Newsletter # 33_2018

28 September 2018

Dear Parents

We are at the end of the Third Term, the supposedly “quiet” term. Well, on reflection, this term has been far from quiet - it

has been really busy. We have had two Derby Days, first played away against Tableview High and then played at home against

Groote Schuur High. We have also had the Inter-House Plays and the Grade 11 Fashion Show. The Basketball Boys’ teams

have toured to Johannesburg, the Xhosa pupils have toured to the Eastern Cape and we have hosted 30 Italian exchange

students and their four teachers. All the while the Matrics have had to write their Mock Matric exams.

The Term came to a grand finale with the Sport and Cultural Awards Dinner on Tuesday evening. Our guest speaker was the

former Head of Dance in the WCED, Jenny van Pappendorf. She commended us on the high profile that the arts enjoy at

Camps Bay High School. A highlight of this special evening was that the meal was cooked by our very own catering club

under the leadership of Ms Samu and assisted by Mrs Motha with a guest appearance from Mr Toyer. The pupils were amazing

and the food memorable.

As part of an annual review, we are currently

asking you to fill in an online Tuckshop survey.

Clothing Drive

for World Homeless Day –

10 October 2018

This year, leading up to World Homeless Day

on 10th October 2018, U-Turn is running a

clothing drive and Camps Bay High School has been designated as a collection site.

We would like to appeal to you to please donate any unused clothing that will

give the over 7 500 homeless people of Cape Town a second chance.

Santa's Shoe Box

We are participating in #santasshoebox again this year. Your box will need to

be at school on the first day of school next Term so we can meet the project

deadlines.

Annual Camps Bay School Magazine:

We are busy putting together the annual Camps Bay High School Magazine. We would love to involve as many families and

pupils as possible in the magazine. Here are some opportunities:

Magazine Page Sponsorship: To keep the costs of the publication down, we are offering families the opportunity to

sponsor pages in the magazine. A page will cost you just R350 to sponsor and in exchange for this sponsorship you will

receive a one liner credit on a magazine page thanking you for your sponsorship.

Magazine Advertising: This year, we have decided to cut down on the advertising and offer just the inside front cover and

back inside cover for advertising.

Across the Generations Feature - is a photographic spread of children with their parents and/or grandparents who

were past pupils of the school.

Keep it in the Family Feature - is a page in the magazine that is dedicated to families who have children on more than

one of the campuses.

If you would like to take up any of these opportunities, please contact Carol on [email protected]

or 076-359-3286.

Publicity for Camps Bay Schools

Camps Bay Primary School made it onto the

front page of the Weekend Argus on

Saturday with the rhino painting they painted

to commemorate World Rhino Day. The

painting forms part of an attempt to break

the Guinness World Record on the largest

painting while raising awareness about rhino

poaching.

Camps Bay Primary School was also in the

Peoples Post newspaper for their incredible

achievements in a local Maths Competition.

Celebration and Valedictory

For the new High School parents let me take a

moment to explain the purpose of these two

events at our school.

Firstly, let me cover our celebration

(11 October 2018 at 18h30 in the DAQ).

This is the traditional school prize giving with a

difference. On this evening we ‘celebrate’ our

academic and other top achievers, but also our

year together as a school. While we will be

handing out prizes, we also will enjoy and

showcase the Cultural activities that have been part of this year. So we will watch performances of drama, dance and music

through the course of the evening. We want you our parents to come to this ‘celebration’ and share the evening together

with us. If you have the time, please be seated in the DAQ by 18h30.

On Friday 12 October 2018 at 11h00 we have our Valedictory Assembly. This is our ‘farewell;’ to our Matric class of

2018. In this special assembly we will honour our current Grade 12’s and bid them farewell as they complete their 12 years

of public schooling. Once we have said ‘goodbye’ they have a week of study leave and then they start their final external

Matric exams.

Request for Eats for Tea After Celebration

Traditionally we ask the Grade 8 and 9 parents to each bring a plate of eats for the tea after the Celebration ceremony. Can

you please bring a plate of sweet treats on the day of Celebration (11 October 2018) to the kitchen? You are welcome to

bring your treats in throughout the day.

Celebration

We are looking for old white sheets or table cloths which can be dyed in different colours for Celebration. If you are able to

donate, please deliver to Mr Cross or leave at the Reception with Ms Murray.

Sports & Cultural Awards Dinner

The Sports & Cultural Awards Dinner was held in the school hall on Tuesday, 25 September. It was flawlessly co-

ordinated by Mrs. Cronje and the Catering Society, under the guidance of Mrs. Samu delivered a delicious menu of food that

would rival any five-star hotel!
