotated the significant elements
of Christmas. On 20th December 2017 students, teachers, principal and nonteaching
staff enjoyed the three-hours of non-stop entertainment performed by students.
The programme started with an invocation to the Lord by MYP 1. Sahasra of PYP 2
welcomed everyone with great determination and confidence.
"What is evergreen becomes a sign of undying life and remains as an image of Christ
the supreme gift of God to humanity (Genesis 2:9)”: K1-3 incognito as Christmas
trees symbolised and kindled the audience to tap their feet. Followed with the
illuminated, masked red nosed PYP 4 and 5 sang 'Rudolph the reindeer...'
Carol of Bells was tuned on the key board by Eshana of MYP 2. Nivedha and Ronicaa
of MYP 5 mesmerised with the classic English carol 'First Noel'.
"Love thy neighbour as you love yourself" - the miming theme 'caring' an important
attribute to reflect in our lives, to take away for this Christmas. Ronicaa of MYP 5
played the guitar and sang the slow number 'Blue Christmas', signifying the
importance of celebrating Christmas with kith and kin.
"Today in Bethlehem a Saviour has been born..." - Nativity by PYP & MYP revealed
the story of God's own son Jesus.
Adding on to the fervour towards the end of the programme the audience forgot to
drop their jaws when they watched PYP3 Noel Thaliyan debut performance on the
membranophones without a wink in the eye.
The grand finale was a congregation of the whole school waving and wishing ‘Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year’ to one and all.
The programme ended with heartfelt thanks by Hanaan of MYP1.
The active participation by all the students from K1 – MYP5 should be applauded
immensely as each group was eagerly waiting their turn.
HAPPY NEWYEAR 2018!
Christmas Celebration
Gateway Family Celebration
The moonlit Padur Gateway campus was filled with awe and anxiety when the
Gateway International group of Schools: Brotherhood Matriculation and Hr.
Sec. School, CBSE (Neelankari & Padur), The Complete School, IBPYP
IBMYP World School, Tuition centres, Creative School, and other institutions
created for the benefit of the underprivileged, congregated to celebrate
Christmas on 21st December.
The students from School of Transformation hosted
the programme. Tutors from all the Gateway family
institutions enthusiastically exhibited their talents
with choir, dance and skit.
Open Mindedness is the apt word for the occasion as
the audience included not only principals, facilitators
and admin staff, but the house-keeping staffs,
drivers, gardeners, security personal and all those
who worked for the upliftment of the Gateway
community. Also, the performances were not only in
English but from different national languages like
Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam. Santa’s from
across the globe was a highlight as they wished
everyone for the season in their native languages.
Our PYP & MYP Teachers presented a humorous
skit on the importance and belief in prayers that
could change anything and everything. They also
sang a song that depicted the birth of Christ and
wished everyone Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The most special moment was when our Chairman Father Anton Cruz
introduced the powerful word 'Complete' as the theme for the year 2018. His
encouraging and inspiring speech on how to become and think about being
'Complete' made the audience conscious and courageous to move forward for a
creative and prosperous year, and to fulfil the dreams of becoming 'Complete'.
The programme became a memorable and glorious moment for the Gateway
family when they were gifted with dresses, cakes and sumptuous food.
The Organic Garden
Healthy, nutrient-rich soil holds carbon dioxide and keeps it
out of the atmosphere, where it contributes to the greenhouse
effect and a warming planet— a warming planet that's
causing more severe storms, weird swings in temperature,
more severe allergies, an increase in the spread of insect-
borne diseases, and all manners of other health and
environmental problems. Chennai has seen drought, flood,
heavy rains, and winds of epic proportion in the past two
years. The city is witnessing all symptoms of climate change.
Research centre predicts that Chennai's climate will become
more unpredictable and aggressive over the coming years
because of global warming.
The above is brief description, a short summary by MYP
students who planned to form an organic garden in the school
campus to save the environment from global warming, as
well as its positive impact on the environment.
Proceeding further, students tilled the land at the backyard of
our campus with the help of GIS gardeners, sowed different
types of seeds like mustard, lady finger, tomato etc and
watered it, with the hope of producing successful organic
products.

We would like to share the fantastic news of getting accredited as IB
PYP World School.
This is quite a breakthrough as we are now one of the pioneers in IB
education in Tamil Nadu. The accreditation has been possible only due
to the collective and relentless efforts of our teachers, students, parents
and management.
This is a remarkable achievement as IB has very stringent quality
checks for authorisation. We are now determined and confident to
continue our journey as IBPYP World School.
Uniforms
Wearing the school uniform helps to build pride and school spirit but when the
correct uniform is not worn and or it is dirty or sloppy it does not build a culture
of pride or care for one’s school, hence we are asking parents to assist us by
requiring their children to dress in appropriate uniform before leaving to school.
Boys: (K1 – K3 & PYP) - dark grey shorts, half sleeve white shirt, grey /
black socks, tie, belt and black sports shoes; (MYP) - dark grey long pants,
white half sleeve shirt, grey / black socks, tie, belt and black sports shoes.
P.E. – House T-shirt, black track pants, grey / black socks and black sports
shoes.
Girls: (K1 – K3 & PYP) dark grey pinafore, half sleeve white shirt, grey /
black socks, tie, belt and black sports shoes; (MYP) - dark grey long pants,
white half sleeve shirt, grey / black socks, tie, belt and black sports shoes.
P.E. – House T-shirt, black track pants, grey / black socks and black sports
shoes. Formal & sports uniform must be purchased from the school.
Please be informed that the child will be sent to come back if he/she does not
wear the proper school uniform.
Thank you for your support.
Water Bottle - Gateway requires all students to have water bottles in school. These water bottles are important to make sure our students stay hydrated throughout the day. Please send a metal water bottle for each student, which also promotes plastic free zone.
