With the recent election behind us, there is a sense among LGBT non-profit agen-cies that our work is more vital and our causes more important than in recent years. With the strong possibility of gov-ernment funding decreases or cuts for lifesaving programs and services, pair-ing people who care with causes that matter becomes an urgent matter. Our Spring iGive grants are a great example of Our Fund leading the way in this effort. Our region is well-served by the grant recip-ients and programs listed inside and I am proud of Our Fund’s association with their good works. Thank you to our tireless grants committee led by Darcy Beeman for their yeoman work in completing the task of reviewing the applications.

The support that we receive from our iGive Society makes our grant-making possible. We are also grateful to our Business Council for its investment in our community. Our friends at US Trust epitomize this investment and we are happy to be partnering with them again this year in numerous ways. We hope that you will agree with this after reading the article inside. If you see a fit between your financial needs and US Trust’s services, please let me know and I will be happy to make an introduction to Joe Mahoney.

And, finally, thank you to everyone who attended our LGBT Leadership Forum in November at the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale. For six years we have been bringing together important voices in the broader LGBT movement and we look forward to being with our family of supporters again next fall.

iGIVE SocietyThe embodiment of Our Fund Foundation’s support of non-profit agencies advancing LGBT issues in South Florida is its iGive grant program. In December, $68,000 was distributed to 12 worthy organizations and projects. The bi-annual granting period is currently open for its Spring cycle with grant applications due on February 28. Guidelines and applications are available on Our-Fund.org. Please encourage agencies you know doing good work in the LGBT space to learn more about this opportunity. A big THANK YOU to our iGive Society donors who make these grants possible through their generous annual support.

Under the premise that Our Fund Foundation exists to promote a culture of philanthropy in South Florida, it was a good match when US Trust signed on as a Business Council partner with Our Fund in 2014. US Trust is committed to helping its clients build legacies, share their wealth with future generations, and supporting charitable causes that are important to its clients.

It is because of these shared values that Our Fund’s founding President & CEO Tony Timiraos and US Trust Senior Vice President & Private Client Advisor Joe Mahoney initially explored a way to partner in order to introduce US Trust’s services to a LGBT audience. Recognition & Updates

We are growing! As of December 31, 2016, Our Fund passed the $4 million dollar mark in assets for the first time, making this a 40% growth just since our last fiscal year closed in June of 2016. Asset size is one key measure of a community foundaton. We grow through both donations and the creation of endowed and non-endowed funds established by individuals and organizations with us. We are both excited and honored with the confidence being placed with us by the community to help us foster responsible philanthropy here in South Florida.

The Contigo Fund, an initiative led by Our Fund Foundation and directed by Marco Antonio Quiroga, supports Pulse-affected communities in Orlando and across Central Florida - including LGBTQ and Latinx individuals, immigrants, and people of color. In January, the Contigo Fund’s eclec-tic grant committee reviewed 16 grant proposals from local organiza-tions working towards the same mission and held a workshop at the Creating Change Conference to elevate the voices, needs, and dreams of the Orlando community following Pulse. Learn more about the Contigo Fund at www.Our-Fund.org/Contigo.

We are honored to receive the benefactor’s award from the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble due to our partnership with its Youth Pride Band. Our Fund’s 2014 “As I See It” Community Assessment Study identified “Support for LGBTQ Youth” as an important issue facing the community. Naturally, the partnership posed a great fit.

Working out of US Trust’s Las Olas Blvd office, Joe Mahoney, says, “ It

was clear to us when Our Fund launched that it would have a considerable impact on the local LGBT non-profit landscape that is so vitally important to the region. It seemed a natural fit to bring our considerable resources to the table to see how we could expand the possibilities together. ”

The relationship continues to be an important one for Our Fund as US Trust supports our efforts to strengthen relationships with current and prospective philanthropists in South Florida. US Trust is an excellent example of community investment that helps Our Fund Foundation and the region’s non-profits to thrive.

The 6th Annual LGBT Leadership ForumOur Fund Foundation explored the topic of international LGBT rights with its 6th Annual Forum held at the Horvitz Auditorium at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale on November 15. Scheduled one week after the election, it was an uncertainty leading up to the event whether the subject would be moderated from an impending Clinton or Trump presidency. As it turns out, the panelists engaged in a lively and urgent discussion about the need to shore up US support on the international LGBT stage as the US is needed to be the leading voice on life and death issues around the world. With panelists from Jamaica and Nigeria, two areas where LGBT people have no government protections, the audience came away with a stark realization of the threats that face LGBT individuals around the world.
