Activities will resume when the restrictions of COVID 19 have
been lifted.
America is called the melting pot of the world, because of the many people who have differing cultures, beliefs, ideas, religions, and race. At one time we were a united country wanting only what was best for all. Sadly things have changed, and our country is now divided by black, white, progressive, conservative, Democratic, and Republican ideologies.
So whether we agree or disagree with what is, let's join our hearts, since we can't join our hands, and make the most of the blessings we have and wish America, the very best country in the world, a very happy 243rd birthday.
The Declaration of Independence was ratified by the US Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This document, which is considered sacred by many, has withstood the test of time, and because of it we have the freedoms that we enjoy today.
America was conceived under the Judeo/Christian belief that this nation, under God, has liberty and justice for all people. Our founding fathers looked to God as the author of liberty and justice. Printed on our money is the phrase, “In God We Trust.” Perhaps that is the reason why our country is so great.
The Villages is also a melting pot, because of the many different ideas and backgrounds our residents have. Some were for the Patio Sale, some against. Some are for opening the park to activities, others want to wait awhile. But regardless of our ideas, decisions must be made and we have voted to put the decision makers in charge. Sadly they can't please everyone, so they study it out in their minds and come up with the best decisions they can. If we don't like their decisions, we have the privilege and right to change it with our vote, or to run for office and make the decisions ourselves.

Harry is known in The Villages for his ability to fix almost anything. Need a carpenter? Call Harry. Need some repair work done? Call Harry. Wondering if you need a new roof or if you should get an estimate? Call Harry first. If Harry can't do it, he knows someone who can. He considers himself the Coordinator and has people who can do your yard work, tile bathrooms or kitchens, fix your A/C, electrical or plumbing, trim your trees and more. He has too much work to do himself, but he will get the right person to get your job done.
Jeanine moved to north Texas where Harry soon joined her. They bought a motorhome and toyed with the idea of continuing their work selling architecture pieces at vintage market days throughout Texas. The motorhome didn't cooperate, but it did get them to Arizona where Jeanine has a daughter living in Phoenix.
By Peggy Malsom
Harry and Jeanine James -
Prior to moving here they owned an architectural salvage business in an old cranberry building at the gateway to Cape Cod in Massachusetts. It was the “Home Depot from the s.” When a building was going to be torn down, they would salvage the architectural pieces of interest that people would want to put in their newer homes to give them character such as claw foot bathtubs or fireplace mantels. It was “a good business, but a hard business.” Then after years the bottom fell out of the real estate market and they had to liquidate.
In the April issue of the Crier in the Notes from the Board section, Harry and Jeanine were thanked for “getting groceries, delivering and just taking care of people.” Because of their actions, people who were vulnerable due to age or health conditions were able to stay in their homes and not be potentially exposed to the virus. The most requested items included toilet paper, paper towels, masks, hand sanitizer, and eggs. There are still items available for purchase. Asked if they thought they were heroes for stepping up so that others could stay safe brought an adamant “NO! We are neighborly. Neighbors help neighbors.” Harry and Jeanine's travels have taken them far and wide. Their experiences have been extensive and varied. Luck has dealt them some good and some not so good hands. But when they look at others they see “great and good people.” Perhaps what they are seeing is a reflection of themselves.
Harry and Jeanine feel “so blessed to be in this park” that it was a natural extension for them to offer to help when the COVID lockdown hit earlier this year. They were already helping take care of a lady across the street from them and others with disabilities. They describe themselves as “caretakers, always giving to others because it couldn't be any other way.” Simply stated, “This is the way to do it.” They explain, “It is our nature because it is how we were raised,” then quickly add, “There are a lot of great and good people in The Villages.” COVID “impacted the whole community. We did what we did to keep the virus out of The Villages.”
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Jeanine says she is responsible for all this. After moving to The Villages three years ago from Massachusetts via Texas, Harry was at loose ends. Jeanine told the ladies at her exercise class “I have a husband who needs something to do!” That's how his handy-man business got started.
It was also Jeanine who found their lot in The Villages. She is on the Newcomers' Committee and leads Chair Yoga. She works for Weight Watchers holding webinars on the computer via Zoom.
She liked the looks of the tall stranger, but didn't give out her number to just anyone, so she turned the tables on him. “You could give her your telephone number,” she responded. She didn't know he had missed his earlier scheduled flight due to a party he had attended. It must have been fate because that is how Harry and Jeanine James met on the red-eye flight from Las Vegas to Phoenix some twenty years ago.
“You sure have pretty hair,” said the tall, slender cowboy to the striking blonde in the airport. “What does a guy have to do to take you to dinner?” he asked.

Wood Shop News
This month the wood shop is open and being used by some of our community as you will see below.
This is the box under construction.
Projects at the woodshop are sometimes actually inventions and this article is about one of those. The inventor has “necessity” to thank for his idea. He is building a box that will become a major part of a lift for groceries or packages from the driveway of his home up to the porch without having to carry them up the 5 steps. Ropes or cables will be hooked to each of the corner posts and then connected to an electric motor to move the lift up and down using a pulley with no effort required by a person. Very ingenious.
The major pieces for this box were cut on the table saw. It is an amazing piece of equipment. It can stop the blade from turning in less than a second, if it encounters human flesh. They tested it with a hot dog. Yeah Really. It is a very safe piece of equipment. You can even hold a meeting around it. Note the social distancing displayed here.
Well the box for the lift was still in construction when I left the shop, but I know it is well on the way to being a useful addition to the builder’s, or should I say inventor’s, home.
A last look at the box project.Hope to see you at the shop soon.Stay safe and have fun.

Painting is an opportunity to be creative and being artistic has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety. As we unwind from these unusual circumstances, maybe painting some rocks and sharing them outdoors for others to see or creating some cards to share with people who have been on your mind will help you and others keep on smiling!

Walking Exercise is on hold until further notice.
Yes, it’s more fun to exercise as a group but in the meantime you can find video walking exercises with Leslie Sansone on the internet.
. Please continue to help our little animal friends, with any donation that you can. They seem to need towels, washcloths, hand towels, small rugs, pet beds, food, treats, toys. They do
appreciate everything we donate, I can tell you that. We have done such a wonderful job, so please let’s keep it up, please bring clean items to my carport Lot 87 on Mesquite Tree. They can also use dry dog food if it’s open that is OK. They have lots a little kitty cats there, so we
can’t forget our little kittens. Again thank you very much for everything you donate, it is very appreciated.
Thank You, Patti Toothman, Lot 87 - 928-772-6165, Blessings
