Assembly Thank you to the students from Room 11, Mrs Chisholm and
Mrs Lock for their wonderful Harmony Day assembly last Friday. It was a great
start to our Harmony Day celebrations.
Thank you also to Miranda Melbin, Room 11 Class Coordinator, for organising
morning tea for those who were able to stay behind.
Tomorrow’s assembly will be hosted by Room 15. Please note there will be no
assembly on Friday, 5th April and 12th April as students will be attending
swimming lessons.
Harmony Day A HUGE THANK YOU must go out to everyone in our wonderful school
community for ensuring that this year’s Harmony Day was such a success. Every
year, I don’t think it can get any better and then it does – WOW! I was so
impressed with the way that we all celebrated our different backgrounds through
music, food, dance, craft, leisure activities and cultural experiences, to name just a
few of the activities that happened on Friday. I was so proud of the students who
volunteered to run an activity that highlighted their background and grateful to the
parents, grandparents and friends who came forward to run activities and serve the
amazing variety of delightful foods. Days such as this illustrate, in the best
possible way, what an awesome school we have and that everyone plays an
important part in making it a great school. Thank you! (Please see page 4 for
photos.)
Swimming Swimming commences next Monday, 1st April for all students from Pre-Primary -
Year 6. Did you know that swimming lessons are provided FREE for your child!
The only costs involved are the pool entry and the bus transport. Ensuring your
child is safe around water is of utmost importance.
Forms and money were due back yesterday and unfortunately students who have
not returned forms by next Monday morning and paid, or organised to pay daily,
will be unable to attend.
Please make sure all items of clothing, (including towels, goggles, etc) have your
child’s name on them. Spray on deodorant is not permitted due to safety concerns.
If your child needs a deodorant, a roll-on is acceptable.

Sponsorship of our Dance, Band and Choir I would like to thank Andy Huynh, one of our parents, but also the owner of the Ida St Supermarket and Walter’s
Delight for kindly offering to once again sponsor our choir this year. Andy is a fantastic support to our school and
we hope you will in turn, support him by shopping at his stores.
We are still hoping to find other sponsors to help us provide each child in our band and dance group with a t-shirt
with the group's name on it along with other costume items as required. We attempt to provide these at no cost to
their families and as such seek sponsorship from a local business or family. If you are able to assist or know of a
local group or company that may be keen to, please let us know. Please see Mrs Spencer, Mrs Andrews or Mrs Miell
if you are interested or require more information.
Happy Feet Frenzy Festival On Friday, 15th March, students of Eden Hill
PS participated in the Happy Feet Frenzy
Festival. The students thoroughly enjoyed
boarding the Transperth Bus, learning about
sustainable ways to travel and Bike Education
classes. Constable Care also made an
appearance much to the Junior school’s delight.
The most popular event by far, was the
skateboarding demonstration which allowed
the students to learn some new tricks. Thank
you to the Town of Bassendean Your Move
program for helping organise this amazing
afternoon, which was enjoyed by all.
Mrs Freind and Ms Durkin
I would like to thank Mrs Freind and
Ms Durkin for coordinating this amazing day.
It involved a lot of preparation. Everyone had
a most enjoyable afternoon and I was thrilled
when at the end of the day every one of the
visitors came to me and commented on the
fabulous behaviour of our students. In fact, the
people running the skateboarding told me that
our school was “THE BEST” school they had
ever worked with! I am so proud of you all –
well done!
As we have swimming lessons in the last 2 weeks of term, there will be no assembly. Therefore, the tickets will be
drawn by Mrs Wood on Friday 12th April, and baskets will be delivered to the winners in their classroom.
Thanks again for your support & we look forward to seeing those donations coming in very soon.
Much appreciated!

Bullying This is the next article in our series on Bullying.
Talking with your children about being bullied
Many children who are bullied do not tell a trusted adult as they
think they are dobbing.
‘Dobbing’ is when a person deliberately tries to get attention or
to get someone else into trouble.
‘Asking for help’ is when someone feels the situation is out of
his/her control and he/she is unable to deal with it alone. If
anyone sees someone else in this situation they should also ask
for help.
What are students being taught at school to help them deal
with bullying situations?
All students at our school are being taught that:
When I have a problem I can:
• Try to stand up for myself in a positive way
• Try to talk with the person I am having a problem with
• Walk away and ignore the person completely
• Get help from a teacher or another person I trust
• Ignore the situation and keep playing or working
• Talk to a friend to get some ideas to help me make a decision
or
• Try coming to an agreement with the other person.
You can reinforce these messages by discussing them with your
children at home.

Chaplains Chatter Some time ago I heard an interview with Ingrid Betancourt, who was kidnapped and held prisoner for over six years in
the Colombian Jungle. Here is a small excerpt from that interview…
“We have a responsibility for the world we are living in and we are convinced that we are what we are and we cannot
change and guess what, we can change who we are. That’s what I discovered in the
jungle. In the jungle I was confronted with the worst parts of myself… selfishness,
greediness, ego. That’s what I was confronted with in that extreme situation. Before I
thought that we needed to change the laws, and then I thought we needed to change the
leaders and today I am convinced that we need to change ourselves.”
This woman discovered that personal accountability and responsibility are paramount to
making the world a better place to live in. Hopefully none of us have to go through a
similar experience to come to this same conclusion. Hopefully we can learn from other
peoples experience and teach our children this same truth, so that we are able to make
the world a better place. In our school, in our community, city, state, country and in the
wider world, change starts with a single person.

Headphones Found A pair of headphones have been found near the
school. They can be collected from the school
office if you think they may be yours, and you can
verify the make and type.
Sand Pit Toys Needed If you have any unwanted items suitable for sand pit play, such as trucks, sieves, scoops, buckets etc we would greatly
appreciate you donating them to the school for students to play with. Please place items in the crate outside Room 14.
Year One Room 17
In Science, we are doing a unit of work called Spot the Difference. The students are investigating how materials can physically change due to
different processes, such as heating and cooling.
We are enjoying combining with the Year Ones from Room 16 each
Thursday afternoon.
We have investigated the properties of spaghetti cooked and uncooked.
We made spaghetti pictures with the cooked spaghetti
We made towers with the uncooked spaghetti
