Attendance and Engagement

During COVID19 students are required to engage daily in learning by either online or face to face mode of delivery.

King Park Public School encourages all families to participate in the staged return to school model. If a parent or

carer deems there are personal circumstances preventing their child/children attending school then they are

required to contact the school to let them know and to engage in online learning on that day. A student who does

not attend school on their allocated day and their parent/carer has provided correspondence with the school will be

marked as an ‘F’ (flexible learning). Students who do not attempt daily learning tasks will be marked as absent. If a

student is marked as absent for 2 days or more, the classroom teacher will contact parents and caregivers to support

in developing strategies for re-engagement in the learning environment.

School rolls will be marked as follows:

Present- Students who are at school onsite and in attendance.

F – Students at home engaged in learning or they have been placed into self-isolation due to contact or have been

self-isolated after returning from overseas.

A – There is no evidence of students completing work therefore students are on unapproved leave.

S – Parents advise the school that their child is sick and not able to attend school and therefore unable to complete

work

School canteen and uniform shop

The school canteen will be operational from next week for Monday – Thursday only. Pat will be in the canteen.

Please send your child with their canteen order already filled out to minimise parent contact at the canteen.

Uniforms will be available for purchase from the front office. As the weather cools off term 2 is a Winter School

Uniform term. When students come to school they are expected to be in full winter school uniform. When

purchasing from the front office please observe social distancing rules. One family at a time at the counter and in the

office space. Please line up outside the office on the crosses provided.

Infection Control at school

1. Please keep your child at home if they are unwell – particularly if they are exhibiting flu like symptoms – sore

throat, coughing, sneezing, runny nose. Stay away from school until all symptoms are gone. Students

presenting at school as unwell will be sent home.

2. Handwashing regularly and thoroughly. Posters are displayed in all bathrooms along with soap. Automatic

hand sanitiser dispensers have been installed in every classroom for students and teachers to use when

entering the classrooms. These can also be found in high traffic areas such as the front office, staffroom and

library.

3. Physical distancing. Smaller class sizes will be operating during week 3 and 4 when students are at school

one day per week allowing students to have more space between each other. Separate playgrounds will be

used to spread students out in the playground. Parents are asked to keep away from school as much as

possible promoting a “kiss and drop” approach and contacting school and class teachers by phone or email

as required. There will be no assemblies until further notice and the play equipment at the front of the

school is also off limits.

4. Discouraging the use of bubblers – students are encouraged to bring water bottles to school and to refill

these bottles at the water stations on site if required.

5. Please send your child with their own stationery supplies – pencil case, pencils, rubber, scissors, sharpener

I’d like to thank all of our parents and carers for their amazing support over the past 6 weeks. We have had some

great positive feedback about the online lessons and this has been very much appreciated. Our staff have been

working tirelessly to plan lessons, teach online and make contact with every student. Our admin and support staff

have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we are doing as much as we can to support our families at this

difficult time. Please stay safe and we are looking forward to seeing our students on their day next week.

ANZAC Day This ANZAC Day was different from the rest. I would usually get up at 5am and drive to my nearest RSL club and be there at sunrise for the Dawn Service. I would usually attend with my husband and dad. This year we got up at 5am and stood in our driveway. We lit a candle and said a pray for the men and women who have gone before us. We had a minute silence. We looked around us to find that our neighbours were doing the same. Mrs Taylor Our ANZAC Day Ceremony at school was different this year too. Normally we would get together as a whole school community to commemorate the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought and died in the war. Classes would create wreaths which our school leaders would take across the road to Canley Vale RSL Club and lay our wreath at the memorial. This year, students made their ANZAC Day art at home and shared it on zoom or in google classroom. We held a virtual Anzac Day Ceremony that was posted on Facebook and the students who were at school laid wreaths at our flagpole. Below are some pictures of how King Park commemorated our ANZACs.

Opportunity Class Placement Test

The placement process for opportunity class entry in 2021, including the Opportunity Class Placement Test, will be delayed until later in the year. As a result, applications will not open on 28 April 2020 as previously advised.

This delay is in response to the social distancing measures that are currently in place to help slow the spread of COVID-19 throughout the community.

The opportunity class placement will still go ahead in 2020 however, the process for that, including the timeline, will look a little different this year.

Revised dates for applications and tests will be announced as soon as they are confirmed. Continue to monitor the department's website via https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 to remain up to date with information relating to opportunity classes.

Scripture Classes Face-to-face Special Religious Education (SRE), will not be available until all schools resume normal operations

(Phase 4). Please check on the school website for information on how to access online lessons and resources for your

scripture class learning from home.

One family in the Office permitted at a time. Please line up on

marked points to practice social distancing. Thank you!
