YEAR 8 CAREERS EVENT

Our Year 8 students took part in a Career Kids event on Friday, which was run by Royal London Insurance and Business in the Community.

Groups were taught about the effectiveness of communication. One of the tasks involved building a lego aeroplane. They were split into two groups, one group had the lego and the other group had the instructions, so they had to build it by communicating with each other.

Adham Jaidy, Marketing Manager at Royal London, who was involved with hosting the event, said the students had responded really well to the tasks and worked well together as a team.

Our former Engagement Officer Mr Strickland returned to school to help mentor the Year 8 students taking part.

As part of his role as Flight Sergeant for the RAF, Mr Strickland has lots of invaluable experience and advice. He says he is always keen to encourage our students at Manchester Academy achieve the best of their potential.

Our staff had a great time at the Beach BBQ on Thursday.

They enjoyed burgers and fresh produce from our school allotment, including onions, potatoes and herbs, which were prepared by our students.

There was also a prize for best dressed which was won by Miss Quadra in our main office, big congrats!

Students in the Year 10 Engineering class have secured a full week of work experience with ARUP Manchester.

This will take place during Engineering Awareness Week at the ARUP Manchester offices from July 9 – 13.. The students taking part are: Ahmed Mirza Baig, Zelke Tutagiel, Muhamamd Haider and Hadi Najjar.

The event is coordinated by Ahead Partnership which works across the country with employers and educators to provide services that help employers to engage, inspire and motivate young people around skills, career options and employment.

Mr Nizeyimana, KS4 Maths Coordinator and Teacher of Engineering, explained our students will have an opportunity to experience the working environment in a top engineering company. It is hoped that this will inspire them to consider studying STEM subjects in further/higher education. They will also gain communication and team work skills as they will be working with other students from different schools.

The academy’s participation in the scheme is another example of its commitment to provide an Education with Character.

Year 7 For their fantastic behaviour and attitude during the Year 6 welcome evening on Thursday 21st June. The students all helped with getting parents settled when they came for the assembly and then they all had to stand up and answer ques-tions in front of a full assembly hall of parents and students. They answered their questions very well and talked very politely and clearly.
