COLD WEATHER ALERT Please be sure your child comes to school prepared for outdoor recess. While there are occasional days students spend recess indoors, most days they are outside for a period of 25 minutes at lunchtime. We recommend that all students have appropriate outerwear. Students wearing snow pants and boots may be on the whole playground; students in boots without snow pants are restricted to the blacktop and playground equipment (at the discretion of the duty people); students with no snow pants and boots are restricted to only the blacktop; and students with no jacket will stay inside the gym on the bleachers. All students are expected to go outside for recess
Tooth Protectors, Inc.
We are excited to be able to provide preventative dental hygiene services to your child at school. Tooth Protectors Inc. (TPI) is a Maine based program; we have a team of licensed, registered dental hygienists who travel
throughout Maine providing much needed preventative dental services. We currently provide services at over 300 clinic sites across Maine.
We bring the dental office to you! Our dental clinic will be set up within your child’s school and they will be seen during school hours.
We provide preventative dental care such as: oral assessments, oral cancer screening, oral hygiene instruction, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants of molars and pre molars, temporary fillings and referrals.
All records are kept confidential and claims to your dental insurance will go directly through TPI per electronic transfer, not the school. TPI is compliant with HIPAA regulations, OSHA’s infection control and with the
Department of Education for Finger printing. We are dedicated to dental education as a means of prevention!
Dental forms were handed out to students at UES last week. If you did not receive a form or need another, please contact Allison in the office. Forms should be returned to the school by Monday, December 5th in order to schedule students efficiently. The dental clinic will be held on December 20th. This will be the only dental clinic this school year.

will be on display after the Gala. Come and create a small wreath or centerpiece for your family and enjoy the evening! Hot dogs, chips and
cocoa will be for sale at the Gala. We ask that you bring goodies to share. The school raffle will be on display and tickets will be on sale at the Gala. Please remember that a parent or

Toys for Tots Once again, Union Elementary School is participating in the Toys for Tots campaign. The mission of the U. S. Please consider donating to this worthy cause. The box will be here in the lobby until December 7th.
The Mynutrikids online payment system will be switching to a program called MySchoolBucks. Parents who use this system should be receiving a notice from Mynutrikids explaining the details. On November 30 the RSU 40 tech department will be doing what needs to be done before this transition can take place. During this time the Mynutrikids online payment system will be locked down for 48 hours. We apologize for any inconvenience. I would recommend that any payments made to your child's account be done so through the school from Nov. 29 until given a green light to use the MySchoolBucks system. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The new system should be even better than the one we are using now. This transition does not affect anyone who sends money to the schools. This only affects those who make payments to their child's lunch account online. If you have any questions, please feel free to call. Thanks, Storm Hendrickson Food Service Director S.A.D.# 40 (207) 785-2277 Ext. 241

..…………..From The Health Office……………….
As the holidays are upon us many parents will be shopping for that special gift for their child. The stores are full of choices and glitz! Making a decision may be difficult, and safety overlooked. The District School Nurses would like to share some basic safety tips to help make your child’s holiday happy and safe. For those who may be in the market for a new bike, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the following: 1. Sitting on the seat with hands on the handlebar, your child should be able to place the balls of both feet on the ground. 2. Straddling the center bar, your child should be able to stand with both feet flat on the ground with about a 1-inch clearance between the crotch and the bar. 3. When buying a bike with hand brakes for an older child, make sure that the child can comfortably grasp the brakes and apply sufficient pressure to stop the bike. Stick with coaster brakes until your child is older and more experienced. 4. A helmet should be standard equipment to prevent concussion, potential brain damage or even death. (Wearing a bike helmet is a rule in US Bike Racing and the Olympics!) A helmet should be worn squarely on the head, covering the forehead. If it is tipped back, it will not protect the forehead. The helmet fits well if it doesn’t move around on the head or slide down over the wearer’s eyes when pushed or pulled. The chinstrap should be adjusted to fit snugly. Remember that bikes are vehicles and not toys. A bike that is too big for your child can cause them to lose control and be injured. Establish the helmet habit early, and be an example of a safe rider to all bike riders! Holiday Music & Fair Includes Magical Tent for Kids to Shop On Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Broad Bay Congregational UCC in Waldoboro welcomes children up to age 11 to a magical tent where they can buy presents costing from 25 cents to $5 for moms, dads, siblings, other family and friends. In addition, there will be hot chocolate, coffee/tea and sweet treats for sale; a table with last-minute gift items; an opportunity to learn about and contribute to Heifer Intl.; gift-wrapping station; seasonal centerpieces, and a bake table with cookie walk. Relax to holiday music (recorded and live) in the church sanctuary, and join in a community sing from 3:15 to 4 p.m. Snow date is Dec 16, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Broad Bay Church is at 941 Main Street, near the post office. 832-6898.

Participants in the Competition program learn choreographed dance routines, stunts, cheers and perform at Maine Youth Cheering events. The competition squad size is limited to 20 and no previous experience is required. There will be a registration session on Saturday, December 1st in the Miller School Gym from 2:00-3:30pm in addition to the first practice for the Sideline program.
