Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had an exciting week celebrating World Book Day on
Thursday! We had a costume competition, children visited
classrooms for different activities and we counted all our books
that were kindly donated by children - we raised a grand total
of 173 books! Anthology, who are an organisation part of the local
building works at Tottenham Hale have kindly offered to match
this amount with brand new books for the school! Representatives
from Anthology are pictured above reading stories to Year 2
children. Thank you for your kind generosity! More World Book
day pictures can be found below.

Nursery
It’s been another busy week in Nursery. On Tuesday we talked about
Pancake day and its association with the forthcoming period of Lent.
Arda and Mehmet can be seen in the photo honing their fine motor and
creative skills in designing their own pancake. World book day on
Thursday was celebrated with children wearing costumes from their
favourite stories which were displayed in a lovely assembly. The
photograph shows Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Captain
America and princesses of various descriptions listening to extracts
from books. Have a good weekend all.
Reception
The children have been exploring aspects of shape space and measure. They’ve been learning about capacity and weight and the vocabulary related to it. They have also had the opportunity to discuss how and when they could use it in play, in the kitchen and how it could be useful in other areas. The children continue to learn about recycling and reusing some materials. They have currently been busy investigating how they could create a game. With careful planning before designing, the children created their own game that they could use to play in their outdoor area. In P.E, they have started to learn Basketball skills and practising different types of throws to use in when playing
the game.

Year 1
Year 2
This week year 2 have been focusing on our new topic ‘How has food changed over time?’ We have looked at food from the 17th century and tried some cinnamon pudding! We have also looked at puddings that our grandparents would have eaten when they were children. In English we have been focusing on Florence Nightingale and writing letters in role as soldiers who were treated by Florence Nightingale. On Thursday, during World Book Day, we were very proud to be judged as the best dressed class and look forward to buying some new books for our reading
corner!
Year 3
In Year 3 this week we have been focusing on Science. We are learning about parts of plants and their functions. We carried out an investigation to observe how water is transported through the plant and how does the temperature affect the speed of transportation of water through the plant. Children enjoyed setting up the experiment and observing the changes of colour in plants.
This week Year 1 have been learning all about the history of flight. We read about the inventors of the hot air
balloon, the Montgolfier brothers. We also watched video footage of the first ever aeroplane flight. The first ever
aeroplane was invented by the Wright brothers in 1903. We made our own aeroplanes in class but instead of wood and fabric the materials we used were plastic and card. In
Maths we have been practicing our number bonds and using these to solve missing number problems. In English
we have been answering questions about our class book, Angus Rides the Goods Train. Next week we will be learning about time so please practise at home. Don’t
forget it is our class assembly on Friday 15th. All of the lines for this have been put inside homework books.

Year 4
Since starting the book “When Jessie came across the sea” in English this half term, there is growing excitement each day as the children are eager to see what brilliant activity they will be doing that day. This week they were afforded the opportunity and freedom to examine each character in the book. They wrote some fantastic character descriptions and character profiles. They now feel that they know Jessie really well and can empathize with her as she leaves her grandmother to ravel and start a new life in America all by herself.
Year 4, I wonder what challenges Jessie will face? We will definitely read on to find out.
Year 5
This week in Year 5 the children have started their
unit of work on the Vikings and have learnt some
very interesting facts. Beowulf, which we are
exploring for our big read links in very well with
the Vikings and did you know that it is a poem
which is over 300 lines long?! In English, the
children have enjoyed working in groups to carry
out research to produce some fantastic Wikipedia
pages. In addition to this, the children took part in
some role playing where they had to pretend to be
a newspaper reporter and a key witness. In
math’s we have been busy converting decimal
numbers and fractions. Finally, Year 5 enjoyed the activities on World Book
Day!

Year 6
Year 6 have started their topic unit looking at the Ancient Greeks. We have
established the period in time they existed and the make-up of the different
city-states at the time. The children have explored the difference in cultures
and customs between the Athenians and Spartans. In English, the children
have been continuing to work through themes in Bridge to Terabithia and we
are exploring the dynamic relationships between Jess, Leslie and Janice, the
main characters. In Reading we have started a gripping new book, ‘Wild Boy’
and have delved into the world of showmen, stages, acting, all with a
murderous twist which is soon to be revealed. We also enjoyed the World
Book Day activities that took place on Thursday!
