We call her Mama and she has a passion for kids - Mrs Jane Wandrag
As the principal of a school, many do not know much about her. She let us in on her hidden talent - cooking! It would be a surprise to most but she is an amazing cook and promised to invite us soon for a meal. Mrs Wandrag has been school principal for the past 8 years and is extremely passionate about the school. She began as a teacher 32 years ago. She insists on Bible readings every morning in the hope that learners can grow and respect each other.
The principal of Lowveld High School has a pas-sion for sports and she adores her grand kids
Her wish is to change the public perception of the school by letting the public know all the good things being done within the school. Leaners are excelling in many differ-ent spheres of life, from academics to extra mu-ral activities and even community projects.
She is grateful for all the support she gets from
her staff and the dedication they show daily in making sure the school runs efficiently. In her own encouraging words she says “to be a fully-fledged adult is to have self-discipline, self-motivation and be independent.” She further encour-ages the youth to be mature enough do the right things even when no one is watching, make good sound decisions and have self-respect.

Establishing A New Normal – Building Better Teams
“We’re building for the future, building for the future, building for a future.” We have had to constantly remind ourselves of these words for the last part of this term, to the point where these words have become our football mantra guiding our perspectives.
Building on from the great work of last year, we needed to ensure that our foun-dation was built right – the junior teams got the correct coaching and the senior players provided exemplary models of behaviour for the juniors, both on and off the field. That commitment is shown, not only to sports, but to the entirety of school life of which education is the pillar.
We had to “establish a new normal” as soccer players in one of the top schools in the country.
The extent of our challenges:
The Lowveld High 1st Team faces the challenge of the “passing of the old” and the “birthing of the new”, between this is the present: Young players who want to be given the chance to play and older players with their own expectations of sta-bility and continuation. The school has a proud and glowing history in the soccer circles and we would like to at least maintain that, but ideally improve on it. We need to find the necessary balance in maintaining all these factors in an environ-ment challenging enough for the new players yet still reassuring for the older players.
Our Junior Soccer teams are slowly shaping up under the meticulous and experi-enced care of our Coaches, Tebogo and Muso. As is often the case with growth and development, we learn more from our “defeats” and I can say without any fear of contradiction that our U14s will shape up into a formidable ball playing football side, despite their recent defeat in the McDonald’s Cup. I challenge all to come see what I am talking about!
Our 1st Team Girls are a lovely, lively and energetic group of tremendously tal-ented young ladies. Their spirit and eagerness to learn far outshines their lack of natural ability. We believe that they will be ready to go on tour with us to the Pres-tigious St Peter’s Festival in September.
Teams are only as good as the work consistently put in by the coach and as such, special mention needs to be made of our coaches who are putting in the work required to build LHS Soccer. Coach Tebogo of the U15s and Coach Muso of the U14s are two of the most dedicated coaches I know.
Special mention also goes out to the U14 boys who played a beautiful game of football against Klipspringer . They showed maturity and tactical understanding—something I did not expect of boys aged 13.
Along with the U14’s, I would like Dakalo to be noted for his mature and cool head on the pitch. He put his body on the line for us which resulted in a fractured arm. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Well done to Luthando for admitting to his faults and humbling himself enough to apologise to the team for his indiscretions.
And, last but not least, Gerard who has begun to show his potential!
Our Greatest appreciation must go to you – parents, supporters, teachers, friends and all those who quietly cheer for us.
Thank You, for helping us build “A New Normal” ‘
Until Next Time
