New Van Laar Instruments: Quarter-tone B♭ Trumpet · High B♭ /A Piccolo Trumpet We are delighted to note from the number of hits that very many of our friends have visited our new website, which has been online since 18 August 2008. We have developed two new instruments: the High B♭/A Piccolo Trumpet and the new four-valve Quarter-tone B♭ Trumpet. The Piccolo Trumpet is primarily used in classical music, but is also favoured by jazz and studio musicians. Perhaps the best-known demonstration of its sound is to be heard in the trumpet solo in the Beatles’ hit Penny Lane. The Quarter-tone Trumpet is most notably used in Arabian music. The response was excellent, with visitors coming not only from Sweden but also from Norway and Finland. www.brass-spec.se/products/lists/Trumpeter May 2008 saw the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) conference in Banff, in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, where Hub Van Laar instruments were exhibited. It was a great pleasure for us to meet with old friends and make new acquaintances. Once again we will be present at this year’s ITG conference, which is being held from 26 – 30 May in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (USA). Finland At the beginning of March we packed our bags and flew to Finland to exhibit our trumpets and flugelhorns. We were delighted at the positive response from numerous trumpeters and would like to thank Soitin Laine of Helsinki for their wonderful hospitality.
