PRINCIPAL REPORT

Award recipients

It is a great way to start the week recognising the wonderful efforts of students across the school.Congratulations to all of our award recipients this week.

Staff afternoon on country

Last Friday afternoon staff engaged in an Aboriginal on Country afternoon at Bateau Bay Beach. Staffwere joined by Rob Waters, Kirsten Booker and Cherie Collins, who all work to support AboriginalEducation across the Central Coast. It was such a wonderful afternoon for staff and their families totake time out, relax, connect and hear significant and meaningful stories.

Visiting classrooms and students showcasing great work

It has been wonderful to visit classrooms on a daily basis and share a book with students. ‘TheWorld Needs More Purple People.’ is one of my favourites and I have shared it with most K-3classes. This book talks about the 5 wonderful traits that make a purple person:

This book shares a great message that it doesn’t actually matter if you’re purple or any othercolour, its what’s on the inside that really matters.

It has been a highlight of each day sharing my love of reading with students and I look forward togetting into more classrooms next week.

PRINCIPAL REPORTOngoing traffic concerns

We have received a number of complaints from members of the local community regarding thebank up of traffic each afternoon. Cars entering Kiss and Go are lining up around the corner ontoCentral Coast Highway, preventing traffic from turning onto Serpentine Road. It is also causingissues for the buses.

We ask that anyone using Kiss and Go to pick up students in the afternoon refrain from queuingbeyond the designated Kiss and Go lane. We remind parents that our Kiss and Go zone operatesunder the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or pick upchildren for a maximum of 2 minutes. Community members will be contacting council to ask thatrandom ranger inspections are carried out to monitor this situation.

Uniform

It is so wonderful to see students wearing their newuniforms with pride. The arrival of the new uniform hascreated a great deal of excitement among students andour community. We have received great feedback and lookforward to the arrival of other uniform items once they areavailable in store.

Just a reminder that Lowes are offering a 20% off sale onthe 11th and 12th of March. Lowes have advised thatrainchecks will be honoured if stock is not available duringthe sale.

Professional Learning – WritingEarlier this week, all students in Year 1-6completed a common writing task “Change arule or law”.

On Wednesday, teachers participated inConsistent Teacher Judgement sessions wherethey used a K-6 Rubric to mark all students’writing, sharing their knowledge anddeveloping their expertise.

Over the next week, class teachers will analysetheir students’ samples and plan teaching toaddress identified areas for development.

We will repeat this process at the end of Term1 and again early in Term 2 to enable teachersto track and monitor students’ progress.

ZZZ! The miniscule ladybird was frantically hovering around the deep blue pond and spotted aheavenly white, delicate feather. It descended gently onto the feather and relaxed. It was shadesof blood red, pitch black and pearl white.

Will D. 5B

A majestic ladybird landed elegantly on a soft, fragile feather. Her crisp, black wings flutteredcarefully as her pin-like legs touched the soft surface of the feather. Her magnificent shell wasdeep red with pitch black and pearly white marks.

Evie V. 5B

A miniature, maroon ladybird landed on the delicate feather as graceful as a jellyfish glidingthrough the ocean. It had black and white spots on its hard, glossy backside.

Sick Sentences by 5BDuring 2020 our Teacher Professional Learning program had a strong focus on improving students’sentence structure and vocabulary when writing. The following samples of work would suggest thatwe are definitely on the right track. Well done 5B!
