Newsletter designers against aids January - May 2015TRANSCRIPT
Hi there DAA friends!
In the first half of 2015 Designers Against Aids again organized
lots of exciting projects with the aim to raise awareness about
HIV/AIDS among young people all over the world. With this
newsletter we keep you posted on all the activities we do all
around the world! This year has been quite busy: we’ve been
doing great projects such as the collaboration with Jean Paul
Gaultier and Eastpak, we worked together with Marc Jacobs,
we launched a few campaigns, we added a new collection to
our webshop, started with our workshops in Bali for the
project: ‘Asia against Aids – Back To Zero: Indonesia’ and much
more!
Besides the projects we’ve kept every single one of you
updated on our website and in our other social media channels
about our activities, news about HIV, celebrities and of course
about young people and safe sex. A new year also asks for new
initiatives. We decided to get active on a new social media
platform, named Fabusco. We will use Fabusco to sell our DAA
products, next to our other webshops. Another big event at
DAA was our stocksale at Coffeelabs, where we sold our
designer and vintage clothes and accessories. We feel this is
just a start of a very exciting future, educating youth worldwide
the DAA way. We continue to guide and inform young people.
Not only about (safe) sex, but about different aspects of what
leading a healthy life means. A healthy person will be a happy
person and will lead one hell of a happy life. We hope you’ll
enjoy reading about our journey and thank you for all the
support you give to us. It really means a lot.

Limited Edition Bags By Jean Paul Gaultier For Eastpak And DAA
It began with a single bag: Jean Paul Gaultier's unique creation for the fourth
edition of Eastpak Artist Studio in support of Designers Against AIDS (DAA). Now,
that first encounter has grown into something even bigger: a full collection of
limited edition and main collection bags. All inspired by iconic Jean-Paul Gaultier
looks: Pilot, Biker, Bomber and Denim.
"I think the condom is the greatest piece of clothing ever invented
and my message to everyone is "Protect yourself!". I have been
involved in the fight against AIDS for many years now and will
continue to do so for as long as I am needed."
–Jean Paul Gaultier-
We thank Mr Gaultier and Eastpak from the bottom of our heart for this
wonderful partnership.

The Safe Sex Campaign ‘50 Shades Of Safe’
Like every year, Designers against AIDS creates an online campaign for Valentine's
Day that aims to raise awareness around safe sex and HIV among young (and young
at heart) people. This year DAA came up with the idea to do something with 'Fifty
Shades of Grey', the hotly anticipated movie that will be in a cinema near you soon.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, 'Fifty Shades of Grey' stars Jamie Dornan as
Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele.
Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Cara Delevingne
for Marc Jacobs, LOVE Magazine and Designers Against Aids
Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski
and Cara Delevingne worked together with
Marc Jacobs and LOVE magazine to support
Designers Against Aids by selling T-shirts
featuring their images and putting updates
about the event on all their social media. And
boy, did they support us!
The girls all had a picture made together with
the dog of Marc Jacobs, while wearing a T-
shirt with their faces or bodies on it. These
pictures became a true hit online. They were
featured on the Instagram of Love Magazine,
the girls' pages, Marc Jacob's, his dogs and all
their fans. There were articles in newspapers
like ‘De Standaard’, ‘Gazet van Antwerpen’
and ‘Nieuwsblad’ and on sites like ‘Glamour
NL’, ELLE (BE & NL), ‘The Daily Mail’, ‘I Love
Fashion News’ and ‘The DiSHH’. On top of
that, the pictures were spread across Twitter.

