RECOMMENDED ARBITERS FROM EUROPE FOR CHESS
OLYMPIAD 2014 IN TROMSO
President of the European Chess Union Mr. Silvio Danailov has sent a letter to FIDE President Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov with the list of 12 recommended Arbiters from Europe for the forthcoming Olympiad 2014 in Tromso, Norway.

The Azerbaijani Youth Chess Championship for boys
and girls – U 14, 16, 18 was held from 23rd March to 2nd
April, 2014. Chief Arbiter of the tournament, organized
by the Azerbaijani Chess Federation, was IA Namig
Ismayilov.
The average ELO rating of the different categories was: boys U18 - 2047, girls U18 -
1859,boys U16 – 1817, girls U16 - 1620, boys U14 - 1784, girls U14 - 1669.

Estonian Youth Chess Championship for boys and girls –
U10 was held from 28-30 March, 2014 in Tartu.
Chief Arbiter of the tournament, organized by the Estionian
Chess Federation, was Peep Narusberg.
The average ELO rating of the boy’s section of the championship was 1287 and 1264
of the girl’s section.

March, 2014 in Panevėžys.
Chief Arbiter of the tournament was IA Paliulionis
Raimondas, whereas Tournament Director was
Gabrilavičienė Salvinija.
The total number of participants was one hundred and four.

IVANCHUK WINS LATVIAN RAILWAY OPEN 2014

Ivanchuk won Latvian Railway Open
A, a Rapid tournament which was held
in Riga/Latvia, from 28-30 March, 2014.
Ivanchuk scored amazing 13 points out
of 14, with a rating performance of 3059
points! He started with 9 out of 9,
which is a truly remarkable start, and
finally finished with 12 wins and only
two draws.
It is certainly worth mentioning that the competition was very strong, with some of
the top players like Alexei Shirov (LAT), who was at the same time the co-organizer
of the event, Sergei Zhigalko (BLR), Vladimir Malakhov (RUS), David Navara
(CZE), Viktor Bologan (MDA), Loek van Wely (NED), Daniel Fridman (GER), Igor
Kovalenko (LAT), young Vladimir Fedoseev (RUS), the bronze medalist from
recently finished European Individual Chess Championship in Yerevan, etc.

The first seed GM Vladimir Malakhov came second with 10 points, three points less
than Ivanchuk, and the third place went to GM Daniel Fridman from Germany with
9.5 points.

The tournament was held in the Latvian Railway History Museum in the heart of
Riga. It was played according to the Swiss System in 14 rounds, with the rate of play
15 minutes + 6 seconds.

Apart from A group, there were B and C groups. The winner of the B tournament
was Edgars Lelis (LAT) with 10/12, while Jevgenij Pavlenko (LAT) won the C
tournament also with 10/12.
