Greetings from both of us once again! Isn’t this fal l weather delightful and refreshing? What else will be re- freshing? …An evening with friends and fellow Kappa Phi members on Thursday, October 21 for a wonder- ful program and fellowship. Remember that the meeting wi ll be “brown bag” at Café Smith from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Our program will be presented by members of the Carrollton Police Department and will focus on safety for women. We will also have a special guest and prospective member join us at our meeting. Dr. Barbara Baethe, one of Texas state membership committee members, has recommended a young lady to us, so we have invited her to come to our meeting and check us out! If you see a new face in the room, please make her feel welcome – in fact, let’s make a real effort to make all of us feel welcome at all our meetings! Many thanks to all the supportive member s of Kappa Phi - we couldn’t do it without you! To so many fabu- lous, hard-working members: to Celeste for sharing website info at our September meeting and for the wonder- ful work she is doing with our newsletter and website; to Beth for chairing our new member recruitment; to Colleen for maintaining our minutes and keeping up with what we are doing each meeting; to Laura for the yearbook preparation; to Helen for collecting our dues and filling out all the important paperwork needed con- cerning our finances; to our finance committee volunteers, Liz and Donna, for their audit this month; to Vici for arranging great programs; to Susan for getting us star ted on our chapter project; to Debbie S for leading us in our memorial to Mary in September; and to our new transfer member, Marilyn Marsh, for volunteering to be our representative to Cora McFarland fund! We still need someone to volunteer to support our chapter as Mu- sic Committee chair. Step right up! It won’t be hard! A special reminder – we will NOT have a meeting in November! Our annual auction fun will be held at our December 2 meeting, so be gathering items to auction that evening at St. Andrews Church, 2793 Valwood, Farmers Branch.  Jan and Tina

October Chapter Meeting

Bring your own dinner or snack to Café Smith at Newman Smith High School. Linda Mayfield will provideiced tea and water. We will eat and fellowship from 5:30-6:00 p.m.

A guest speaker from the Carrollton Police Department will present our program with a topic of self defenseand personal safety awareness for women. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a business meeting to fol-

low. Our meeting will conclude at 7:00 p.m. Invite a prospective member to attend this meeting with you.

December Chapter Meeting

When: Thursday, December 2

Refreshments and Auction: 5:30-7:30 p.m..

Where: St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2783 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch

Program: Auction to Benefit Grants-in-AidInspirational Message: L.L.

Purposes: To Unite, To advance, To endow

We will share hors d’oeuvres and will then take part in an auction of gift items to benefit our Kappa Phi Grantsin-Aid program. Be creative as you plan your donation for the auction. Craft items (made by you or someonelse), baked goods, gift cards, gift baskets, etc., are suggestions. It is expected that everyone bring an item tauction . If you are unable to attend, a donation will take care of your part in this chapter project. It is always futo see how creative and talented our Kappa Phi members are!

Kappa Phi Achievement Award

Mary Clark's sister, Claudia, a fellow Delta Kappa Gamma sister, donated Mary's key pin to our chapter to beused in a way determined by our chapter members. Those present during the September meeting decided tohonor Mary's memory by presenting her key pin to someone in the chapter each spring to recognize that mem-

ber's achievements to Kappa Phi. This member will receive Mary's key pin to wear for the next year, until thenext achievement award recipient is selected. Members of the Achievement Committee will determinethe recipient each year. Chapter members wishing to share ideas for this year's recipient should contact thisbiennium's committee: Linda Mayfield (chair), Nancy Shaheen, and Pat Bielamowicz.

In Memory of Mark Clark

We will be collecting donations during the next few meetings from any members

who would like to donate to the Headquarters Fund in memory of Mary Clark. Youcan bring your donation to a meeting or send it to Helen Marsee at 1456 HomesteadLane, Carrollton, TX 75007. Please make checks payable to Delta Kappa Gammaand mark "In Memory of Mary Clark" in the comments part of the check.

World Fellowship

The World Fellowship Committee supports Purpose 5: "To endow scholarships to aid outstanding women edu-

cators in pursing graduate studies and to grant fellowships to non-member women educators." Chapters pro-mote World Fellowship by contributing to the World Fellowship Fund. At the September meeting, Kappa PhiWorld Fellowship Chairman announced that she will be collecting donations at the October meeting in someunique way; she suggested we bring change in our purses and remember to wear our key pins!

Dues Reminder

If you have not already done so, please pay your dues. Helen Marsee will be accepting your dues payment of $80.00 at the meeting this week. Dues must be sent in to State and International shortly after the October meet-ing date. You can also mail your check to her.

 Personal Growth and Services Committee Reminder 

1. CFB Clothes Closet needs Girls/Boys Underwear. Bring to the October meeting or check with your schoolcounselor. You might be able to drop them off there. Colleen will take them at NSHS. The sizes currentlyneeded are girls and boys 2T-4T, 4 and 6, and also size 8 and 12 for boys. And now that the weather is

turning CHILLY, you can also donate new and gently used children’s coats, if any of you have somethingin that line you'd like to donate.

2. Keep collecting those hotel-type hygienic products—shampoos, lotions, soaps, etc., for a women’s shelter.That will be our "Winter/Spring" project. 

It’s New Member Recruitment Time! 

It is again time to consider submitting recommendations for membership in Kappa Phi Chapter of Delta KappaGamma. Hard copy forms will be available at the October meeting but can also be found on the Alpha Statewebsite at www.dkg.org. Once there, go to “Library,” “Forms”, “Chapter Member”, “Recommendation for

Invitation to Membership Form 11”.

To be considered for active membership, a woman must:

• Be employed in educational work at the time of her election or be retired from education• Demonstrate professional proficiency• Be a contributing member of her community

Kappa Phi members should ACTIVELY seek to include women who will promote professional and personalgrowth of women educators and excellence in education. Members should invite women who represent a vari-ety of academic and cultural backgrounds. The deadline for submitting completed recommendations isNovember 19, 2010. Be sure to invite potential members to our meetings. Bring your student teacher (female)and introduce her to this group of outstanding women educators. What an inspiration it will be for her to beexposed to our positive outlooks on education, rather than the negatives that are so often heard around schoollounges.
