“Our industry is dedicated to advancing sustainability efforts in building and construction through the use of lightweight, recyclable aluminum,” says Heidi Brock, president and CEO of The Aluminum Association. “This new guide will help building and construction end-users and other stakeholders make educated assessments when developing environmental declarations.”

Due to the highly technical nature of EPD, The Aluminum Association says it is devoted to guiding aluminum users in the characteristics of the metal, reasonable environmental assessment methods, and appropriate sources of data and information on aluminum product EPDs.

The association launched Aluminum in Green Buildings. A Guide to Environmental Declarations at Greenbuild 2016, Oct. 5-7 in Los Angeles. Greenbuild is the world's largest conference and expo dedicated to green building.

At Greenbuild in 2016, which also was hosted in Washington, the association released the first of the guideline series titled “Aluminum That edition was focused on guiding stakeholders to better use the unique mater ia l proper t ies and l i fe cyc le characteristics of aluminum to maximize green building credits.

The Aluminum Association says it represents U.S. and fore ign-based companies and their suppliers throughout the value chain, from primary production to value added products to recycling. The association is one of the industry’s leading voices, providing global standards, business intelligence, sustainability research and industry expertise to member companies, policymakers and the general public.
