SHIHAN’S WORDS OF WISDOM
The bond between mothers and their children
is one defined by love. As a mother’s prayers for her
children are unending, so are the wisdom, grace, and
strength that they provide to their children.
Always love your mother,
as you will never have another!

Congratulations to Andrew Hammer, Kyle Elkenhans,
Anahera Tutaki and Manaia Tutaki, from KRJJ Judo
Club, who have just been advised they are off to Carrara
on the Gold Coast for the National Judo Championships.
These Championships are conducted over four days, 10
- 14th June, and attract Judoka from all over Australia.
The four members are excited to be representing Queens-
land and take part in this prestigious event by Judo Aus-
tralia. The very least that they will come away with, will
be a worthwhile learning experience, as they haven’t en-
tered into such a high representative field
before. Well done to the four members of
our School, and Good Luck!
Congrats to Manaia and Ana-
hera Tutaki who each won
their division and Anahera
also entered another division
and attained a Silver medal at
the recent Taephoon Judo
Competition at South Ripley.
Now for the Nationals.
Well done to Andrew Hammer and
Kyle Elkenhans for their selection
into the Queensland Team to contest
at the Nationals! Enjoy the experi-
ence and remember you never fail, it
is always a learning experience.
Well done to Shihan Jim and Sensei Meladee Stackpoole for travelling to Cairns on 10th April for the State
Judo Championships. Shihan Jim was requested to present medals throughout the competition, while
Sensei Meladee was selected to be an electronic scorer/timekeeper with the new Smooth Comp system.
They caught up with a lot of friends as, before retirement, they spent a lot of time in North Queensland
when Shihan Jim was in the Qld Police Service. Well done to NQ Judo development committee for con-
ducting the State Championships, under newly elected President Paul de Brincat.
The old saying “The family that plays together , stays together!” proves true time and time again.
Here we have the Evans family, Dad, David, Mum, Sanita, who are both now Sempai for our KRJJ Judo
Club, with children, Arden and Alyssa who are credited as to having introduced them to this sport.
They join the elite group of families who over years have done the same thing, and played either Judo
or Jujitsu together and been successful. Congratulations to the Evans family on this achievement!
Some other families who have done the same, where the whole family joins in:
Jim, Meladee, Steffi, Christopher Stackpoole. Greg, Cindy, Arielle, Kyle Elkenhans along with grandad,
Joe Elkenhans. Scott, Lisa, Monique and Chelsea Mears. Damien, Andrea, Andrew, Monique, Shania
Hammer. Andrew, Nixie, Molly, Joseph, Rosa Quant. Trent, Rachael, Lochlan, Owen, Courtney, Sean
Hollyman. Kyle, Toni, Ethan, Tiegan, Seth, Trinity Marsden. Craig, Tania, Callum, Taylah Giles.
Luke, Helen, Charlton, Spencer Toth. Zaid, Shannon, Tarek, Layla Al Samaraie.
There have been many other families who are one parent families or are missing one of the parents off
the mat. It is great to see so many enthusiastic parents taking on and joining in with what the children
are interested in. Well done parents!
The six week Tactile Defence Program that we offer to the vision impaired members, is due to recommence
on Saturday 22nd May at Guide Dogs Qld premises at Bald Hills . We are looking forward to once again
working with this wonderful group of self-motivated people. We are also looking forward to some more Sempai becom-
ing involved. Most Sensei are already part of the program and are under Sensei Anthony and Sensei Moti’s direction and
guidance. You do not need to be a black belt, as you learn how to teach the vision impaired in self defence. You will
need to obtain a Blue Card and a Yellow Card to instruct the disabled, but GDQ will assist with that. So, any Sempai, if
you are interested, please contact the Head Coach of your dojo and let them know of your interest or
email: [email protected]
ORDER NOW!!! DON’T MISS OUT!!!! RED T-SHIRTS, RED CLUB POLOS, RED CLUB HOODIES
SCHOOL
SHIRTS
SCHOOL
HOODIES
We are ordering Kyushin Ryu School of Jujitsu Inc. t-shirts, polo and hoodies. Polo shirts are for students over
13yrs, seniors, parents and supporters. Cost is approximately $35/polo, $15/T-shirt and $40 per hoodie. We
only ever order the shirts every 2—3 years. So please order NOW!!
Jujitsu girls wear the red t-shirt under their gi. Judo girls wear a plain white t-shirt under their gi (as dictated
by Judo Queensland rules). But Judo girls can wear the red t-shirt to and from training or competitions. Boys
wear it to and from lessons (as boys do not wear any shirts under their gi - traditional). Now that Winter is
close upon us, hoodies are always trendy to wear and why not publicise our School. When we go for our an-
nual visiting trips to other Judo/Jujitsu Schools, they are good for safety - so we can locate our group easily.
Prices are very comparable to those in stores. The t-shirts are screen printed, where the polos and the hoodies
are embroidered. CUT OFF DATE FOR ORDERS : FRIDAY 7TH MAY.

RESTARTS
BEHIND THE SCENES There has been a lot of action happening at Pine Rivers PCYC dojo for the
last couple of Sundays/Mondays. Sensei Kyle Elkenhans is determined to
not let our wonderful Kyushin Ryu Jujitsu techniques be lost in time and
has taken the initiative to video record all techniques. He is currently,
along with Shihan Jim and the Technical Panel of Sensei Moti Ram, Sensei
Steffi Stackpoole and Sensei Anthony Smith, overviewing the techniques
being performed by other keen members who also wish to keep a database
of the curriculum. With dad, Greg Elkenhans and mum, Cindy, assisting
in the production, Sensei Kyle will have given the Kyushin Ryu School of
Jujitsu a great resource and tool to be used by members. He has learned a
lot throughout the production with talking over old times, and the history
of our style with Shihan who brought this style back from Japan from
Sensei Minehiko Nakano when he trained over there in 1968 and 1974.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO MEMBERS OF PINE RIVERS PCYC: Renovations are occurring at PRPCYC from the 10th May,
and the mats will be downstairs to be used for training from then onwards for about 4 months. It is all out of our control. We
will eventually be back upstairs as normal, but not for quite a while.
