Dear families,

Your child’s safety is of paramount importance and we strive to make school a happy and safe place every day. We have a number of

procedures in place that you can help us with keeping them safe.

New visitor sign on procedures

You are always welcome at MPS, however it is essential that all visitors to school sign-in on arrival and sign-off on your departure.

Parents who are at school briefly to collect their children do not need to sign on, however if you are in the school for more than a few

minutes you need to sign-on. It is essential that we know who is in the school for two very important reasons: 1. Incase of an

emergency evacuation or lock-down. 2. To adhere to child protection requirements.

The next time you visit the school, you will notice we have a new electronic sign-on device. This will replace the need for pen and pa-

per… it is so easy, and the front office staff are happy to show you how!

Working With Children Check (WWCC)

If you are volunteering for the school for things such as the canteen, assisting with sporting events or fund raising it is important that

you have a working with children check…it is free and easy to apply. You can click on the link below or ask us at the front office and we

are happy to help. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-working-children-check

The front office will keep a copy of your WWCC on our files.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up zones for cars

The staff car park can be a very busy place with staff cars and delivery trucks coming and going. We advise that children are not to walk

through the car park and that parents use the pickup zones in Ward Street and Derby Street.

We have designated departure points for children to use at the end of the school day. Teachers are on duty at the points each

afternoon. Eg bus lines, pick-up zone and walkers. Sometimes children do not arrive to where they should be at the end of the day and

frantic parents call the school. We can then cross check where we last saw your child. However if they do not consistently use one of

this departure points it slows down the process of determining when we last saw your child.

There should be no reason for children to walk through the front office as they arrive or depart the school, other than with a parent.

Emergency contact details.

Thank you parents for returning the red form with emergency contact and medical details for 2019. It is important to advise us as soon

as possible, if these details change during the year.

Three-way interviews

When parents engage with their child’s school, it creates a successful partnership with great results for students, schools and parents.

Research has shown the benefits of parental engagement in children’s education include, among others, better academic outcomes and

fewer behavioural issues, so we all have a stake in making sure we get it right. As ever, the key to it all

is communication.

Next week all teachers will host three-way interviews; that is the child, the teacher and the parents/

carers, to enhance communication and understanding of student learning goals. We have set a target

of 100% attendance, so we are very much looking forward to seeing you next week. Please return the

note to secure a date and time.

Swimming Carnival On Friday MPS held their annual swimming carnival, and what a day it was! After a week of rigorous marching

practise and some friendly chanting rivalry, all students were keen to get in and do their best. The weather was

perfect, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and spirit levels were high. We began the day with our march past, which

was closely contested and eventually taken out by Mokera. After some house chants to get everyone in the spirit,

we headed to the pool. This year saw a huge amount of swimmers participating from Kindergarten to Year 6, and

the level of sportsmanship between all swimmers is to be commended. Their houses eagerly cheered anyone on

who jumped in to have a go, and there were plenty of ‘great swims’ and ‘well dones’ to be heard among students.

After finishing the day with the parent/teacher/ex-student relay, which was taken out by the Bareki parents, it was

time to tally the points. Mokera rallied through with the win, with Bareki and Allunga promising to be hot on their

tails next year. The day ran extremely smoothly thanks to the help of our teachers and parent volunteers, who did a

wonderful job of keeping our races timed and our bellies full. Georgie Campbell—Swimming Co-ordinator

WHAT’S HAPPENING...

Students are loving going to the Kids Kitchen for

Book Club with Mrs Saunders at lunch time.

Students and teachers alike are enjoying the new morning muster

routine... we all start the day together as one. It has also improved our

whole school daily communication.

During the last few years we have been investing

in new classroom furniture and we now have all

classrooms K-6 kitted out. This flexible furniture

enables teachers to deliver a collaborative,

problem solving teaching style.

Many parents took-up the invitation to attend the class

meetings that were held recently.
