An orientation for Yank- ton High School ninth-grade students and their parents will be held tonight (Tues- day). Students will report to their homerooms at 7 p.m. Staff will be available to help students find their home- rooms. A presentation for parents will be held in the YHS main theatre from 7-7:45 p.m. The student orientation and parent presentation will both run from 7-7:45. Call Yankton High School at 665- 2073, if you have any ques- tions. A letter pertaining to school information will be sent out prior to Aug. 6. Ninth grade schedules will be distributed in homerooms during Orientation on Aug. 6. All ninth grade parents are encouraged to put money into lunch accounts, pur- chase activity tickets, or pay any fees associated with par- ticular classes from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Aug. 6. Staff will also be available during the entire week of Aug. 12-16 at the Yankton High School Princi- pal’s Office from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Geraldine Pesicka June 9, 1942-July 15, 2013 Geraldine Ann Pesicka Resident of Hayward Geraldine was born in Washington, Missouri and passed away after a long battle with cancer at her home in Hay- ward, Califor- nia with her sons Brad and Scott Pesicka at her bedside. Geraldine, or Jerri as most knew her, was raised in Yankton, South Dakota, along with her 8 siblings, by her parents T. Marjorie Curtice and Emery Frances Curtice. Geraldine married Gerald Pesicka and they moved to California to raise their fam- ily in 1962. Jerri was a loving mother and longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Lorenzo. Jerri enjoyed helping others; as a result volunteering at Eden Hospital gave her much joy and satisfaction. She loved to square dance and was a proud member of the Pleasanton Pairs, Singles and Friends and the Farmers and Farmettes square dancing groups. Jerri’s family and friends were the grateful benefactors of her undeni- able talent for baking. Her banana bread and assorted cakes were filled with incred- ible flavor for sure, but more importantly, they always ar- rived with a great dose of love as well. She enjoyed to go camping and play Bunko with friends, and as a proud member of St John’s, en- joyed participating in all the activities of the St. Gerard’s Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her father Emery Curtice, her husband Gerald Pesicka and the apple of her eye, daughter Kim Cassero. She is survived by sons Brad Pesicka and Scott Pesicka, mother T. Marjorie Curtice, sisters Mary Ellen Brosonski and Jane Smith (Wayne) both of Yankton, SD, sister Pat Hartogs (Ben) of Amster- dam, Holland, brothers Larry Curtice (Angie) of Omaha, NE, Bob Curtice of Yankton, SD, Chuck Curtice (Laura) of Garland Texas, Rick Curtice (Donna) of Vernal, Utah, and Don Curtice of Bozeman, MT. Geraldine was loved by so many and will be missed by all that were blessed to have known her. The viewing was held at Grissom’s Chapel across the street from St. John’s church on Lewelling Blvd in San Lorenzo from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with Rosary to follow on Thursday July 25th. Funeral service will be Wednes- day, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. Visitation will be Tues- day, August 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Park- ston. Emma Leona (Henke) Lehrkamp was born Febru- ary 27, 1924 to John and Louise (Uttecht) Henke on the family farm southeast of Parkston, SD. She was the youngest of eight children and was baptized and con- firmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston. She graduated from Parkston High School in 1942 and then worked at St. Benedict Hos- pital, the Parkston Bakery, and Renfro Variety. On June 22, 1947 she married Norbert A. Lehrkamp at Salem Lutheran Church and then moved to the Lehrkamp fam- ily farm near Delmont, SD. To this union was born one daughter, Patricia Ann. Emma became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Del- mont and served as a Sun- day School teacher for many years, in addition to serving on many committees. Being a farm wife, loving mother, and homemaker were Emma's great joys in life. In the early years she enjoyed gardening and canning, cook- ing and baking, especially bread and kuchen. She also loved doing crafts, knitting, and crocheting, making many afghans for family members and friends. She served as a leader of the Go Getters 4-H Club of Douglas County for ten years, and was also a member of the Prairie People Handicraft Club. Most recently she cro- cheted lap robes and prayer shawls for the Quilters Group of St. John's Lutheran Church of Yankton, SD, her daughter's church. The lap robes were distributed to local nursing home resi- dents, church shut-ins, and the Orpahn Grain Train. Nor- bert and Emma resided on the family farm, even after retirement. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniver- sary on June 22, 2011. Nor- bert went to be with his Lord on May 25, 2012. Emma went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Tripp, SD at the age of 89. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Patricia and hus- band, Ronald Ensenbach of Yankton, SD; a sister-in-law, Loraine Thaler of Wagner, SD; several nieces and nephews and their families, and many friends. Yankton officially received 1.54 inches in about 45 minutes, establishing a new record for Aug. 5. The previous record was 1.46 inches set in 2000. Monday’s storm also included strong winds that reduced visibility to just a few yards at times. There were no reports of major damage. Yankton has received at least some measurable precipita- tion each day of August so far. Monday also saw another streak continue. The high tem- perature of 82 degrees unofficially marked the 18th straight day that Yankton’s high temperature had been below the aver- age normal reading. The average high reading for Aug. 5 is 85.9. Both the rain and temperature trends may continue today, with strong or severe storms possible. Cooler and drier weather is forecast for Wednesday. Crazy Horse Program Set For LibraryHave you ever wondered what happened to the great war-

rior Crazy Horse after he was killed at Camp Robinson innorthwest Nebraska?

Author Cleve Walstrom has sought an answer to the mys-tery of where Crazy Horse might be buried. Over severalyears, Walstrom covered thousands of miles in his pursuit ofthe trails left by Crazy Horse and has documented more than20 possible burial sights.

Lesterville Tractor, Pickup Pull Aug. 24LESTERVILLE — The Lesterville Fire & Rescue’s tractor

and pickup pull, featuring Northeast Nebraska Pullers Asso-ciation, will be held at the Lesterville Baseball Park, Lester-ville at 3 p.m. Aug. 24.

Registration will end 30 minutes before the start of thepull. If you register during that final 30 minutes, there will bea late fee of $5 unless you are pre-registered.

Tractor classes include both modified V-8 classes, 3000,farm stock, and hot farm.
