In life, we are often so focused on the journey that we fail to see the beauty around us as we go. It’s like we are shackled with tunnel vision that sees the immediate obstacles or successes, but fails to enjoy what is around us. For us as parents, sometimes the busyness of working, running a household, helping our children with homework or taking them to a never ending list of sporting and social events, means that we fail to have the time to simply sit and watch and enjoy the miracle of parenthood. When you add in the normal issues of life like illness, unemployment, or relationships, it can sometimes be overwhelming. In life, the mountains on our journey may sometimes seem insurmountable, but every mountain has a spectacular view. As you climb, there are the meadows that are sprinkled with flowers, raging waterfalls, gentle streams, or valleys that are breathtakingly shrouded in mist. Sure, there are the moments when we have to use everything we have to not stumble on the rocky ground or to grip tightly to a cliff edge, but these periods, when passed, can often offer us an amazing insight into a new vision for the future or hope of what tomorrow may bring. These times are also when we see our character grow and strengthen - and we are fitter, more capable, and better equipped for life as a result. They can be moments of great value in terms of us reaching our ultimate potential. But we need to lift our eyes. In doing so we can see the God-given blessings along the way, but most of all, see God walking alongside us. He is there to offer his hand to prevent us from stumbling and to catch every tear. Likewise, he is there to enjoy the moments of blessing with us and delight in our joy. So, I challenge us all to lift our eyes. To lift our heads to see the breathtaking scenery we are passing. To turn our eyes heavenward to see the handiwork of the one who walks the journey with us. In life, we are often so focused on the journey that we fail to

see the beauty around us as we go.

Sure, there are the moments when we have to use everything we have to not stumble on the rocky ground or to grip tightly to a cliff

edge, but these periods, when passed, can often offer us an amazing insight into a new vision for the future or hope of what tomorrow may bring.

Around the CollegeForgot Lunch? With the canteen requiring a strict deadline to ensure it can deliver meals on time, it is important to remind parents that if you child forgets to order their lunch, or forgets to bring their lunch to school, they will be given an Up and Go drink and an apple. Parents will then be charged $1.80 for these items and will receive a note requesting payment. This policy has been in place for sometime, and provides students with the guarantee of something to eat, as well as an incentive not to forget in the future. Please be aware of this process and encourage your children to be vigilant with ordering food items in a timely manner, or ensuring lunch makes it from the kitchen counter to the school bag. Thank you!

Lost any crown jewels?Well, maybe not that grand, but we do have a collection of unclaimed jewellery in the front office that needs a home. If

you have lost something of value and can describe it correctly, we would love to return such items to you. Our resident protectors of all things valuable (AKA the front office ladies) await your visit!

Specialising in Hockey?Aamir Zafar (ex Olympian, Pakistan) is offering specialised hockey coaching in Busselton for individuals and small groups. Aamir coached Pakistan’s national hockey teams and ran advanced level coaching academies in Pakistan for 5 years before making his home in Busselton. If you are interested, call Aamir Zafar mob: 0497 385 384.

So, sew?Are there any mums (or dads) who would like to do some occasional sewing (or hemming) of uniform items for other families? Michelle Shipton, our Uniform Manager, sometimes has mums who don’t know how to take hems up and believes it would be great to have

someone on hand who is happy to make a little extra money by offering a service like this. Please talk to Michelle if you are interested.

Dunsborough, we have lift-off.Last Sunday, a crowd of Cornerstone staff, families, board directors and members of the Dunsborough church community and Cornerstone Church of Christ, gathered together to celebrate the ground breaking of our Dunsborough site.We are so grateful for God’s amazing provision of this simply beautiful parcel of land, and can’t wait to see what he has in store for Cornerstone and the Dunsborough community in the future.Thank you to those who came and shared with us on this special occasion, and helped us pray for God’s blessing over the land, the ministry and the future of Cornerstone Christian College.

If frozen water is iced water and if frozen lemonade is iced lemonade.

What’s frozen ink?

Iced ink. (I stink!)

