Have you or someone you know beenaffected by COVID-19? Lost wages, job loss,hours cut? We want to let you know United

Way of Brazoria County is here to help. We created a COVID-19 fund for direct assistance to helpcommunity residents with financial relief if they have lost a job, lost hours and or childcare, etc., due toCOVID-19.

As of today, we have raised $86,922.00. With these monies,we will be able to assist many residentsthroughout Brazoria County.

If you know of an individual or a family struggling to make ends meet due to COVID-19, please havethem contact our office at 979-849-9402 and speak to a case manager. We're here to support thosewho have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. These are neighbors who have lost their wages andtips. Families struggling to pay their bills. Children who are missing school lunches. Individualsexperiencing homelessness who have been shut out of other services.

From experience, we know when this community comes together, it can overcome challenges of greatmagnitude.

As always, thank you for supporting United Way of Brazoria County during these uncertain times!

These are challenging times. But even as we facemore uncertainty, we have the power to creategood.

On May 5, for #GivingTuesdayNow, we askedpeople like you to give back to people in ourcommunity impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

#GivingTuesdayNowEvery year people come together on the Tuesdayafter the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday forGivingTuesday, a global generosity movement. Asan emergency response to the unprecedentedneed caused by COVID-19, we joined nonprofitsand individuals around the world in a special#GivingTuesdayNow event.

1. Donate a mealEveryone loves a free meal. If you are thinkingabout donating a meal, be sure to coordinate withthe location so your delivery can be doneefficiently and safely.

Right now social distancing practices can lead toincreased feelings of fear, anxiety, depression,boredom, anger, frustration, irritability and evenstigmatization for people who are sick or have

Make someone’s commute to work brighter byposting a sign in your window or front yard tellingfrontline workers how much they mean to ourcommunity. This is a great project for kids!

3. Be kindEssential workers who are keeping grocery,convenience and pharmacy stores open see largegroups of people every day. Tell them thank you,wear a protective mask, keep your distance fromemployees and be kind to team members andother customers. These small acts can helpworkers feel appreciated and safer at their jobs.

4. Share a message on social mediaAs we all keep our physical distance, connectingonline has become even more important. Usingsocial media is a great way to thank frontlineworkers. You can tag people you know or send ageneral message using the hashtags#FrontlineLove, #FrontlineHeroes, #COVIDHeroesor #InThisTogether.

5. Leave items for delivery workersDelivery workers are putting in long hours andmany find it hard to get to the store. Help them byleaving items such as water bottles, toilet paper,hand sanitizer, snacks and other essentials thatwill get them through their day or save them a tripto the store.

6. Email Congress During this time of uncertainty and economiccrisis, many people, including those still working,need a boost to make ends meet. Vital serviceslike 211, the Earned Income Tax Credit and ChildTax Credit, and SNAP can provide relief forfrontline workers – and others – in need. You canask your representative to increase funding forthese services.

7. Join a daily salute Across the world, many communities are nowdoing a daily salute to frontline workers bylighting candles, applauding, cheering, howling orsounding horns at a certain time of day.

8. Stay at homeThe most important thing you can do to thankfrontline workers is to stay home. When we allstay home, we limit the spread of COVID-19. Solimit outings to essential trips to the grocery store,medical appointments, picking up prescriptions,walking pets and helping the vulnerable. Whenoutside, use social distancing to stay at least sixfeet away from others.

Even though we are apart, we can still be United.Let’s show frontline workers that we are in thistogether!

Yet too many people are hesitant to talk abouttheir mental health or seek help. Studies showthat one in five adults experience mental illness,yet less than half receive the support they need.

We are excited about the Governor's phasedreopening of Texas. However, at this time, theGovernor's Executive Orders do not allow forsocial gatherings of more than 10 people.Therefore, at this point, no social gatherings ofmore than 10 people are permitted.

The sponsoring of large events that would drawmore than 10 people are not permitted at thistime by the Governor's Executive Orders.

We look forward to seeing our friends andneighbors and hope for a full reopening soon!
