18U

Date: 29th April 2014

Game/against: Loss 31/38 Lions

Opportunities presented themselves again for our developing athletes with Becky,

Emily and Lauren Anderson all gaining valuable court time in Reserves,

experiencing the next level above.

A positive from the Game

A high intensity match was nothing we didn’t expect and it was delivered by both

teams, fighting it out until the final whistle. Both teams struggled to find

consistency at times but we were extremely pleased to see our team lift in intensity,

taking the game to another level, fighting back to reel in the Lions.

Coaches’ athlete achievement: (this is not necessarily the best player of the

game, but for a player that has been given a task and has achieved it, has had

a dramatic improvement or something similar):

Consistent drives in attack by Bailey and Bartel created options forward, working

the ball round the circle edge to feed the shooters in the circle.

Costly errors in attack from held balls and footwork and our options going away

from the ball caused us not to capitalize on our hard work. Taking responsibility of

what we do on court is something we are learning and getting better each week.

Dayna created many defensive turnovers with her continuous efforts against her

player, staying disciplined and picking up the loose balls while being a good option

in attack – utilizing the leading and backing up at the transverse.

Combining well with the defensive circle unit with Lauren returning from injury and

coming on to make an impact, listening to feedback and implementing the ‘turn and

block’ to pull down much needed rebounds.

Game/against: Loss 36/58 Lions

Not the result we wanted from our last game against the Lions but they moved the

ball very quickly in attack and in transition and we couldn’t adapt in the first half.

A positive from the Game

IN the second half we took a different approach and set up a few defensive

strategies to slow the play and change the game.

We then outscored Lions 11 to 12 in the 3rd quarter and really rattled them. Jenn

Gibson shot 10/11 in this quarter which was great.

Coaches’ athlete achievement: (this is not necessarily the best player of the

game, but for a player that has been given a task and has achieved it, has had

a dramatic improvement or something similar):

As a coaching group we were pleased with all players in the second half to respond

to our structural directions.

Britt Follet came on and gave us options up the middle of the court.

Elice had a good game and her and Tanya’s attempt at first ball and leadership was

great.

I was pleased with Tayler McLeod’s first game in reserves too.

Karly Hoar

Date: _29 April 2014 Game against/Result: Warriors 60 Defeated Rangers 34 A positive from the Game There were so many positives from this game. The accountability from each player to win their position on court and support their team mates was exceptional. Whilst the girls worked hard the whole game without a doubt the second quarter was definitely the stand out quarter. The team stepped up the defensive pressure creating many turnovers. The girls converted the turnovers in attack which saw a 13 goal uninterrupted run halfway through the quarter. The attacking and ball movement through the centre corridor was fast and efficient and with each goal confidence grew with the girls producing some brilliant passages of play. The final score was a direct reflection of the teams hard work. Coaches’ athlete achievement: Very hard to pick a best player from this game however Heidi Wilson was outstanding in defence keeping her GA to a goalless quarter, taking many intercepts and instrumental in driving the ball out of the backline, however every athlete worked extremely hard and the win can only truly be attributed to what a team can accomplish through strong teamwork and hard work.

It’s been wonderful to see our WCW Patron; John Neate, at the West Coast Warriors games. This is John’s second year as our Patron and his support is greatly appreciated.

The West Coast Netball Region are giving primary schools and club teams with players aged from 7 to 12 the opportunity to adopt a West Coast Warrior player or players. The cost of “adoption” is $250.00 per Warriors player. For this your team will receive: A West Coast Warrior player/s (two will attend if from 18 & Under team)

to attend 2 x 45 minute training sessions at either the team’s school training venue or their training venue at WDNA or JNA. The Warriors will deliver two training sessions that will be suitable for the age of the team.

Your team is to supply the training equipment (balls, cones and bibs

etc.) Your “adopted” Warrior player will attend either JNA or WDNA to watch

a full game played by the team – as a supporter and mentor to the players.

The West Coast Netball Region will arrange for the team to attend a

Smarter Than Smoking State Netball League game (either at Arena or Challenge Stadium). The team will meet with the Warriors team and have their photo taken with the players. The team members will also receive an autographed laminated team poster, a Warriors drink bottle, and a laminated Warrior player collector card. Please note that the cost is $250.00 for one team (i.e. up to 10 players).

This is a unique opportunity to have close interaction between West Coast Warrior Players and grass roots netball. For further information please contact WCNR Administrator Tricia Anderson on
