Cardinal Newman Big Sleep Out - A reminder that members of our school community are
sleeping out on the school playground tonight to raise money for homeless charities in Coventry and Birmingham. The
weather forecast is not looking good and we are going to miss our warm beds but hopefully the money we raise will
make a positive difference to the lives of homeless people in our local communities. If you would like to sponsor a
student or member of staff you can send donations in a sealed envelope via reception.
Well done to Year 7 - We were delighted to welcome parents and students from Year 7 last night for Parents’
Evening. There were lots of happy parents, staff and students at the end of the evening and well done to the vast
majority of Year 7 who have made an excellent start at Cardinal Newman. It was also a pleasure to be invited to Year 7
assembly on Wednesday and present nearly 70 students with their ASPIRE Headteacher Award. Well done Year 7!
Parental Survey - A reminder to parents that we would appreciate it if you could complete the online survey as your
feedback is very important to us and will help us with future planning. Parents can access the survey by the following link
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CNCSPV18 or paper copies are available from student reception. The deadline for
completion is Monday 30 April 2018.
I hope you all have a great week, Mrs Marina Kelly, Headteacher

friendship when we can to those who are lonely and in need. Amen
Alton Castle - Year 7 Fearless Retreat
On Friday 20th April 10 Year 7 students took part in the Alton Castle Fearless Retreat, joining nearly 100 other young people from all
around our Diocese.
We had a weekend packed with biking, abseiling from the castle roof, trekking, assault courses, reconciliation, Mass, Guinness World Record
attempts and lots more with the Alton Castle team. A brilliant weekend was had by all. A huge thank you to all at the Kenelm Youth Trust
for organising the retreat.

Anti Bullying Conference
On Wednesday 18th May, 14 Year 9 students and Mrs Marano travelled to Ernesford Grange Academy to
represent the school as Anti Bullying Ambassadors.
Our day started off with multiple sessions based on Cyber Bulling and understanding how our perception
of people could affect your own perception of yourself. We also learned how to understand problems with
someone who is being bullied and how we could help. The purpose of our trip was to work towards our
Princess Diana award which is an award for people who take their own time and dedicate it to helping
others whether that would be through fundraising events or workshops that help people who are
underestimated in life. Overall a great day was had. The Anti Bullying Ambassadors are here to help with
any problems. A box is available in student reception where students can anonymously post a problem
that they have. Bullying can also be reported via email [email protected].
