Chi State Convention This Week!
The Chi State Convention isjust around the corner. As
everyone knows, Beta Deltaoffers a $100 stipend for thosemembers who attend. Pleasekeep a copy of your canceledcheck for reimbursement.
The bulk of the Conventionhappens on Saturday, with afull day beginning at 8:00 am.
Plan to arrive in Burbank
before the General Session I
at 7:00 pm on Friday Night.There are workshops offered
beginning at 2:30 pm.Below is the Schedule at aGlance to help you plan yourexciting weekend. Thesessions are described in thismonths Chi State News.

Celebrating Sisterhood! by Pamela, 1st VP
Our 2013 Initiation sospecial! April 1 was a wonderfulevent at the Landing Restaurant,
filled with love, hope, support, andof course, a little extra noise! Butas all good educators do, we takeeverything in stride and make themost of every opportunity. Werocked and rolled right along withthe music and brought in our newmembers Xye, Joyce, Suzie, Cathy,Andrea, and Shirley!
It was a fun evening - andgee, wasn't the food great? Thanks
to team B for their planning! Lizwas our official photographer forthe event and her wonderful photosare on our Facebook page as wellas our Big Tent site.
We continue to grow and

chapter.We have another trulyexciting event on the nearhorizon - the 2013 Chi Stateconvention at the BurbankAirport Marriott, May 3-5. Ifyou have attended in the past,you know how great theweekend is - if you haven't, try itout. There is lots of spirit andcamaraderie...lots to learn and
share and just plain enjoy!This year's theme is"Celebrating the Bounty ofExcellence." From volunteeringfor the store to singing in thechoir, the Order of the Rose to
the Celebration of Life, there islaughter and tears and joy andsadness (along with some
business, naturally). It is also achance to meet old friends andnew! Come along!
Then, of course, wehave our own monthly meetingon May 6 at Chavez MiddleSchool. We will be honoringthe recipients of this year'sscholarships and grants. SeeDot Selvaggio's scholarshipcommittee report in this

Sue Andrew (2nd grade):Item: Worm Bin 6x2, $750.00
Purpose: Teach students about the science ofdecomposition and work towards creating a zerowaste school. Students currently collect all theirlunchtime food scraps and compost them. Therich compost is then used in the school garden
plot.
Jackie Wells (Special Education 2-6):Item: Susan Barton Reading and SpellingSystem Levels 6 and 7, $660.00
Purpose: To use the Susan Barton ReadingProgram to service at risk students with readingdifficulties and ensure student success.
Two from Cardiff Schools:
Jayne Hartman (Speech and Language Specialist):Item: iPAD4, $540.00
Purpose: Used to facilitate communication fornonverbal students and those with limited orallanguage abilities. Students with hearingimpairments benefit from material presented inamplified manner provided with a colorful visual
presentation. The iPAD provides light touch accessfor students with fine and gross motor limitations.
Cindy Switzler (3rd grade):

Purpose: To be used during a class production.Two third grade classrooms are performing RATS!The leads need to be micd. The Shure WH20 is arugged, lightweight, dynamic headset microphonethat provides high-quality voice pickup.
