‘Ology’ Evening: Tuesday at 5.30pm Students have been inspired by the ‘Ology’ series of
books created by Dugald Steer.
They’ve researched and created a book that fits into
this series.
To showcase these creations, we will host an ‘Evening
of Ologies’. We’ll be offering a free cup of soup so bring
along your cup (no cups will be supplied) and enjoy a
pumpkin or potato soup.
Thank you to Ms Currie who is organising this event.

Teams’ Day Fun!
Sydney Opera House Excursion
We had such a fabulous time in Sydney!
- We visited The ANZAC Memorial in Hyde Park and were part of an excellent workshop which
featured a special presentation entitled “War Horse”. It was a very emotional, inspiring and heart-
felt presentation based on the book, ’Loyal Creatures’ by Morris Gleitzman.
- We performed at the Oxford Street Mall.
- We loved swimming and playing at the Aquatic Centre with its waterslides and play equipment.
- We visited The Justice and Police Museum and did a role play about a trial.
We went to The Rocks Discovery Museum and also saw the display of
huge carnivorous plants in the Botanical Gardens.
- We enjoyed out time at Taronga Park Zoo.
- We caught a ferry across Sydney Harbour to Manly Beach and had
lunch there.
- We performed at The Sydney Opera House - the audience went wild!
Happy Birthday, Robert.
Best wishes for a great
day!

TechGirl Challenge WINNERS! Our wonderfully creative Tech Girls have received the news that
they are the NSW Regional champions for their app ‘ReadSmart’.
The team worked lunchtimes and Friday after school for 12
weeks to put together their submission. Essentially they created
a business, marketed and advertised this and then coded an app
ready to upload to the app store. As winners they have been in-
vited to work a little more on their app and compete at an inter-
national level against girls from all over the world. Who knows
what they can achieve and where this could take them? Thank
you to Ms Currie for her amazing work with this!
Education Week Award
Congratulations to Emma who
received an Education Week
Award for her outstanding
environmental contributions to
our school and the wider
community!
Only 1 week until our Spring Fair and we need your help!

in our stalls and Kids Zone on the day.
We also need our fabulous bakers to do some cooking for our cake stall.

This year's Spring Fair craft stall theme is 'Sustainable living' and we'd love to sell donated homemade items that encourage a reduction in plastic use and/or promote upcyling. So if you're a bit crafty or know someone that would like to make something for our stall, here is a list of ideas for items that we would love to sell, to raise money for our school.
Small tote shopping bags. Produce bags sewn from lightweight mesh, muslin or calico (no need for drawstrings). Small crochet cotton dishcloths (double crochet, 5 mm hook). Rice or wheat filled heat packs. Reusable flannelette face or baby wipes. (2 or 3 layers of fabric, sewn together). Felted old wool jumper hot water bottle covers or teapot cosies. Handmade soaps, beauty products or detergents (eco friendly of course). Also potted plants and seedlings would be welcome too!
Please leave your donations at the school office (with name) or give to Margeaux (Will and Wynn's mum - 0429 002 470) by Friday 20th September.
BOOKS/CDs/DVDs Donations are also needed for the book/cd/dvd stall of the
Spring Fair. If you have good quality items that you are
ready to pass on, please donate these to help the school.
Please drop donations off to the school office or contact
Melissa for alternative arrangements.
Spring Fair Art Auction We have some amazing watercolours by Roland Harvey on auction at our
Spring Fair. These works are original paintings that have been used for
popular children’s books, such as the Bonnie and Sam series and Little
Barry Bilby.
If you, or somebody you know, would be interested in purchasing them,
please come along to the Spring Fair and place a bid. Each item will have
a reserve and the bidding will be open all day.
The paintings are at school, so if you would like to take a look, please see
Mr Henderson.
Spring Fair Marimbas The marimba ensemble will be performing
this Saturday at The Spring Fair.
The time slots we have been given are:
9.40-10am;
10.40-11am; and
11.40-12 noon.
The following students have expressed
interest in performing all three sets:
Inda, Indigo, Flynn, Evie, Freya, Ben, Alia,
Tess, Iris, Bowie, Aaishween, Billy, Banjo,
Madison, Rosa, William and Alannah.
Children wear casual clothes.
Some families have already let me know
that their child will be right to perform on
Saturday.
Please let me know (via email, phone, in
person or in a scribbled note!) if your child
will be performing.
Thanks, Genevieve

School Enrolment Policy
Information for Parents
The Enrolment o f Students in NSW Government Schools policy is in place to assist schools to meet
their obligations under the Education Act 1990 - to ensure that every student has a place at their lo-
cal school. The policy also communicates to staff and the community a transparent enrolment pro-
cess. This year there has been amendments to the policy.
Why was the enrolment policy revised?
Across the state, many communities are changing. Some are growing at rates never seen before.
Some schools that used to be able to accept out-of-area enrolments, no longer have the room to do
so.
What are the changes?
The Enrolment Cap
The enrolment cap is the number of students that can be enrolled at a school based on the school’s perma-
nent accommodation. The enrolment cap tells us whether the school may or may not have the capacity to
accept non-local enrolments. It is not a target or limit on the number of local enrolments a school can take.
At Dunoon Public School we have an enrolment cap of 115 students based on our five permanent class-
rooms.
The Enrolment Buffer
Within a school’s enrolment cap, a number of enrolment places (the buffer) must be kept aside for local stu-
dents who may enrol during the year. For this reason, a school will not accept non-local students once they
reach their buffer, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Based on historical enrolment trends, the school’s buffer is currently set at 100 students.
As Dunoon Public School’s current enrolment is 85 (and hence not near the enrolment cap set for it), we are
in a position to accept any non-local enrolments that may come to us.
The Enrolment of Siblings
It is important to note that if this school enrols an out-of-area student, it DOES NOT guarantee the future en-
rolment of his or her siblings. If at the time we are not near the buffer, siblings should be able to be enrolled. If
the school is nearing its buffer, the enrolment panel will consider the enrolment, with priority given to them. If
the school has reached its enrolment cap it will not be able to accept non-local enrolment applications unless
there are exceptional circumstances.
It is important to reiterate that the enrolment cap does not impact on the number of local students that can be
enrolled at our school. Dunoon Public School will continue to enrol students who live in our local intake area,
regardless of the school’s cap status.
For further information, please see the following pages for the Enrolment Policy - Information for Parents or
make an appointment to speak with Genevieve Slocombe, Dunoon Public School.
