General News from the Director
Dear Readers of our Newsletter,
ASD-STAN has published six standards this month.
All new prENs are available at our web-shop; the new DIN ENs will follow soon.
The ASD-STAN General Assembly and the ASD-STAN Board met on the 20th of
June 2017 at the BNAE
premises in Paris,
France. The ASD-STAN
General Assembly
approved the
closed balance of the
association for 2016 and
approved the proposed
budget for 2017. The
Board acknowledged the
successful attempts
made to improve the
financial situation of
ASD-STAN and the
achievements in the
publication scheme, especially for the transformation of older prENs. The Board approved the proposal of
the ASD-STAN Technical Authority for the use of ASD-STAN templates for all ASD-STAN working group
and domain meetings. All templates are available at the ASD-STAN website https://www.asd-
stan.org/standardisation-tools/ .
The ASD-STAN Board will meet next time on the 21st of November 2017 at DIN, Berlin, Germany

ASD-STAN was presented at the Paris AirShow at Le Bourget from 19th of June to 22nd of June 2017 on
a stand together with BNAE and DIN NL. Updated flyers are available at https://www.asd-stan.org/wp-
content/uploads/ASD-STAN-Flyer-v6-1.pdf .
Why should be an organization involved in Aerospace standardization by ASD-STAN and how can be
this done?
ASD-STAN put some statements together to answer these regular questions at the ASD-STAN website:
https://www.asd-stan.org/the-importance-of-involvement-in-standardization/
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have additional questions.
Thank you and enjoy the read!
With the best regards,
Andreas Jain

UK – Quo Vadis?
Since the Brexit discussions began and especially since exactly one year ago almost 52% of the UK voters
decided that the UK shall leave the European Union there was confusion within ASD-STAN about the future
participation of the UK in the European Aerospace Standardization process.
ASD-STAN is recognized as the European body for Aerospace Standardization and has
published more than 2.311 European Norms representing 11% of the total CEN norms.
In addition, almost 818 ASD-STAN prEN norms and TR were published. These
figures show which strong position ASD-STAN has achieved over the years not only
within the European Aerospace Industry but also worldwide as a global producer of
internationally accepted modern aerospace standards. But during every of the recent
TA Meetings the concerns were raised if the European position of ASD-STAN might
be weakened after the Brexit.
Two weeks ago, on June 19, the ASD-STAN Technical Authority (TA) had their regular meeting. This
meeting took place in the offices of BNAE in Paris. And it started with quite a surprise. At the anniversary of
the Brexit vote this time we were able to welcome the active presence of two British organizations for the
first time in years. BSI and ADS (ASD-STAN member) representatives joined the meeting and actively
participated in the subjects of our discussions.
And it turned out to be a very productive meeting with a stronger-than-ever participation of the UK in our
ASD-STAN activities. We are now expecting more UK involvement in our Working Groups and Domains.
This will enable us to have a wider distribution of responsibilities for the development of new standards.
This development is in my opinion a highlight which signals a positive future for the activities and the
acceptance of ASD-STAN throughout Europe and on a global scale. At last – the Brexit seems to be not so
bad for ASD-STAN, instead it was a very positive wake-up-call for our activities.

TA Chairman
