Teen silent over stabbing murder By SARAH CRAWFORD in Katherine Jordan Thompson, 18, hides his face as he leaves Katherine Court yesterday A TEENAGER who allegedly had a murdered man’s blood on his clothes refused to give evidence at a coronial in- quest because it might in- criminate him. A bare-footed Jordan Thompson, 18, used his right under the Coroner’s Act to refuse to answer any ques- tions yesterday into the stab- bing death of retired teacher Michael Condrick. Mr Condrick, 50, was claimed to have paid young Aboriginal men for sex. He died of a ‘‘catastrophic haemorrhage’’ after being stabbed in the neck in his Katherine unit around mid- night on June 21 last year. The inquest heard Mr Thompson, from Ngukurr 314km east of Katherine, had Mr Condrick’s blood on the rim of the hood of his jumper and on a pair of black shorts that he was identified as wearing on the night of his murder. Another man, Samuel Wesan, 26, who had given evidence at a previous criminal trial that Mr Cond- rick paid him $20 for sex, also had the victim’s blood on his clothing. Both men have accused the other of murdering Mr Condrick in his Pearce St house. Acting Sergeant David Buganey told the inquest he found Mr Condrick’s naked body on the lounge room floor the afternoon following his death. He made the discovery af- ter being tipped off by a member of the public. Crime scene investigator Senior Constable Keith Cur- rie told the inquest he found a large pool of blood on the floor of the hallway. More blood covered the tiles of the bathroom, and splattered a bedroom wall adjacent to the door. Fingerprint specialist Sen- ior Constable Stephen Cro- ker said Mr Thompson’s and Mr Wesan’s prints were found on porn DVDs in the lounge room. But he could not say how long they had been there. Mr Thompson’s prints were also found on the out- side of a sliding door and a bedroom window. Officer in charge of the coronial investigation Detec- tive Sergeant Tony Henrys gave evidence that about 40 minutes after Mr Condrick was fatally stabbed, a call was made from his stolen phone with a sim card as- sociated with Mr Thomp- son’s then 15-year-old girlfriend. Mr Thompson spent nearly 12 months on remand charged with Mr Condrick’s murder. In June, the trial was abor- ted after two weeks when lost evidence showing Mr Wesan’s shorts were stained with the victims’ blood was suddenly found.
