Amen Dear Parents, The Year 3/4 children's Hallelujah presentation at assembly on Friday was a wonderful reminder to us of Holy Week and our Easter story. During Holy Week and Easter the Church recalls the final days of the life and eventual death of Jesus, his triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, his last supper with the disciples, his crucifixion and his resurrection from the dead. The resurrection of Jesus is the central truth of Christian faith and handed on initially through oral tradition and in turn the written tradition through the Gospels. What meaning does Jesus’ resurrection and death have for us today? Perhaps it is an individual response, importantly a faith response. In seeking an understanding and response I quote Pope, Francis from a letter written in the Year of Mercy where he writes “the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus gives meaning to pain and loneliness”. In reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus and an understanding of a meaning for pain and loneliness a response in faith is one of hope, a hope that acknowledges and looks forward to renewed life. May we be Easter people full of hope. “Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter People and Hallelujah is our song” St. John Paul 11 God bless you. Dear Parents, The Year 3/4 children's Hallelujah presentation at assembly on Friday was a wonderful reminder to us of Holy Week and our Easter story.

In reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus and an understanding of a meaning for pain and loneliness a response in faith is one of hope, a hope that acknowledges and looks forward to renewed life.

SOCIAL JUSTICE from the STUDENTS Little Hearts, Cambodia My sister Estelle Fanning and I will be travelling to Cambodia to visit friends and travel around to see the temples and meet the people during these school holidays. In particular, we will be visiting the Little Hearts Orphanage in Phnom Penh. The Little Hearts Orphanage is the home to many Cambodian children who do not have parents, and do not have their own home to live in. This is a good opportunity for us all to make a little difference. If anyone is willing to donate any money for the Little Hearts Orphanage, on behalf of Our Lady Star of the Sea, we would love to help them even a little. We will share our stories with you when we return in Term 2. Please deposit donations to the school bank account. BSB 083 347, Account number 657743482. Please state the reference of Little Hearts with your donation. Donations will be accepted until Thursday 24 March. Thank you, Hamish Fanning

World’s Greatest Shave I have had my hair dyed as part of The World’s Greatest Shave. I aimed to raise $400. Currently I am at $1722. Although my journey for Pa is over I hope this money raised can go towards helping other people’s loved ones who may have had cancer. Thank you to Ms Boyd, Miss Marianne, Suzanne at Utopia Hairdressing for colouring my hair and Wallington Equestrian Centre, who donated the Raffle Voucher. Thank you also to Mary and Lucy Davies for helping with selling raffle tickets. Everyone has been amazing, thank you. Eliza Ansell

NEW HARD COURT Mr Rayson organised a great introduction to the new hard

court area for these Year 3/4 students.

FESTIVAL of the SEA

Last Saturday night, 38 of our Year 5/6 students performed "Puppets After Dark" at the annual Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea. The 7 shadow puppet plays, created by the students, delivered special messages to the audience about caring for each other and the environment. We are proud to say the event was a huge success, and we are very grateful to the many parents, grandparents, siblings and friends that came to support the students. The word from the Festival committee is that it was 'a highlight of the festival'. Well done to all. Helen Stephensen & Trish French

PEER SUPPORT REFLECTIONS Ealier this term Year 6 students facilitated Peer Support Sessions for students in other year levels. Nick and Alyssa provide some reflections from these sessions: Nick says: “I would rate myself a 7/10 because I am helpful and a good leader, but I can let people do what they want.” Alyssa says: “The thing that made me successful was my organisation. If I hadn’t had enough time to plan my sessions they would be a disaster.” Nick says: “My challenges were rememnbering everyone’s names and getting them to do what they are told.” Alyssa says: “My challenges were getting kid’s attention and being organised.” Nick says: “My favorite things were origani, name tags and games. Alyssa says: “My favorite things were being in charge, being a role model and seeing smiles on kids faces.”

CLASS NEWS GREEN HUB Parent Helpers in Green Hub A huge thank you to all the parents who have been able to assist with Star Learning and PMP this term. We would still love more helpers next term for our Star Learning Sessions on Wednesday mornings from 9-11 and after recess, from 11:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you are available, please fill in the helper timetable in the Green Hub foyer. Please remember that a Working with Children Check is required. Buddies The Preps will prepare a card and small gift for their buddies this week. Please do not send extra eggs for your child's buddy. Assembly The Preps are learning to read and write but most importantly work out Miss Alison's pictures. We shared this concept map at Assembly last week. It summarizes many of the fantastic chicken facts we shared during talk time this term. A big thank you to Arthur, Sibella and Willem who shared their knowledge with the rest of the school. The Preps have been busy learning how chickens grow, chicken facts, about new life, numbers, letters, art and about how school works this term. There have been tired eyes after lunch, “what else can I learn” faces and “I just need a rest” emotions. Term one has flown by and so much learning has taken place. We are looking forward to exploring, discovering and learning even more in Term two. Alison, Nicole, Kylene, Judi

RED HUB Year 1/2 Holy Week Activities Each day of this week, Red Hub will be having a group prayer time, reflecting upon the 4 days of Holy Week. In order to have the students identify with the sharing of a meal together on Holy Thursday, and to celebrate our term together, we will be sharing some red cordial and hot chips at a shared lunch on Thursday. Children will still need to bring their own lunches as they will not be receiving a meal, it is purely just a gesture of a special meal together on Holy Thursday. Wishing you all a happy and safe Easter holiday! Red Hub Rap, performed at last Friday’s assembly

Red Hub’s cool, it’s the place to be!

We’ve got a great new space you see. There’s 125 kids in Year 1 and 2, We have 5 classes for this crew. Star Learning time in the Hub is fun, Because there’s plenty of room for everyone. We’ve been learning about number and place value too, So now we’re 28 or are we 82? We’ve been writing reports about animals that rock, Like bears and, dingoes and even the croc! For Inquiry we’re learning all about our life.

Also, each night we will present a $10,000 cheque to a local cancer research, support or prevention project that directly helps that community and region.
