From the Principal…
Dear Families,
Although we enjoy a strong focus on numeracy and literacy every week, this week we
have been particularly focused on aspects of literacy as we have celebrated ‘Literacy
Week’. Activities have included target word competitions, cross age and buddy reading,
book dress up day, wear a ‘wow’ word to school day, show and share book reviews and
literacy board games. The culmination of our activities and celebrations on Friday will
be wearing ‘a touch of red’ to demonstrate that we are ‘well read’!! Thank you to
library technician, Tina and our literacy team, Sue, Jenny, Shelley and Lee for
promoting this week and providing such a variety of activities.
Unfortunately due to the bad weather the District Athletics scheduled for last Friday was
cancelled but will be held on Friday of this week, weather permitting! We wish our
large squad of 50 competitors well and hope they have an enjoyable and successful day.
Please remember our Parents’ Association is organising a Fathers’ Day Stall for Friday
this week. Children are invited to bring along $5.00 for the purchase of a special gift for
Fathers’ Day. Thank you to our Parents’ Association for again organising this annual
event. It is always well received and supported by the children. Choose something
great for dad!!
Missing a bomber jacket? Missing a windcheater? Missing a shirt? Missing underwear??
The lost property box is overflowing with articles of clothing, many of which are
UNNAMED. Large amounts of clothing are collected from the yard after school each day
and placed in the lost property box outside Room 6 (6U). Please check the box for lost
property, make sure all articles of clothing are named, and ENCOURAGE children to be
responsible for their own belongings.
Yard Duty Supervision
A reminder to all families that teachers are on yard duty from 8.45am each morning
before school and until 3.45pm each afternoon after school. Children should not be
dropped off or left unsupervised in the school yard before or after these times. We
appreciate your support in this supervision and safety of our children. Please reinforce
with your child (particularly some of our older children) that under no circumstances
should they arrive at school and then leave the school grounds to visit the shop. It is
also important that children are aware of their attendance at the Out Of School Hours
Care Program. We can pass on messages which have been phoned through to the office
only if absolutely necessary. It is important to remind some children of their attendance
at the program as they leave home each day!
School Planning / Enrolments 2016
I know it is VERY EARLY but nevertheless planning for 2016 is now well underway. It is
essential that the school is notified of any student in Foundation – Grade 5 who is not
intending to return to Deepdene Primary School in 2016.
If your son or daughter will NOT be returning to the school next year please complete
the attached notice and return to the school office as soon as possible.
Prep / Foundation 2016 Enrolment
If you are currently a member of the school community and have a child ready to
commence school next year please call into the office to book a Foundation enrolment

Staffing News
I wish to acknowledge the outstanding work of Christine Purton in all that she does in
her many roles as Business Manager. Chris has retired from her full time Business
Manager position and is on leave for the remainder of the term. From the beginning of
Term 4 she will continue at the school in a part time administrative capacity. She is
wonderfully supported by the highly valued and skilled Kim Hastings who has taken on
the role of Business Manager and Maureen McInnes (Administration and Personnel). The
highly effective office team contributes significantly to the substantial school
improvements we continue to make and to the everyday running of the school.
I will also be on leave from the end of next week for the remainder of the term and will
return at the beginning of Term 4.

SCHOOL NEWS
Bell Shakespeare Performance On Monday 31
st August 2015, the Grade 3 to 6 students enjoyed a performance of Andy Griffith’s
book, “Just Macbeth” by actors from Bell Shakespeare. It was certainly very entertaining and a
perfect introduction to Shakespeare for primary students.
Book Week Parade Both Literacy Week and Book Week were also celebrated with a Book Character Dress-Up Day
and Parade on Wednesday 2nd
September 2015. It was certainly wonderful to see both familiar
and not so familiar book characters wondering around the school all day. A huge thank you to
Nanette, Harry and the library monitors, Max and Quinn for hosting the event and to all the
teachers and students who dressed up.
