Back in college I took a course on AI. By the end of the first week, it was clear that my natural intelli-gence did not care much for its artificial counter-part. I dropped the course and never gave it another thought. As they say, one can run but one can’t hide! Prodigious quantities of data, it turns out, naturally leads to the creation of “smarter” machines and onwards to machines that can learn. If we think that we are still far from encountering AI in our daily lives, we are a befuddled, data-addled, ignorant lot! A robotic butler may still be science fiction, but we have already made contact with AI.

Airbnb has Aerosolve – gives pricing tips. Amazon has Amazon Machine Learning – analytics with massive data sets. Expert Personal Shopper (XPS) provides personalized shopping experience. IPSoft has Amelia – a “virtual service-desk employee” deployed from the cloud. Google is catching up with Cloud Machine Learning promising “deep learn-ing techniques” The “AI-as-a-service” cloud makes the technology accessible to small busi-nesses in a cost effective, efficient manner. DAMA Chicago Meeting—April 27th, 2016 Agenda & Speakers

Morning Presentation

Afternoon Presentation

TOPIC: Cloud Technologies & Governance The cloud is not the future of enterprise computing: it’s the NOW of enterprise computing. We are in the midst of a data awareness renaissance, and our organizations are demanding that we build analytics capabilities to drive future success. Cloud technologies are part of the answer, but to fully re-spond to these challenges we need to bring new mindsets and techniques to data management. It’s up to us data professionals to bring these capabilities to our businesses. If your business is not already there, it needs to be. We will cover data terms such as Internet of Things; Why the cloud makes some new things possible, many things easier, and a few things much harder – and how we need to adapt our data management practices in response ; Why business impact is the only thing that really matters; What all this means for business as usual, and how to build a high-performance organization driven by data in the cloud Speaker Bio: Anthony Algmin Anthony J. Algmin helps businesses use data to get better at what

they do. He is currently the Chief Data Architect at Uturn Data Solu-

tions, a company specializing in helping businesses move to the

cloud.

Previously, Anthony was the Chicago Transit Authority's first Chief

Data Officer, developing data analytics capabilities to help the CTA

improve transit services for millions of Chicagoans.

His early career was in the capital markets industry, performing

technical and management roles to improve business performance

with data and analytics. Anthony frequently speaks at national and local events, and contributes

to the data governance and data management communities. He has

MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern Universi-

ty.

TOPIC: Turning Technologists into Turkeys

A light hearted look at thought and communication processes

using the power of silly analogies and psychology. This

presentation combines aspects of leadership principles from

W. Edwards Deming, process management from Alec Sharp

and more to create a practical guide at re-examining your

thoughts and relationships in the workplace.

Speaker Bio: David Blackfield David Blackfield has been a developer, systems analyst and data modeler for Allstate Insurance’s Data Warehouse for 8 years. In addition to his degree in Information Technology he has a minor in Psychology focusing on relationship dynamics.

TOPIC: Big Data Management Demystified Big Data is everywhere! There isn’t an IT publica-tion, blog or online newsletter that doesn’t have Big Data as its most talked about item. More im-portantly all of our C-Level executives are talking about it and demanding that we do it. The problem we face is that these same executives do not even know what Big Data is or the astro-nomically high failure rates that these massive pro-jects are experiencing. This keynote address will provide the statistics on Big Data failures and a top 10 list of what all Big Data project need to avoid if they are going to be successful.

Discussions include - Introduction – an Overview of Big Data Fundamental Big Data Definitions Is Big Data Successful? Actual Big Data Failure Rates Big Data Top 10 List of what NOT to do

Speaker Bio: David Marco Best known as the world’s foremost authority on meta data management and the father of the Managed Meta Data Environment, David is an internationally recog-nized expert in the fields of master data management, data governance, big data, data warehousing and enter-prise information management (EIM). He is president of EWSolutions (EWSolutions.com. ) In 2008 David Marco was enshrined into the very select DAMA Data Management Hall of Fame (Professional Achievement Award) which is the highest honor a data management professional can attain.
