We greatly appreciate the dedicaon of our ECOL members who have come aboard the project and are giving their me as facilitators. This targeted community acon will help meet the need of the English- speaking community of the region to receive health services in their language. There is a lot of interest for the acvity and many people signed up. Currently, four discussion groups are taking place in the region: De Lanaudière Hospital in Joliee, Pierre Le Gardeur Hospital in Terrebonne and the CLSC of Chertsey. This new activity is offered to the staff of the health and social services center of Lanaudière. (CISSSL)

The project is carried out by ECOL, in collaboration with the CISSSL. Our

team of volunteer facilitators from the English-speaking community of

Lanaudière provide support to participants so that they may strengthen

their English skills and increase their confidence in English conversation.

We greatly appreciate the dedication of our ECOL members who have

come aboard the project and are giving their time as facilitators.

This targeted community action will

speaking community of the region to

language. There is a lot of interest for

Rawdon Wellness Center Activity Schedule

The English Community Organization of Lanaudière welcomes all (members & non-members) to pass by our Wellness Center situated at Christ Church Hall, 3569 Metcalfe Street, Rawdon, every Tuesday from 9:00 – 12:00 a.m. Refreshments are served, documentation is available to browse and take home, or stay and participate in an interesting choice of health related topics and fun activities. *Please note that even if one of our structured activities should be cancelled, the Wellness Centre will remain open.

November 6th The Unsung Heros of the Battle of the Atlantic –

Canada’s Merchant Navy

As part of Remembrance Week, please join us for the story of the longest and hardest battles ever fought and the brave

sailors that sacrificed their lives to ensure that Britain and her allies got the vital supplies they needed, or face defeat, in the Second World War.

November 13th Seniors and Taxation

Presented by Revenue Quebec, the provincial tax benefits related to seniors

will be discussed, along with the major changes this year for caregivers. Chartered Accountant Merle Parkinson will also be on hand to clarify and answer your questions on what it all means for you.

November 20th Arthritis – What’s New?

Community Health Education Video One in six adult Canadians has arthritis: more than 7.5 million people. Come and find out how to preserve your joints and what’s new in research and treatment options.

November 27th The Importance of Good Foot Care

Most people take their feet for granted, until pain or problems develop. This can directly impact your quality of life and the ability to perform your daily activities and stay active. Join podiatrist Colette Gauthier, as she presents the many forms of foot conditions and how to treat and prevent them, especially if you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or arthritis.

December 4th Éconologis Energy Efficiency Program

Éconologis is an energy efficiency program for low-income households, which allows you to take advantage of free individualized advice by an energy efficiency advisor, plus

the installation of electronic thermostats. Find out if you may be

eligible, along with the numerous ways you can improve the comfort level in your own home to help reduce your environmental footprint - and save money!

December 11th Homemade Tourtière

Join Alanna for the making of some traditional tourtière for the holiday season. People will take home an uncooked pie for freezing or baking. Please contact Diane if you are planning to attend at 450-421-5929.

December 18th Video - The History of Christmas

Join us for a look back at the history of Christmas traditions: a holiday that started in pagan Rome, became the centerpiece of the Christian year and has since transformed into commercialism. People are welcome to bring in some holiday

treats, as we celebrate the last day of our Wellness Center

activities for 2018. December 18th is our last day of activities.

We will be starting up again on the 8th of January 2019.

November is MOVEMBER!

Movember is an annual event during which many men grow mustaches to raise funds for and awareness of men’s health issues like prostate and testicular cancer, among others. Mascouche Wellness Center activities

We welcome all members and non-members to take part in our Wellness Center activities, Thursdays, from 1:00 – 3:30 pm. We are situated at the Chez Nous du Communautaire, 2500 Boul. Mascouche, in Room 206 unless otherwise indicated. Refreshments are served, documentation is available to browse and take home, or stay and participate in an interesting choice of health-related topics and fun discussion.

Pillars of a Healthy Brain A Cummings Center virtual learning video with neuroscientist Dr. Tiffany Chow, who will be talking about the six

pillars and the importance of building “Cognitive Reserve” to help stave off the effects of memory loss in later life.

November 8th

Talking About Prostate Cancer

It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and is completely curable when detected at an early stage. Hence the importance of screening, as your risk of developing prostate cancer rises as you grow older. In Quebec, 12 men are diagnosed daily. Please join us as we present a video presentation from PROCURE with Dr. Fred Saad, professor & Chief of Urology at the CHUM, as he explains the risk factors, signs & symptoms, screening, (PSA test) and the latest treatment options.

Before you reach for that bottled water, perhaps you should think about some of the issues that will be revealed in this documentary presentation and the W5 investigation into the exploitation of our most precious resource – water. Join us to understand how huge corporations, worldwide are pumping millions of litres out of groundwater practically for free, then selling it back to us in plastic bottles.

November 22nd Zumba Gold

Join Shari Gallagher for a fun-filled exercise session of Zumba for Seniors to some upbeat Latin tunes. It may also be done seated. Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended.

November 29th The History of Mascouche

English settlers in Mascouche played an important role in the growth & development of their community. Please join us for the very first presentation in English, to be done by Sylvie Gagnon from SODAM (Mascouche Historical Society).

Drums have been used in every culture since ancient times. The vibrations connecting with the heartbeat can have positive effects on your health as modern research has shown.

Join Conrad Popko from Radorbis, as he leads us in a drumming session using a varied assortment of different drums & sounds. As this is our last day together

before the Xmas holidays, we are organizing a kind of “potluck”, where everyone is asked to bring in a small dish of “hors d’oeuvres” or dessert.

December 13th is our last day of activities.

United Nations Universal Children’s Day, established in 1954, is celebrated on November 20th each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improve children's welfare. On November 20th, 1959, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.

Bells of Peace - 1918-2018 Royal Canadian Legion Initiative

A Remembrance of those who served in the

First World War. “On November 11, 1918, the

ringing of church bells erupted spontaneously

across the country, as an outpouring of relief

that four years of war had come to an

end.” (BBC news). The Bells of Peace will ring again this year.