DAA Campaign: Protect Yourself!
With this campaign Designers Against
Aids wants to make people aware of
the fact that they should always try to
be safe, but that there are other ways
to do it than the ways that they usually
use to keep safe (think about a
sunblock or sunglasses).
The campaign has 3 images, each of
them with a woman who is protecting
herself from something. The hand
appearing on the right side of the
picture tells the woman that there are
other ways to protect yourself, for
example by using a condom.
April
DAA Supports HIV With A Selfie
On the 10th of April it was National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD).
NYHAAD tries to acknowledge the needs of young people with HIV and AIDS. Each
year, young activists in high schools and at colleges and universities will use this day
to organize and educate about HIV and AIDS. Today’s young people are the first
generation who have never known a world without HIV and AIDS. Every month,
1.000 young people are infected with HIV and over 76.400 young people are
currently living with HIV across the country.
Designers against AIDS wanted to support National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
and did this by asking people via social media to take a selfie with a personalized
message about HIV and post it on Instagram (#designersagainstaids),
Twitter (@DAA) or/and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/designersagainstaids) on
the 10th of April. By sharing these pictures people express their commitment to an
AIDS-free generation.
Shop DAA On Fabusco
April was the month that Designers
against Aids went active on the
website ‘Fabusco’. Some of you may
think FABWHAT?! And that is not
that strange, as Fabusco is still a
very young website! Fabusco’s
concept started from a simple fact:
every morning you wake up
wondering what to wear, spending
hours in front of a closet full of
clothes. No one to help, what do you
do? Snap a pic, send it to your
friends or share your style on
Fabusco with a community to get
inspired by people from around the
world. On Fabusco, the social
community of women in everyday life
is sharing their styles through
pictures they upload onto the
platform named Fabusco. This
process creates inspiration for other
users and generates desire to wear
similar looks. Fabusco makes life
easier for their community giving
them the opportunity to buy their
favorite outfits directly from our
platform.
We love this concept and therefore
started with uploading DAA clothes
on Fabusco. The fun thing about
Fabusco is that retailers can link their
clothes to outfits people posted. In
this way Fabusco visitors can search
their favorite items and then buy
similar pieces directly on Fabusco.

Designers Against Aids Stocksale @ Coffeelabs
In April Designers Against
Aids organized a
stocksale at Coffeelabs in Antwerp, Belgium.
People could buy our
designer and vintage
clothes for a good price.
The event took place at
Coffeelabs, which is a
very cosy place to shop
and of course could
people afterwards enjoy
the great food and drinks.
May
New Bruno Pieters Pieces In Our Online Store
For the second time Bruno
Pieters donated pieces from his
collections to Designers Against
Aids. Designers Against Aids did
a photoshoot and is since the
beginning of May available on
the DAA charity store.
Franz Ferdinand Auctions Iconic Jacket And Shoes For DAA
The British band Franz Ferdinand auctioned off an iconic leather jacket (worn in a
video clip) and a pair of studded Miu Miu shoes to benefit DAA live on fashion
platform Hardly Ever Worn It and they also recorded a video where they ask their
fans to support us!
We shared the auction on our social media and tweeted it to Radio and TV station
MNM and JIM TV. We also promoted the jacket and shoes in the Facebook fanpages
of Franz Ferdinand.
Asia against Aids – Back To Zero: Indonesia
Designers Against Aids was in Bali this spring to
organize workshops. With the project ‘Asia
against Aids – Back to Zero : Indonesia’ DAA
wants to reach out to young people with all the
information they need for their sexual
health including what diseases are out
there, symptoms, protecting themselves,
where to get tested, their rights as well as
the support available to them regarding
these matters. DAA translated and made
readily accessible information about
sexual health in Bahasa Indonesia and
wants to focus on training young,
motivated people on how to do
prevention work, with the aim of
employing the best participant to run the
social media platform “Indonesia Against
AIDS” from the Asia office in Sanur, Bali
at the end of the workshop.
The workshop involves a live online campaign for participants to practice and perfect the
execution. The two students Dita and Dila Amalia, students PR and Communication from Jakarta,
are following the workshops. They will learn all there is to know about HIV and safe sex, how to
contact celebrities to ask them to help promote the new platform to their fans, how to share
every new article as much as they can on Indonesia's most popular social media, etc.
The girls went to DAA’s partners at Bali
Kids, a NGO that cares for Bali's
poorest and sickest children- many of
whom lost one or both parents to
HIV/AIDS. We are also helping Bali Kids
with a new HIV/AIDS teaching module
which they will use when visiting
young people in remote areas all over
Bali. Our hope is that these initiatives
aimed at young people will happen all
over Indonesia, Asia and the world
sooner rather than later.
