President’s Message

Dear BAGC Members,

I am sure all of you are enjoying the arrival of summer (finally). As we get busy with summer activities, BAGC EC has also been busy organizing various events, working on long term goals and commitments that align with our objectives as an organization. Banga Sanskriti Dibas and Musical Evenings at Banga Bhavan were very well attended and enjoyed by all. We now look forward to the Annual Picnic on July 19th at Busse Woods and Children's Day on August 9th at Banga Bhavan. We will also be organizing various cultural, religious and youth events at Banga Bhavan. We continue to work on increasing our membership base. While we have welcomed many new members, some of our existing or regular members have not registered yet. Please use our online registration or mail in your registra-tion, we need your continued involvement and support. Our Nepal Relief effort was really successful. We donated a total of $16,041, divided among 3 charities: Rotary International of Kolkata; UNICEF and Water Missions International. Thanks for your generous donations to help further one of BAGC's key objectives. We will publish names of donors and contribution details on our website. Our new Protimas are almost ready. We are working closely with the idol maker to ensure the Protimas arrive on time. We thank members who have already donated and request others to come forward and donate for this cause. At the time of writing our collections stand at $4,600 and we will need $7,500 - $8,000. Preparations for Durga Puja have also begun. We are having Durga Puja on Oct 16th, 17th & 18th this year at Bartlett High School.

As the year goes on, our BAGC family with one foot firmly planted on our traditional activities, looks creatively for new avenues to grow and evolve, welcome new members and fresh ideas.

BAGC EC is proud to be the facilitator of this process.

With Best Regards,

Sandeep Chaudhuri BAGC President

Ad Hoc Re-Organization Committee : Progress Report

On February 22, 2014, BOT approved the formation of an Ad Hoc Re-Org. Committee to review all the BAGC com-mittees / structures and recommend if any changes are needed for more efficient , smooth functioning of the BAGC organization. This Ad Hoc Re-Org Committee members have been working hard at this difficult task for almost a year. Here is the Mission statement that has been developed by this independent committee:

“Evaluate the current BAGC organizational structure for improved effectiveness, efficiency and accountability in

order to meet the legal and fiduciary responsibilities and to adhere to the core values and principles of the Or-

ganization as outlined in Article 2 of the BAGC Constitution.”

A comprehensive presentation was made by the members of the Re-Org Committee on May 23, 2015 during the Banga Sanskriti Dibash event at Streamwood High School. The committee has made several reorganization / restructuring recommendations for BAGC for efficient and smooth functioning. The complete copy of this presentation was sent to the BAGC members ( via Google group) by the Secretary of BOT for your review. Various comments / feedbacks were received during the presentation and are being reviewed by the Re-Org committee.

BOT would like to assure the BAGC members that a strict constitutional process will be followed and no structural changes

will be made without a full participation / vote by the general members at a GBM.

Formation of “Ad hoc Financial Solvency/ Sustainability Review Committee”

Board Of Trustees of BAGC , at its meeting on May 16, 2015, has unanimously approved the formation of an “Ad hoc Finan-

cial Solvency/ Sustainability Review Committee”.

Ad-hoc Committee Members:

Amitava Deb

Shouvik Dutta

Debasish Gooptu

Uditt Mukherjee

Subhas Bose

Dipak Ghosh ( Facilitator)

Background • BOT has created this Ad-hoc committee to explore approaches to make BAGC self-sustaining and solvent over the long

run

• The committee will not interfere, overlap with the short term (annual) fund raising and financial management of

BAGC which is under the jurisdiction of the yearly Executive Committee.

• The Ad hoc committee will present its findings and recommendation to the BOT for consideration and possible im-

plementation

• The duration of the committee will be a maximum of six months from May 16, 2015 – at that point of time the com-

mittee will cease to exist.

This ad-hoc committee is being formed following the BAGC Constitution Article no. 5; Section 5a:

“Article 5. Governing Body Section 5a : The governing body of the Association shall be vested in a Board of Trustees,

Executive Committee, Special Fund Committee, By-Laws Committee, and Nomination Committee with addi-

tional ad hoc committees as deemed necessary by these committees or by the General Body.”

Mission:

Sustain the long term financial viability of BAGC without being dependent on corporate sponsorship

and yearly budget variations.

Appointment of an External Financial Auditor / CPA:

Pursuant to the IL State requirement for the Non-profit organization ( like BAGC), an external Certified

Public Accountant has been appointed to audit and certify the financial records of the 2014 BAGC. It is re-

quired by the State of Illinois to have this external audit when the total annual budget exceeds $300,000 in a

given calendar year. BAGC exceeded this limit in 2014. The BOT, in consultation with the 2014 EC, has

appointed Mr. Raj P. Thakral, MBA, CPA ( Smart Millennium Solutions, LTD ) to conduct this audit.

Respectfully submitted ,

On behalf of BOT,
