Oppressive summer heat is more than uncomfortable. High temperatures and humidity can pose a health and safety threat. Check on rel ves, neighbors, and

friends. Drink lots of water and natural juices. If you don’t have air cond oning, keep shades drawn and blinds closed but windows slightly open. You may also visit one of the following cooling centers:

Elder fraud is a 36 billion dollar problem, with fraud happening to 1 out of 4 seniors. Did you know that the amount of junk mail an older adult receives is a sign of their fraud risk? It means that the senior’s name is on mu ple lists that scammers can use to contact them. ng rid of junk mail might seem like a lot of work, but it is well worth it if it protects you from fraud. To reduce the risk of ng scammed, here are 4 highly recommended resources you can use to get rid of junk mail:

• DMAChoice (www.dmachoice.org): Registering with DMAChoice stops mail from companies that the senior has never purchased from or donated to. There is a specific form for caregivers.

• onal Do Not Mail List (www.directmail.com): This is another company you can use to opt-out of junk mail. It’s not the same as DMAChoice so you can register with both

ons.

• Opt-Out Pre-Screen (www.optoutprescreen.com OR (888) 5-opt-out): This company stops credit card offers.

• Infocision: This is a telema ng company, but they also manage mailing lists. Call (330) 668-1400 or email: [email protected] to request removal from their lists. This will also reduce te ng calls.

Don’t be discouraged if the junk mail doesn’t stop instantly. Most companies prepare their mailings ahead of me, so it will take about 3 months to see a redu on. (Source: DailyCaring.com)
