WELCOME TO THE OCTOBER EDITION OF THE BLACKROCK CENTRE NEWSLETTER…WE HAVE AN EXCITING OCTOBER PLANNED IN THE CENTRE WITH OUR FREE HALLOWEEN EVENTS. Join us for some spooky fun on the mall just in time for the mid term break. On Saturday 27th October we are running a ‘Halloween How To’ event from 11am to 3pm. So get set for the upcoming dress up event with a craft workshop on how to make your own costume from items you have around the house and how to do some scary make-up! There will be a live demonstration on the upper mall, plus a balloon modelling witch so the little ones have a take-away.

3pm! Get dressed up and bring the kids for some trick or treating fun around the mall. The stores will have lots of yummy sweets to give away, plus you can register with the witch at our Halloween table to get your bag and trail card. Find the pumpkins and you can come back for the lucky dip into the cauldron to win a spooky prize. Watch out for our scary Count Dracula on the mall and get your face painted with our witch facepainter.

Remember everything is free and there are lots more scary bargains in the stores for the big kids too!

HALLOWEEN MEATBALL SPIDERS These spooky meatballs are quick to prepare and kids will love them.Prep time: 10 minsCooking time: 15 minsServes: 12 peopleIngredients

Method*This recipe makes 12 meatballs.1. Place the minced beef,

breadcrumbs, egg, paprika and a pinch of salt and pepper in a bowl and mix together until well combined. Divide into 12 balls.

2. Warm the oil in a pan set over a medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for 6 minutes on each side, until cooked through.

3. Using a toothpick, make 8 holes in each meatball (4 on each side). Put a pepper strip into each hole to look like a spider leg. For the eyes, dab on two dots of mayonnaise and stick on two peas.

• 1 pinch Black Pepper

• 1 medium Fresh Egg lightly beaten

• 3 x Green Pepper sliced into very thin strips

• 1 tbsp Mayonnaise for decorating

• 1 tbsp Paprika • 24 x Peas • 1 pinch Salt • 50 g SuperValu

Fresh Breadcrumbs

• 3 tbsp SuperValu Oil

• 500 g lean minced beef

Here are a few safety tips for the kids to keep costumes creative and Safe:

1. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colours.

2. Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision.

3. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.

4. When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.
