Weekly Bulletin for Families Message from the Head of School Welcome back to our next half term parents, carers and children. We have many things going on for the students in Saxmudham. Our Year 11 students will be starting their first lot of mock examinations as soon as we come back. We have been supporting them by setting up tutoring during school time and have just set up virtual tutoring which will be happening via ‘My Tutor’. I am sure they have worked hard over the half term but they need to be reassured that these mock examinations will help us to identify gaps in their learning and understanding so that we can help them plug their gaps. The Scholars Programme starts next week with 12 students from Year 7 and 12 from Year 8. The preliminary work will happen this week and we will introduce the programme to the students. Mr Woolven and I will be working alongside the students as the work will be done virtually. This week staff will be talking to your children about the 6Cs: Co-operation Students are expected to: Work with teachers and other adults to help them to understand what they need to do to achieve their targets; Work appropriately with other students during learning activities to maximise progress and minimise wasted time; Co-operate when given instructions that are for the benefit of their learning, achievement and progress. Commitment Students are expected to: Attend School to learn, achieve and make progress; Be punctual to lessons and meet deadlines e.g. for coursework and homework when given; Take responsibility for their own learning, achievement and progress; Have (a) long-term life goal(s) and focus every day on what they need to do to achieve it/ them; Know and understand the grades and levels that they need to achieve their daily, weekly, termly and yearly targets and overall life goal(s). Weekly Bulletin for FamiliesMessage from the Head of School

Welcome back to our next half term parents, carers and children.

This week staff will be talking to your children about the 6Cs:

Scholars Programme

We are excited about doing this half term – students have been invited from Year 7 and 8. Year 7s will be investigating Politics and Year 8 will be looking at Geography. We will keep you updated.

ConfidenceStudents are expected to:• Develop confidence in their abilities and belief in themselves and what they can achieve with

the help of the appropriate staff;• Have high aspirations and the confidence that they can achieve those aspirations;• Have the confidence to ask questions, find out more and report anything which is stopping

them learning, achieving or making progress.

CommunityStudents are part of a learning community and are therefore expected to:• Set themselves and others high expectations and hold each other to them;• Care just as much about others being able to achieve their life goals;• Get fully involved in the life of their School, including enrichment and extra-curricular

activities;• Get fully involved in the life of their local community;• Understand the four different scales of community: local, regional, national and international;• Understand differences in others and value the importance of diversity.

ChallengeStudents are expected to:• Meet each challenge presented to them with confidence and positivity;• Undertake challenges as a means of making faster progress and achieving more;• Provide each other with appropriate learning challenges and support each other to achieve

them;• Appropriately challenge any behaviour that is preventing them from learning, achieving and

making progress.

CelebrationOur students are expected to:• Celebrate the successes they have experienced in School and out;• Support others to be successful and celebrate when they do achieve and make progress;• Display behaviours that encourage themselves and others to strive to achieve greater

success;• Have pride in the achievements of the staff, fellow students, School and wider community. We will be using these to celebrate their work in school by being awarded ‘Positive Praise Points’ which will appear on Go4Schools. When they have reached a certain amount they will be awarded a ’Hero Badge’, they will also be able to receive praise postcards too. I look forward to celebrating these successes with you, our Saxmundham family.

Tokyo

During PE lessons this half term some students in each year group have been either walking or jogging around the field in a competition to see who can reach the Olympic stadium in Tokyo (home of the next Olympics) first. It works out that three laps of the field is a mile and each student’s personal tally contributes to the overall year group score.

Miles so far:• Year 7 - 271• Year 8 - 470• Year 9 - 406• Year 10 - 396• Year 11 - 276

Forest Schools

Year 7 CelebrationsYear 7 have completed their first half term and we are really pleased with how successful they have been.

We presented our students with Praise Postcards and Hero Badges.

Trust Careers AdvisorMeet our new Trust Careers Advisor Mrs Jenny Stockman.

Jenny Stockman has joined SET as their independent careers advisor and is now available to chat through the wealth of Post-16 options that are open to students. From apprenticeships to Sixth form or planning for longer term pathways through university or further education, she will help them explore the pathways that will suit them best and navigate their way through the rapidly changing labour market and further education options.

Jenny joined Seckford Foundation in 2018 to head up their mentoring programme which quickly evolved from a well-being service into holistic support looking at careers, skills, health and wellbeing. Prior to this Jenny came from a business background, with involvement in the development of businesses in partnership others then latterly her own small enterprise. In her spare time she volunteered with Young Enterprise, chairs business networks and, before lockdown, enjoyed creating and running major community events. Her passion is to now share all her connections and experience with young people so they can find as much enjoyment on their career journey as she did… and still does.