What typing method do you use? Hunt and Peck, or the Biblical method (Seek and you shall find)? Touch typing is a skill that is more and more required in so many areas of life - both study and work - but is one that is not recognised in the Australian Curriculum we need to cover during school hours. So, this is one of those moments where partnership with parents can shine! We would encourage families to invest in some time in helping their children begin to navigate the world of online learning with touch-typing. It’s not mandatory, but if taken on board, could very much assist your child as they enter the senior years of school, and then university or the workforce.Miss Needham, our Careers Coordinator has taught typing in the past, and she has recommended a great website. www.typingweb.com which is among the best free resources that can be found online. There are lots of other options you can look at, as well as purchasable products, but her recommended site is free and really useful. You will need to look past what seems like a boring or bland system - the repetitive nature is what will teach your child the basics. As fun as games for teaching can be, the long term learning with typing needs repetition.Miss Needham also recommends that you cover your child’s hands with a tea towel whilst using the program. It stops the temptation of them looking at their hands and not teaching their minds the skills they need.

So, it’s time to get typing!

The Year 11/12 ATAR Outdoor Education class, consisting of 14 students and supervised by Mrs Haagensen and Mr Spencer, recently spent 4 days at Broke Inlet in Walpole. When asked what the highlights were, Mr Spencer said the following:‘Bushfires (DPAW burn off); exploring islands; campfires; catching herring barehanded, (almost Salmon) hanging weather conditions blue skies, huge cold fronts, tent pole snapping winds.’Fantastic experience for everyone involved!

Uniform SurveyWith the introduction of a new College logo and addition of the Dunsborough campus, a uniform committee was formed in 2014 to review the current Cornerstone Christian College uniform. The intention is to identify if both the High School and Primary School have items that are practical, economical and necessary and to ensure it is in keeping with the College ethos.

Marketing research indicates that the school colours (red, grey, black and white) are synonymous with the college in the wider community and it is not advisable to change uniform colours. A distinct change of colours is therefore not part of this review.

We would like to invite you to share your families opinion about our current uniform by filling out the following survey. The uniform policy will also be updated to reflect the college mission statement and will address any raised issues. Any changes to the uniform will be phased in over a period of 18-24 months. It is anticipated that there will not be any significant changes.

If you could please complete the following survey by Tuesday the 2nd of June 2015 it would help give us a valuable direction with which to continue working through the options available to us at this time.

You can find the survey on the College facebook page, via the new skoolbag App, or by following this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/?sm=heqVG5zaoDw4E1cVrKtRVw%3d%3d

Around the College continued....

Your Smartphone can help you keep up to date with the latest happenings at the College, read the newsletter or see what is coming up next. Search for our school name in the App Store or in Google Play and download the App today!

BookfairBook fair starts tomorrow, and will continue through to Wednesday 3rd June. This is a great event which promotes the joy of reading and the children really love the opportunity to buy books. Children have had the timetable for class viewings sent home already, and this provides a full set of details, times and instructions with how the process of viewing and purchasing will occur.Effectively, the library will be open to purchase books AFTER school or during class allocated times. It will be closed over lunch time and before school. We look forward to helping your children celebrate the joy of reading with this really special way of building up the libraries in homes and also the College.

Visitors on CampusPlease remember, that if you are on campus that you need to be signed in.This is so that we can be assured of the safety of every one of our students by being aware of who is on site, as well as for your own should an emergency arise whilst you are on the College grounds.

VolunteeringDon’t forget that there are so many ways you can partner with us in the education of

your kids. From the library, to the canteen, and classroom assistance or carnivals. We just love having parents on site! If any grandparents wish to help, that’s fabulous too! For grandparents or members of the community they just require a Working With Children’s Card supplied - which we can help with if you need it. Come and join us!

When planning lunch boxes and meals, buy a variety of coloured vegetables and fruits. Eating a variety of colours ensures you are consuming many vitamins and minerals. If you eat your fruits and vegetables raw, you also get a good dose of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps to strengthen the immune system and prevent coughs and colds developing. So for good health, create a plate filled with the colours of the rainbow.
