COLD WEATHER ALERT Please be sure your child comes to school prepared for outdoor recess. While there are occasional days students spend recess indoors, most days they are outside for a period of 25 minutes at lunchtime. We recommend that all students have appropriate outerwear. Students wearing snow pants and boots may be on the whole playground; students in boots without snow pants are restricted to the blacktop and playground equipment (at the discretion of the duty people); students with no snow pants and boots are restricted to only the blacktop; and students with no jacket will stay inside the gym on the bleachers. All students are expected to go outside for recess

The Mynutrikids online payment system will be switching to a program called MySchoolBucks. Parents who use this system should be receiving a notice from Mynutrikids explaining the details. On November 30 the RSU 40 tech department will be doing what needs to be done before this transition can take place. During this time the Mynutrikids online payment system will be locked down for 48 hours. We apologize for any inconvenience. I would recommend that any payments made to your child's account be done so through the school from Nov. 29 until given a green light to use the MySchoolBucks system. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The new system should be even better than the one we are using now. This transition does not affect anyone who sends money to the schools. This only affects those who make payments to their child's lunch account online. If you have any questions, please feel free to call. Thanks, Storm Hendrickson Food Service Director S.A.D.# 40 (207) 785-2277 Ext. 241

..…………..From The Health Office……………….

As the holidays are upon us many parents will be shopping for that special gift for their child. The stores are full of choices and glitz! Making a decision may be difficult, and safety overlooked. The District School Nurses would like to share some basic safety tips to help make your child’s holiday happy and safe. For those who may be in the market for a new bike, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the following: 1. Sitting on the seat with hands on the handlebar, your child should be able to place the balls of both feet on the ground. 2. Straddling the center bar, your child should be able to stand with both feet flat on the ground with about a 1-inch clearance between the crotch and the bar. 3. When buying a bike with hand brakes for an older child, make sure that the child can comfortably grasp the brakes and apply sufficient pressure to stop the bike. Stick with coaster brakes until your child is older and more experienced. 4. A helmet should be standard equipment to prevent concussion, potential brain damage or even death. (Wearing a bike helmet is a rule in US Bike Racing and the Olympics!) A helmet should be worn squarely on the head, covering the forehead. If it is tipped back, it will not protect the forehead. The helmet fits well if it doesn’t move around on the head or slide down over the wearer’s eyes when pushed or pulled. The chinstrap should be adjusted to fit snugly. Remember that bikes are vehicles and not toys. A bike that is too big for your child can cause them to lose control and be injured. Establish the helmet habit early, and be an example of a safe rider to all bike riders! Holiday Music & Fair Includes Magical Tent for Kids to Shop On Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Broad Bay Congregational UCC in Waldoboro welcomes children up to age 11 to a magical tent where they can buy presents costing from 25 cents to $5 for moms, dads, siblings, other family and friends. In addition, there will be hot chocolate, coffee/tea and sweet treats for sale; a table with last-minute gift items; an opportunity to learn about and contribute to Heifer Intl.; gift-wrapping station; seasonal centerpieces, and a bake table with cookie walk. Relax to holiday music (recorded and live) in the church sanctuary, and join in a community sing from 3:15 to 4 p.m. Snow date is Dec 16, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Broad Bay Church is at 941 Main Street, near the post office. 832-6898.

A Holiday Classic returns to the Camden Opera House

Come see this heart-warming adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”. Past audiences have declared that this is “the best version they have ever seen.” John Bielenberg (award winning scenic designer and director) created this innovative, musically spirited production. Joining the cast are Christine West, Jay Rosenberg, Jeff Spera, Ilianna Kahn, Scott Anthony Smith, Mikaila Gould, Robin Jones, Leah Cook Smith, Kathryn Snyder and Audrey Lane. Joani Mitchell will be providing the musical accompaniment. Special pre-show performances will be presented by choruses from Hope Middle School on Friday night and by Lincolnville Middle School on Saturday night. Leah Winchenbach and and Lucas Fisher will also be joining us from the Bay Chamber Music School. Make this your family’s favorite holiday tradition.
