WILTSHIRE TIMES ARTICLE
We are delighted to let you know that Westwood with
Iford School has been featured in this week’s edition
of the Wiltshire Times.
As part of their Schools in Focus section, there is an
article promoting our school and many of our pupils
can be spotted on pages 16 and 17.
SAINSBURYS VOUCHERS
Please help us to collect as many Sainsbury’s school
vouchers as possible. Each year, we are able to
acquire a lot of valuable resources through this
scheme and the more we collect, the more materials
we can order. There is a collection box at the school
entrance just waiting for your vouchers! Thank you.
DANCE CLUB
Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
We raised a fantastic £64 from our Hot Chocolate and
Cookies sale last week and we’ve been asked to do it
again next Friday, 12th February! Please do join us,
this time in the school hall, next to the FoWS Second
Hand School Uniform Sale.

BIRTHDAYS
Happy Birthday to these children who have celebrated their
birthdays recently
SCOOTER SKILLS SESSIONS
Well done to those who took part in the Scooter Skills
Sessions this week. Road Safety Officer, Tina Giles,
said that she ‘very much enjoyed working with the
twenty one children’ and was grateful that as a school
we were supporting the road education scheme.
Certificates were handed out during Celebration
Assembly to our road wise scooterers!
MUD KITCHEN
Miss Brown is plannning to make a start on creating a
Mud Kitchen during half term. If you are able to help
in any way, please let her know. All support for the
project would be greatly appreciated.
CROSS COUNTRY
Some of the children who took part in the Cross Country
Championship
Some of our pupils took part in the Bradford on Avon
School Spotrts Federation Cross Country
Championship at St Laurence School this week. They
all did a fantastic job in representing our school and
were also presented with certificates during
Celebration Assembly. Well done!
DOG FOULING
It has been brought to our attention that dogs have
been allowed to foul in the area immediately next to
the fence and that this has not been picked up before
walking them home.
Whilst we are not obliged to allow dogs onto school
grounds, we do so on the understanding that they are
kept well under control, tied to the fence at the far
side of the car park and that any mess that is created
is picked up and taken away.
We would ask that all dog owners ensure that the
school site is left in the same state that it was found
on leaving so that the safety of the children and
cleanliness of the site can be maintained.
PARKING
We have received a number of complaints from local
residents about the parking problems at the start and
end of the school day. Driveways continue to be
blocked, junctions are obstructed and drivers are
continuing to park unsafely, including in the school
grounds.
Can we ask, yet again, that if you are dropping off or
collecting your child from school that you park
sensibly and safely.
Parking is usually available near the village shop and
further down Boswell Road.
SCHOOL MEALS
A new order form is now available for after half term.
Please return the completed form to the school office
by 9:00am Thursday 11th February, if you would like
your child to have school meals the first week back
after half term.
Thank you.
FRIENDS OF WESTWOOD SCHOOL UPDATE
Second Hand Uniform Sale – Friday 12th February
Trousers a bit short? Jumpers a bit tight? Then why
not have a sort out to help raise funds for school!
After school on Friday 12th February (the last day of
this half-term) FOW's will be holding a second hand
school uniform sale and you can help us by:
1) Clearing out the old! - Why not donate all
your old school uniform items that are too
small? Just bring them to the school office in
a bag marked for Joanne Mavridis. Please
note the clothes must be clean and in nearly
new condition, i.e. still wearable.

2) Buying some new! - At amazing prices! Pick
up logo'd jumpers, trousers, skirts, shirts and

WESTWOOD PARK PLAY AREA – CONSULTATION
FoWs have agreed to co-ordinate a renovation of and
improvement to the Parish Council play area in
Westwood Park. This is being led by Ed Harrison of
FoWs, who is seeking initial suggestions and ideas
from parents for incorporation into the plans.
At the moment, the aim is as follows:
1) to create an adjacent but separate new play area
for nursery/pre-school age children,
2) to expand and refurbish the existing play area.
By allowing older and younger children to play
separately, we can provide a greater range of age-
appropriate equipment, and reduce the risk of injury
during free play around the equipment. The hope is
that we can then increase the overall age range of
children using the play area.
We would welcome any input, but particularly in
relation to any pieces of play equipment that you
have noted are popular in other play areas. Even if
you have no specific suggestions, it would be
extremely helpful (for purposes of funding and
obtaining the relevant permissions) if you could let
us know if you support the idea.
For the avoidance of doubt, we point out that the
Westwood Park play area (and play equipment) is
owned by the Parish Council and any proposals are
subject to their approval. As a result, it has been
decided that the funding for this project will not come
from FoWs generated funds, which will remain for use
by and for the school. The funding will come from
public sources and grant applications.
You are welcome to speak to Ed about this in the
playground (generally available on a Friday for drop
off and pick up), but it would be preferred if you could
also send an email with your comments
