This term EC4EC4EC4EC4 have been learning about pets. Many of the children have been bringing in their pets to show to the class. This week we were lucky to have

Dr Steph Draper from Swan Vets come and visit the children, she even brought her

own dog in so the children could listen to her heartbeat. The children were so happy

when the vet gave us items to put in our vet corner including vet gloves and scrubs.

The children asked the vet many questions such as:

Eden asked "Why did you want to be a vet?"

Kayd asked "How did you become a vet?" and

Demi asked "What's the biggest pet you've ever looked after?"

The children learnt a lot from Dr Steph and we are very thankful for her visit.

On the 5th of August, Musica Viva visited Castletown Primary School for an

exciting performance full of laughs, music and multimedia. During the show the Amanaska selected students to participate by playing instruments and singing.

Anna (Room 00) commented on the way that Simon explained what multimedia is and how it is combined with musical instruments to create a story. Anna also commented that she liked the way the band members interacted with the students and let the kids participate in creating a song.

Payden (Room 00) commented on how they used free software and encouraged students to get the software and create their own songs. He also liked how they gave the kids that participated in creating music prizes from the sponsors.

Throughout the show the group did demonstrations of their music, what instruments are used and what they sound like. Amanaska taught the students about wave forms and how the louder the sound the bigger the wave, in a visual way.

It was a very entertaining morning for all students at Castletown Primary, and we recommend all schools see Amanaska.

THE VIRTUES PROJECT THE VIRTUES PROJECT THE VIRTUES PROJECT THE VIRTUES PROJECT –––– PERSEVERANCEPERSEVERANCEPERSEVERANCEPERSEVERANCE

WHAT IS PERSEVERANCE?WHAT IS PERSEVERANCE?WHAT IS PERSEVERANCE?WHAT IS PERSEVERANCE?

Perseverance Perseverance Perseverance Perseverance is being purposeful and steadfast. It is sticking to something, staying committed, no matter

how long it takes or what obstacles appear to stop you. A good example is the story of the tortoise and the

hare. Even though the tortoise was slower than the hare, he won the race because he persevered – he didn’t

let anything stop him or distract him. He kept on going.

WHY PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?WHY PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?WHY PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?WHY PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?

Without perseverance, people give up on things easily. They don’t keep their promises. When we persevere,

people can depend on us to finish what we start and to keep our commitments. When we persevere, we stay

friends even when the friendship is tested. We don’t give up until a problem is solved.

HOW DO YOU PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?HOW DO YOU PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?HOW DO YOU PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?HOW DO YOU PRACTISE PERSEVERANCE?

You practise perseverance by committing to someone or something. Choose your commitments wisely and

then stick with them. When you commit to a task, pace yourself and be persistent, doing it step-by-step.

Stand by your friends even when they aren’t much fun, or are having a hard time. When trouble or doubts

come up, be like a strong ship in a storm. Don’t let yourself become battered or blown off course. Just ride

the waves.

SIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESS

• Think before deciding to commit to someone or something

• Pace yourself

• Set goals and stick with them until they are completed

• Take one step at a time, remaining steady

• Don’t let doubts or tests blow you off course

• Stand by your friends and loved ones

• See movement as an opportunity not an inconvenience

• Walk or ride to school

• Use the stairs

• Encourage active play
