“Education is the most powerful

weapon which you can use to change

the world. ”

A huge welcome to the 2021 School Year! The staff, along with the children are extremely excited about the huge range of experiences and learning opportunities that we have planned throughout the new school year. We are very hopeful that with continued vigilance linked to the COVID-19 Pandemic that we will be able to provide all of our students with a complete range of learning experiences in 2021. The first day of school was extremely positive with all students in Years 1-6 returning to school with great enthusiasm, ready for a massive year. While it was a different first day with parents and carers not present onsite, we thank you all for the continued support you offer your children and our school. Tomorrow we will welcome to our community our youngest and newest students, with 25 Kindergarten students starting big school! For parents and children it is an emotional time. A time of excitement, a time of separation, but most importantly a time of new learning, new socialising, new play, new adventure and new wonder. Life-long learning is just that, and children embark on a new chapter every day. For our Kindergarten students and their families, it is however a significant milestone. Cherish every moment, engage in your children’s learning and share the journey. You will not regret it! We also welcome a number of new students to the various other grades at Telegraph Point Public School. We trust all families have a great time in our community and benefit from the wonderfully diverse and car-ing community that we live in. The opening of any school year is always hectic, and this year will be no different. I encourage parents

and carers to engage in the various information opportunities on offer over the coming weeks and make a

genuine investment in the education of your children. Please consider the following details as you plan

your week:

Kindergarten Commencement Information Kindergarten students will commence school tomorrow at 8.55am. As we have 25 Kindergarten students currently enrolled for the 2021 educational year, we have structured two classes for our Kindergarten stu-dents. Mrs White will teach the straight Kindergarten class, whilst Mrs Connolly will teach a composite Kin-dergarten / Year 1 class. I have already contacted and or met with the parents whose child will be placed in the composite K/1 class.

School Recommencement COVID-19 Protocols As we commence the new school year, we appreciate everyone in our community working together to keep our community COVID-Safe and COVID-Free. Below is an outline of the key elements of the Depart-ment of Education’s guidelines in relation to the COVID-19 Pandemic: Parents and carers of Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students will be allowed on the school site (if

parents think it is necessary) to drop off their children at their classes on the first few days of school provided they follow physical distancing and hygiene measures implemented by the school and the department.

Once you have dropped your child off, we ask you to leave the school grounds to help us with our social

distancing requirements.

Parents and carers may also enter the school to pick up students for the first few days for Kinder-garten, Year 1 and Year 2.

Parents of students in Years 3-6 have been asked not to enter the school grounds at drop off and pick up.

Parents and carers entering the school grounds will need to scan in using the Services NSW QR Code which will be displayed at the office.

Visiting NSW Schools Parents and carers are not allowed on school sites or at off-site school events held during school hours except for the following purposes only:

Essential parent and carer meetings with teachers and/or school executives, with a scheduled ap-pointment. This includes scheduled meetings with parents and carers of prospective students.

Parents and carers who attend a school administration building or another defined location for the purpose of picking up their child if they are unwell or where they have been asked to arrange for a COVID-19 test after their child has displayed flu-like symptoms while at school.

Parents and carers who need to be on-site for canteen and uniform shop duties or to collect or pur-chase uniforms.

Parent or carer volunteers required as educational support roles for activities essential to the deliv-ery of the curriculum such as music, dance and kitchen garden areas. Schools are required to have scheduled programs in place and remind parents and carers that they must not attend school unless it has been previously arranged.

Parents and carers can attend parent orientation meetings and ‘meet the teacher’ meetings with school staff for all year/stage groups. Meetings should be limited to 1 hour where possible. A COVID-19 Safety Plan External link must be in place.

Physical distancing:

Physical distancing of students in schools is not required under the AHPPC guidelines.

All teachers, support staff and parents must maintain physical distance from each other (1.5m).

Parents should ensure school pick up and drop off arrangements enable them to physically distance from one another and from staff.

Please note that the opening hours of the School Administration Office are Monday-Friday 8.15am -3.30pm. Enquiries outside of these hours for administrative related matters are encouraged to be directed to the school’s email address (located on the front of the School Newsletter).

wonderful opportunities for our students. I encourage all families to read the newsletter each week as this

is our primary means of communicating with you and informing you of school events. If you have not previ-

P&C meeting

Our first P&C meeting (physically distanced) is to be held on Monday 15 February in the library at 6 pm. I look forward to meeting with parents and community members and discussing the wonderful learning op-portunities that we are planning for the 2021 school year.

Medical Information

The school is also updating our students’ medical information and updating any health care plans.

We welcome information from parents about your child's health, even if you are not requesting specific support from our school. Our school asks for medical information when you enrol your child. It is also im-portant that you let us know if your child’s health care needs change or if a new health condition develops.

Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes and other health care relat-ed issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provid-ed to the school by parents. Please provide this information in writing to the principal. This will greatly as-sist our school in planning to support your child’s health and wellbeing.

Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact details of other people nominated as emergency contacts.

We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide the school will be stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your son or daughter’s health needs or as otherwise required by law.

School Hats

Please remind your child to bring their school hat for recess and lunch. It is far too hot to be outside with-out a hat and children without a hat will be asked to sit under the shelter during playtimes. The school has appropriate hats in stock if you need to purchase one.

Financial Assistance

Please remember to come and see me if you require financial assistance to help pay for any school activi-ty this year. We have a number of ways in which to help and please rest assured, all details are kept total-ly confidential. We would like to see all students involved in our planned activities and if finance is a prob-lem please make contact.

I am looking forward to meeting with you and discussing the educational needs of your children and work-

ing together to provide a quality education for all students at Telegraph Point Public School.
