PRESIDENTS REPORTPRESIDENTS REPORTPRESIDENTS REPORTPRESIDENTS REPORT
Welcome everyone to our June/July Newsletter. Wet conditions have con-tinued but have not dampened our enthusiasm for fishing events.
We have fished our annual Comp against the Amateur Fishing Associa-tion of Queensland who are located at Bribie Island. The contest was held in the Tipplers to Jumpinpin area, accom-modation was booked at TSS camping grounds on Sth Stradbroke Is. SAFC won the Comp and we can expect to see the winners shield ‘sometime soon!’
The base provided good facilities and was appreciated by all that used them in fact we would like to consider hav-ing a purely SAFC weekend there in the future.
Our Ballina trip on May long weekend, organised by Wayne Davis was a very successful trip and a similar trip next year has been proposed.
Our lease on the club site ends in June 2013, negotiations are underway for a renewal of lease but will be affected by the 2018 Commonwealth Games and therefore the future outcome of the club will be strongly negotiated.
A big thank you to the Club Members attending the polling booth in support of our Patron Dawn Crichlow. Our booth scored a 53% polling for Dawn and it was great to see her elected for another 4 years.
Agreement has been reached with the Gold Coast Sports Fishing Club for a further years continuation of occupa-tion of the Clubhouse at a 60% in-crease in contributions.

Club Members have attended two fund raising BBQ’s, Earth Hour and The Gold Coast Monster Machinery Day organised by Bernie Gaven and proved very success-ful for club funds. A big thank you to Bernie and for the excellent support from our hard working members.
The “Take a Kid Fishing Day’ had 22 jun-iors including 13 Cub Scouts attend for a great effort with 13 fish caught on The Broadwater in front of the Clubhouse. Members volunteered and ran the day with a workshop session and a casting competition. We received a glowing thank you letter from QAFCA for our efforts.
The drive to increase our membership is having effect with 31 Associate Members joining and 54 Full Members, please keep the effort up as our level of Membership helps our negotiations for a new Club-house.
We have had two informative guest speak-ers, firstly in May , Dr Bill Anseline from Skin Alert, Paradise Pt emphasised our need to protect and treat skin cancers. In June, Ian Banks made a wonderful presen-tation on our Seaway marine life. Thank you to both. Our next guest is Wayne Young , on the 3rd July. Wayne is a well known writer and TV presenter who will feature Fishing in the Broadwater in par-ticular whiting so please come, learn and enjoy.
This is especially important as our 2nd round of the SAFC vs Southport RSL Fish-ing Competition 9 is on 21st July and we won the first round and would like to re-tain the shield winning round two. Please remember the Comp rules will be closely watched so all names on individual eskies for weigh in.

Competition 8
Welcome fellow piscatorians, we ventured out for Comp 8 af-ter the dreadful week of rain and wild seas and 18 brave fisherpersons faced the ele-
ments.
Surprisingly, not a lot were caught and 7 people caught
zero, including me.
We had 4 new members fish for the first time which were Phil, Garry, Corey and Graham, wel-
come to our Club.
Our next Comp 9 is on the 21st July against the RSL and Ti-gers and starts 4pm Saturday till 10am Sunday. Weigh in will be 11 am at the Clubhouse fol-lowed by breakfast. We just ask for a contribution of $3.50 per head to cover meal costs.
Several of us will fish through the night and would like to see some numbers as we have a good chance then of holding
on to the trophy.
If an oversize fish is caught it may now be used in the Com-petition. You must contact the Captain whom will give you in-structions as to what to do to record the size, take photo and release the fish (flathead etc).
Hope to see you all at the Pot Luck Dinner on the 7th July.

POT LUCK DINNER

DIVING THE GOLD COAST SAFC welcomed international Dive Instructor and Photographer Ian Banks along as guest
speaker at the last Members Meeting to talk about his marine studies of the Gold Coast
Seaway and Broadwater.
We viewed fantastic footage of the Nth and Sth wall from the entrance to the Seaway and
the Sand Pipe, Wave Break Island and the rock walls and sand flats along Marine Pde side
of The Broadwater. Some of the footage had been taken that morning on high tide.
Ian believes the Gold Coast Seaway is by far the best dive site in any Australian city. We
have an incredible diversity of fish which are regularly observed such as trevally, bream,
flathead, luderick, tarwhine, whiting, mulloway, queen fish mackerel as well as bull sharks
and plenty of sting rays.
The fish don’t feed while they hang out at the Pipeline, they just get serviced by the local
cleaner fish in their unique ‘Seaway Sanctuary’
